I honestly can't say this is the worst movie ever made, but mostly that's because I haven't seen every movie ever made. The plot has more holes than a pair of fishnets and every single person acts like they're being made to do it at gunpoint. Poor wasshername, who had some sort of career before Secret Obsession, hoppity hops from trope to trope as the Woman with Amnesia. The slow reveal includes a Sad Cop who is battling his way to redemption, a Nice Nurse who must be making a billion dollars a year because she seems to be the only person ever working at the hospital (although she also finds time to conveniently be in a car park for an accidental path-crossing) and a Mysterious Tattooed Guy who.... actually I have no idea what he was doing or why. Bad Husband slowly reveals his badness through general creepiness, the threat of sexual violence and then by being a total murderer. Gorgeous wood house in the woods where all the action happens is ironically less wooden than all the acting. (One of my fave bits is where hubby boasts that there's no shortage of wood for the fire, whilst gazing into the flames of a gas fireplace). Watch this with your friends and take a shot whenever something stupid or inexplicable happens. You'll be buckled by the end of the first act and possibly hospitalised by the time the credits role.

I watched it, thinking that there would be something MORE than what the trailer showed... cause the trailer showed a LOT, it basically gave the whole plot away!! I really watched it thinking there was a bigger twist, but alas.. there was none.

    There's things that I I didn't like:
    • Loose Ends: There's a character who was portrayed as evil, identity shrouded in Mystery.. but the movie ended without explaining WHO that character was, background story, ANYTHING.
    • Heroine is suddenly a lock-picking master.
    • Heroine, limping and all, can sneak up behind the villain without issues.
    • Dumb detective doesnt call for backup when confronting the Villain, despite knowing what he is heading into.
    • No twist, no nothing. It is a story you would expect from start to finish.
    • [Spoiler[ The Villain's action during the start of the movie was questionable.. Why was he super confident in claiming he was the husband when he got to the hospital, when he didnt know yet that the girl lost her memory? Had she not lost her memory, he would have been caught in the hospital right there and then. Thats just.. weird.

    The good points:
    • It kept me watching throughout the entire movie.. maybe because I was waiting for a twist that didnt come, but it still kept me watching.

    1. What happened to the guy that came to the hospital and got killed and how was he connected?

    2. Why didnt she go down the stairs on her bump?

    3. Why did they tell us the detective was mourning his daughter?

    4. How did no one go and check om her dead parents in three months?

    5. How did her phone stil had a battery after three months? (Also where can i get this phone?) 6. Why did her husband look like he just died when he was in there for months (when her parents did decompose)?

    7. How is the entire hospital staff stupid?

    8. Why would she keep her ring on the finger during surgery?

    9. Why was his password Jennifer Allen? (Thats so dumb) 10. Why do did they have such a small bed in such a big house?
  • The stairs were the best plot decide in the entire movie.

Most of the reviewers have already addressed what's wrong with this movie (basically everything): terribly lazy plot, bad acting, gaping plot holes. I'll just point out that the detective finding out what Jennifer's maiden name was thanks to her tattoo was probably the stupidest thing I've seen in a long, long time. And that's coming from someone who watches crappy movies as a hobby.
  • I wish they showed more of the bathrooms. Wanna see how they decorated it.
  • It was my night to pick the movie, and 'Secret Obsession' popped up at the top of my Netflix account, so I thought rather than spending an hour sifting through the choices, I'd take Netflix's recommendation.

Throughout the movie my husband made several comments about how unrealistic the plot was, and I agreed, but for some reason we sat through it, thinking it would get better...

As the movie ended, my husband left the room to make a phone call. I didn't think much of it, but he was gone for quite some time. When he returned 30 minutes later, he was brandishing divorce papers he had printed out himself on our new hp printer. I didn't even know a person could procure divorce papers so quickly! I begged and pleaded with him to forgive me, but he said he couldn't be with anyone who would hurt him like that. A part of me knows that it's the truth. He deserves better. We all do.

Mike Vogel can kidnap me whenever he wants!

And I'm sure the protagonist thought the same, because it is the only explanation for running into the house, whenever she was able to break free, among other things...
  • Ok so the plot and premise isn't really anything new - however the film really does it's hardest to make you interested in the film. The first act of the film is a little confusing. I almost stopped watching after first 10 minutes or so - however i am glad I stuck with it. Brenda Song does really well and is the stand out for me - great job at breaking her 'Suite Life' label. Good Acting. It could've developed the detectives character a bit better. It won't thrill you to bits, but i found it a pleasant surprise.
  • I had a restlessness night and this movie managed to help me take a nap. Went straight to sleep with absolutely no concern for Jennifer.
  • Warning: Spoilers
We have A LOT of questions. Who is the "concerned friend" in the leather jacket that got murdered? Why did Jennifer put sticky tape around her ankle? Where is the detective's daughter? Why did she look for sticky tape and not a knife? Why did her fake husband feel the need to wear glasses since she couldnt remember anything? Did they ever find the real husband in the boot of the car? For a man that has a lot of locks on things, why did fake husband not lock the freezer with detective Morzel Freeshington (a mix of Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington....you're welcome) in it? Why didn't they use the excellent balcony at the top of the stairs to throw someone through it? Why did she not use the walking stick, which was dramatically zoomed in on, as a weapon? Did the neighbour of the leather jacket wearing concerned friend get back to sleep with that car alarm going? Why did fake husband light a random candle after tying Jennifer up with flammable material? Did the blonde doctor ever go home or get a break, concerns about illegal working practices? Why did fake husband not use at least a symbol, a capital letter and at least one number in his password, which was guessed by a woman with actual brain damage? Why was Jen so confused at her maiden name being Jennifer Allen, when her kidnapper took her actual husbands name?

If you have lots of wine, this film is genuinely funny. If you don't have lots of wine, get some!
  • Not sure why this is getting such bad reviews. Yes there might be some silly moments where you shout at the TV but all these kind of movies are like that. My wife and I sat and enjoyed this movie and so might you, give it a try
  • Couldn't stop thinking that this was an Allstate commercial. Overall movie was predictable and hilarious! Russell's photoshopping skills gave him away.
  • Best thing about this movie is the reviews aahh. I just watched and thought how could you do this to me Netflix😂😂😂If you want to feel better after watching read the reviews

I was in trouble in the opening scenes when she couldn't get her car started, but the windshield wipers were working.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Before I even started watching the movie- I knew it was going to be predictable. That's not what bothered me. I gave it a 2 because it had some mildly entertaining scenes- but no matter how hard I tried- I couldn't stop finding holes everywhere. The opening scene caught my attention, so I gave it a chance- but the longer I watched it- the more ridiculous it got. To be honest, I finished the movie just to see how many mistakes or holes I noticed.

Who was the guy bringing flowers? Why did he have to die? Why would the detective even be called in for a car accident with witnesses and reports? Why was the exact scene on the security tape so easy to find? Why did the detective mention that he intended on giving her the note back at the hospital when he clearly found the note long after she was discharged? How could a a husband and a wife die and no one think to check in on them? They didn't live miles away- they had neighbors! And the new husband- no family at all? No one is concerned that everyone in this girls life just goes missing?

So many careless mistakes just made this movie almost comical. It's surprising that anyone found this better than just okay.
  • Do not waste your time. Netflix seems to be giving everyone money to make movies without caring about the finished product. Bad plot + bad screenplay + bad acting = bad movie.

There is literally nothing redeeming about this film. Maybe the tree covered mountain landscape. That's all.
  • Warning: Spoilers
This is in effect a remake of Misery, but we are the ones being held captive. One desires to continue watching this like a train-wreck you just can't look away from. Your soul will slowly die. I would prefer death by corrosion via the suspiciously large bag of lye he bought at the hardware store to having to watch this movie ever again.
  • This isn't the best movie ever, but defineptly not terrible. If you're someone who is into lifetime suspense movies then you'll enjoy this. A bit predictable but still enjoyable.
  • Despite the trailer, this is a very clever movie about the afterlife, where President Palmer is stuck in hell after being killed and has to spend eternity as a lame detective. He meets London Tipton, who isn't rich anymore, and they... oh. My husband said that's not the plot. I guess it was just a really bad movie. Pity.
  • I don't get it. The guy provided a beautiful home for his "wife". Walkout kitchen, hardwood floors, treed lot. What's not to like? Oh and did she even consider all the work he put into her rehab? Cooking meals? What about his photoshop skills? You think a well rounded man like that comes along every day? Nah, no appreciation for him whatsoever.

A guy can't catch a break these days.
  • This movie is not that bad. Yes, the acting isn't great and it was predictable, but it was still a pretty good movie. It kept me entertained the whole way through. Don't listen to these "one star ratings".
  • It's so bad that I felt disrespected by Netflix. Now they're making any generic movie to convince users that's worth it paying a monthly subscription. I should've been paid to spend my time watching this
