In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he works to adapt a fantasy novel into a video game.
In the beginning of the movie a character named Colin Ritman programs what appears to be ZX Spectrum home computer. This is possibly an homage to legendary Spectrum game programmer Jon Ritman.

During one version of the TV spot reviewing the Bandersnatch game, the interviewer asks, "Yea or nay," but the captioning misspells it: "yay" (a commonly confused homophone of "yea").
