  • MARJAAVAAN REVIEW :-

Those 80s and 90s films which had a lot of action and mass elements are still our favourites but as the time passed filmmaking style and audience's taste changed. Director Milap Zaveri who is obsessed and inspired by those kind of films have tried to bring those 90s mass mania into his films several times. He debuted with Satyamev Jayate which was heavily inspired by those 90s action films and wasn't much liked by critics but audience made it commercially successful film. He came up with the same fashion in Marjaavaan again but this time he went down and almost lost everything. Marjaavaan could have been a Blockbuster watch 20 years ago but in Today's time this might lack acceptance.

Film has typical storyline where you meet the main character of the film Raghu (Siddharth Malhotra) who falls in love with a Kashmiri Girl Zoya (Tara Sutaria). Raghu was an orphan child and a local goon named Appa (Nassir) brought him up whose dwarf son Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh) always feel jealous because Raghu is more close to his father than him. There is one more interesting character called Aarzoo played by Rakul Preet who is a Bar dancer and she is crazy for Raghu. After some incidents Vishnu and Appa forces Raghu to kill Zoya. Now why did Raghu kill Zoya? How did he take his revenge? Find out all the answers in the film.

Sidharth Malhotra Raghu got lot of action to do but nothing much as an actor. Ritesh Deshmukh as 3 feet villain Vishnu got less action but more powerful dialogues than Raghu. Siddharth and Riteish were seen together in Ek Villain earlier and both of them failed to match that chemistry in Marjaavaan. Tara Sutaria looks beautiful as hell, if there is any award for looking beautiful in the film then just give it to Tara sutaria. Rakul Preet's role was told to an extended cameo but it doesn't seem like that, she has similar kind of and important role compared to Tara Sutaria. Rest of the cast includes Shad Randhawa, Ravi Kishan, Uday Nene, Varinder Singh Ghuman in minimal roles.

Music of the film is top notch, perhaps one of the best music album of the year. 'Tum Hi Aana' is magical and reviberate in your ears even after coming back home. 'Pyar Do' is pacy, catchy and Nora Fatehi looks super hot in the song while other songs are average. Screenplay is one of the weakest point of Marjaavaan because it lacks the link between two scenes, it lacks logic, it lacks engagement too. Action scenes are presented in old style hence you feel it predictable and irritating. Dialogues are massy but again same retro touch make them look dull. Director Milap Zaveri gives Marjaavaan total 80s treatment which is unacceptable in 2019. Satyamev Jayate at least had today's story, relatable theme and character but Marjavaan doesn't have any of them.

Overall, Marjaavaan is outdated mass mania or should i say mess mania? Because except music, each and every thing is messed up in the film. A good cast is spoiled by faltered screenplay and disaster direction. If someone asks me- What is the height of crap filmmaking? Then my answer would be Marjaavaan. Easily one of the best film of the year. If you can tolerate 80s cinema in 2019 then Marjaavaan is your stuff, you can head towards theatre otherwise prefer any of your favourite 80s film on Mobile or TV.

    RATING- 3/10*
  • I definitely likes the performances of the film, Siddharth is good and convincing but the real performer was Riteish Deshmukh. Otherwise everything fell flat on my face. Not a single entry of the characters is without any poetry or cringy dialogue. Felt like writers are still living in the 90's. Numerous potholes, okayish songs, and 2 and half hour running time are unbearable.

Badla nahi intekaam lunga, 😂😂😂 Funny dialogue for funny audience. Give money to the poor instead of wathing this crap😡
  • It's 2019 and Bollywood is still struck in the 1980s. The story is quite predictable and boring , the film should have been edited to reduce the duration . Dialogues feel like a bhojpuri movie is being screened , ritesh's acting was good . Overall the film is a headache and waste of time . The director and writer should be jailed for making such a film , better watch Bala!
  • Totally shit, no thrill just full of cringe. bollywood again proved they are till out lf mind .
  • I hate myself for watching this mess. I'm shocked at how bad this crap is. I have seen horrible Hindi movies but this one tops the list.

  • Wooden acting from lead actress.well one thing is true if u come from rich family everything is up to date but talent is equal to zero . Lead actor had given there best but the storyline is so bad I walked out 30 minutes into this movie well if u a fan of nepotism this is for u

Some people are saying film is awesome and romantic. But from my point of view . It is more likely to be comedy.. There low level dialogues make you laugh. Characters dont talk with each other they just play dialogue - dialogue 🤣 . If you watch south indian movies... You must know what is going to be next after every scene.

  • I love this movie! I'm addicted to Indian movies. Someone recommended Bollywood movies and I got hooked. I start choosing which Indian movie to watch by its music and ratings. I'm glad I didn't go by ratings because I would not have watched this. I loved the song "Tum Hi Aana" on YouTube, so I researched the movie. I didn't know until I read some reviews that this was the sequel to "Ek Villain" which I loved. That tipped the scales paired with its beautiful music to entice me to watch this movie. I have taught myself enough Hindi to correct one big translation mistake. The English subtitles were translated to say "I am floored" which has several English definitions but the use of "I am floored" is QUITE different than what the producers of this movie wanted to portray. Saying "I am floored" at least in American English means "I am astonished" or "I am shocked". I had to research the word "marjaavan" to really understand its true meaning. Once I understood, the use of the word "marjaavaan", that word tied in beautifully to its theme song. Really, India tops Hollywood with her beautiful music! Some things I like in movies besides beautiful music and dancing: the movie flows quickly where I am not checking the time, the ability the movie has to provoke my emotions, the insight into the different religions in India, and good acting. This movie met my criteria. If I had not watched the movie "Barfi", I would not have understood the reference to that. I did not like the use of "Barfi". Some of the insight into following this movie well involved my small knowledge of Hindi and the lords in Hinduism along with the dedication of Muslims to Allah. Some negatives: there were errors in the translation which means English only reading viewers missed some of the content and there is much fake action if you like realism in a movie. Overall, this movie did very well compared to the disappointment of many sequels. It evoked lasting emotions. I will not forget this movie.

I guess i understand the biased reviews.. and the hatred shown towards the film.. because of muslims shown in a good light and the mention of oppression in kashmir.. and the main Antagonist a hindu.. and the hero a hindu who has a soft spot for muslims.. anyway good film great acting.. but most of all what a soundrack! Even it may feel a little to other bollywood movies... but theres nothing different there.. master copycats ;)
  • This is most stupid decision from producer and makers to invest money on old movie plot like this. And as usual yet again Bollywood as shown Hindu faith and its culture in very bad way.

    #FinalVerdict

Marjaavaan fails as a film. The only silver lining is the presence of A-list stars & of course, the hype surrounding the film, which might attract footfalls in mass-friendly circuits initially. Hugely disappointing!

The fight between the virtuous & wicked has been the staple diet of several hindi movies since eons. Marjaavaan is a classic case of an exhausting formulaic movie where the protagonist delivers thunderous dialogue & bashes up scoundrels like we swat flies.

I don't even wish to forewarn you about the essence of Marjaavaan, since, I presume, most of you must've guessed it by now thanks to its high octane promos. Unfortunately, it relies on the tried-tested-trusted and done to death recipe from commencement to conclusion. Right from the styling to the hero-villain conflict to death-defying action (Amin Khatib) to fiery dialogue (Milap Milan Zaveri) delivered in high decibels to the love track and the heroism, every single thing of Marjaavaan is reminiscent of the Bollywood of the 1980s. Writer/Director Milap Milan Zaveris sole intent is to provide entertainment to those who relish masala fares. But be forewarned, even if you have an appetite for the masala movies of yore, chances are you will feel suffocated by the on-screen goings-on.

The biggest problem with Marjaavaan is that the premise is archaic & the director (Milap Milan Zaveri) relies too heavily on some skillfully-filmed action sequences & dialogue-baazi to take the story forward. In fact, even the constituents like romance & comedy look forced. Milap Milan Zaveri garnishes the film with features that the masses take pleasure in. The conflict between good & evil is riveting and so is the rapid pacing (editor: Maahir Zaveri) but not with much novelty on platter. The music (Tanishk Bagchi, Meet Bros and Payal Dev) is a mixed bag. Sanjoy Chowdhury's background score is loud, which adds to the massy element.

Marjaavaan is the typical good versus bad saga loaded with every possible ingredient that makes masala films tick. But what unfolds on screen is so routine & monotonous. In massy entertainers, there has to be a hook to keep the viewer's attention arrested. Director Milap Milan Zaveri does nothing, absolutely nothing out of the box or path-breaking in the current scenario to grab your attention, which is why Marjaavaan fails as a film. Action, one of the high points, is slick and cater more to the desi audiences. Milap Milan Zaveri's dialogue have always been mass-friendly and the lines in Marjaavaan are a riot at times. The dialogue will be greeted with whistles and applause from fans of desi masala movies, especially those delivered by Sidharth Malhotra.

Sidharth Malhotra is absolutely at home in this out-to-please-the-junta character avatar. It's the kind of role that the fans take to instantly and he plays to the gallery. Riteish Deshmukh is exemplary. He carries off the unpretentious, sinister streak with brilliance. Tara Sutaria looks dew-fresh & manages to add so much to every sequence she features in. Post Student Of The Year 2, her performance in Marjaavaan is sure to multiply her fan-following. Rakul Preet Singh looks appealing but doesn't get much to do. Shaad Randhawa is top notch. Ravi Kishan is okay. Nassar leaves a mark. Suhasini Mulay is passable. Nora Fatehi is sizzling as always.

All said and done, unless you're a die hard fan of Sidharth Malhotra and you like Tara Sutaria, or your love is literally blind, then maybe you might actually like Marjaavaan. I did not. Once the initial euphoria settles down, it'll be difficult for the film to sustain. It's a tedious watch! Fizzer!

Orphan Hero. Right hand of Water mafia. Mafia's son jealous of hero for not getting attention of father. Prostitute, who loves hero but he loves mute girl. A cop to clean city from crime. And masala movie ready. Over acting, heavy dialogues, dhishum dhishum. Also Mithun, Mandakini, Suresh Oberoi, Kadar Khan, Meenakshi Sheshadri will come to your mind relating all the characters. If you are fan of 80s masala flicks then prefer to watch that to feel nostalgic.

    This one completely avoidable.

Had to watch it with extreme fortitude and patience. These movies only belong in the graveyard. Horrible acting, screenplay and sound design with lost direction with cringe to the max. The movie fails in almost every scene.
  • Poor story, Background musics are copied from serials and south Indian movies. Its disgusting. All serious dialogues are very funny. And shaming of Hindu culture is not tolerating. This movie doesn't deserve a 1star also.
  • There is no option like '0' or 'Dislike' and that's why 'single star' for it. Actually it's a big zero. So stupid this movie is and I really don't understand the 'funda' of making such films. At this age of Amazon, Netflix etc. wherein damn powerful contents are being released day-in-&-out to mesmerize the audience and these idiots are presenting films like this. Its a shame for Bollywood. Stop making such films to waste our time and money you idiots!!
  • In recent day Bollywood was giving some good movies but can it continues. Very bad acting with very worst dialogue delivery. Ritesh Deshmukh has given some quality performance but low quality dialogue made him funny too. And here funny is not in positive way. So if u want ur health to be good don't go to watch or ready to get severe headache.
  • The only reviews that matter are audience reviews not critic's since they are biased and paid but one thing I can say for sure if you pay a Critic more than the movie's budget even he/she won't be able to give 5+ out of 10.

I had to watch it even after the pathetic trailer because of my half brained girlfriend and it was a total pain in the a**. (What's more concerning is my girlfriend liked the movie) Not only Useless cliche secular dialogues spoiled the movie but also Physics defying actions where gravity doesn't exists and the ground is more like a trampoline.

(How to spot brain deads? They gave this movie 10/10 and just writing "Paisa vasool Paisa Vasool"
  • This movie was suppossed to be romantic action movie . But this movie follows the path of 80s and south indian action movies. Actions defies all the laws of physics. Loud and over the dialogues make this movie unintentionally funny. Having said all this masses from single screen are liking this movie. This means there is still an audience for this type of movie. I would suggest not to waste your time and money on this crap movie.
  • The movie is actually really interesting and it has a good story. People are hating but I don't know why. It has great acting and great characters, you should watch it.
  • Overall if you are a fan of typical 90s' Bollywood type film which contain a hero, a heroine and a villain and atlast the hero wins, then this is definitely your type film. But with the type of films which Bollywood is producing in recent times has upgraded that stereotype feeling.

Starting with the positive part of the film which are very few: 1- Acting of Ritesh Deshmukh. One word GREAT. Actually he tries to make people hate him but the story does not. 2- Character of Tara Sutaria a.k.a Zoya. You will definitely fell for the character but more onscreen time would haveade
  • Cant belive how people can waste so much of money time and resources making such utter nonsense

The movie is garbage.... Not worth the tickets, Bollywood movies were known for there over the up action scenes but was it really necessary to give the mc super human strength.. Illogical with poor romance...the movie is only good for its songs and would like to compliment on ritesh deshmukh who was always a brilliant actor thou his acting wasnt able make the movie any less disappointing. Came to watch this thinking it will be anything like ek villain but it was definitely not! Expect for ritesh deshmukh being the bad guy which was the only gud thing about the movie.. Finally concluding it wid a 1 star rating for its songs and ritesh...
