I think this was the perfect visual interpretation of the song. I think the casting was great especially Sadie who really impressed me. She told the whole story with her facial expressions.

The colours were great too. They all have a warm, autumn feel, which suits the whole song and even the album.

Seeing this story play out was just as painful as the song and I think they compliment each other well!

Impressive performances by Sink and O' Brien. The film certainly captures the tone and aesthetic that the song does such an excellent job of conveying - rust colored autumn leaves, scarves, fall time whirlwind romance.

However (and I say this as a long - time Swift fan), the film itself just falls short of excellent because it doesn't quite feel like a short film; it honestly feels more like a very long music video, with the song playing in the background. In that way, the direction could have been better. TS did a good job, considering she's a musician, and doesn't direct videos professionally, but I believe she should have hired someone else to handle that aspect of it.

How could it have been better, in my mind? Cut the song. We already know the film is a tribute to 'All Too Well.'. This is not a music video. This is a short film. Show more sequences between the two main characters. Show scenes of them in different stages of the relationship, like the kitchen fight scene.

It did leave a lovely lasting impression, and the cinematography is stunning. Great, but it could have been better.
  • This is my favorite song ever, I can't believe we get to see this beautiful short film alongside it. The acting was amazing, Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien really gave they all for this performances. The cinematography was gorgeous, and created an amazing atmosphere that went great with the song.

Taylor Swift's direction doesn't disappoint, she really loves this piece of work and you can tell. Let's hope that she will continue to direct, she's only given us a little piece of what she can do.

Game changing music video in the same league as Thriller or any other groundbreaking short film music film. Taylor Swift can add writing and directing to her list of talents. She demonstrates more than enough here to suggest that she absolutely has the chops. Also it's shot on 35mm. A woman after my own heart.

"Time won't fly, it's like I'm paralyzed by it. I'd like to be my old self again but I'm still trying to find it." No words! Amazing visual and story. Jake G, I'm sorry for you man. Tough week, huh?
  • Dylan and Sadie's chemistry is everything, and once again, Taylor Swift has proved (all too well) that there is absolutely nothing she cannot do. Stream Red (Taylor's Version)!

Once again, Taylor Swift proves she can do anything; cinematographicaly speaking, this is sooo well directed; acting wise, Sadie and Dylan portray the emotion absolutely perfect and so raw. It's incredible the way u can connect to this film. The 35mm format gives it the "home video" touch that makes the film even more relatable.

    Spectacular, a must watch!

This short features not just the most mature song Taylor Swift has done in a while, but a roller coster of emotions masterfully done through 10 minutes. The performances are phenomenal, the lines are so heartbreaking because it feels too real and Swift direction showcases a true talent behind the camera. A masterpiece!

Cool story line I guess, never really cared for Jake Gyllenhaal or whatever, loved Brokeback Mountain tho still a fave, great actor can't deny that.

My question is tho bestie Taylor, Where's your 10 minute short film about how you cheated on and used Tom Hiddleston?

    I'll be waiting :)

    Good
"All Too Well: The Short Film"! It's a creative visual interpretation of Taylor Swift's iconic song. The film beautifully captures the emotions and story conveyed in the song, taking us on a journey of heartbreak and nostalgia. The cinematography and direction bring the lyrics to life, adding depth and intensity to the narrative. The acting performances are compelling, immersing us in the raw emotions of the characters. Overall, "All Too Well: The Short Film" is a powerful companion piece to the song, offering a visual experience that enhances the storytelling.

As a short film its a good one, and I recommend it.

Taylor swift is one of the most talented people in her generation.

About the film, Sadie captured Taylors feelings and emotions and makes its seems like im watching Taylor experience of the events.

Taylor please direct more films and i personally would love to see more short films for other songs being re-recorded.

I loved the song when it came out, I wished it had a video, this was really good , I could have done without the political messaging abut the patriarchy, but other than that video matched the song perfectly.

Think was very well cast. Sadie was solid but I wish she had been more consistent in her lipstick game, varied from none to perfect, I much preferred the perfect to none. The sets were exactly as I would have imagined, they could have been better with the lighting.

I have seen it 3 times and think it is her best video by some margin. I wish she would go back to this style of music or country.

    Good!
Let me start off by saying I really love this song and I'm a big fan of Taylor! Taylor impressively made a huge supportive fanbase that loves everything she puts out. She got there through hard times and an incredible amount of commitment. She shows she doesn't want to stop learning and I love that!

Risk there is that so many people view every single project of hers as higher quality than it sometimes is, and in my opinion this is one of them. Seen a lot of fans even say it's an Oscar-worthy short film and I definitely wouldn't take it that far. I find this film good, but not impressive.

First of all, I'm a bit confused about calling it a short film. To me it seems like an extended music video. If we're really talking about a short film, I expected a little more.

Just like the album Red (Taylor's Version) and its aesthetics and lyrics, the short film for All Too Well (10 Minute, Taylor's Version) completes the autumnal vibes of this era by choosing autumnal colours, clothing and settings. I personally also really like the old fashioned frame that was used.

The storyline in the film reflects the one in the lyrics, which is dramatic enough as it is (in a good way) - but there is no added element to it, which makes the outcome something you'd expect by reading the lyrics. Good enough for a music video but not good enough for a film. For a film, it seems like a pretty standard story (for me this isn't the type of story in film that stays with me).

Sadie and Dylan's performances, often praised by Taylor, are beautifully acted and to me they deserve all the praise they get. I find especially the kitchen scene to be an impressive accomplishment for improvised acting. I think both of them did an amazing job at translating the lyrics into visual art. But that stops at Sadie and Dylan's performance. The dining table scene felt very unnatural and as if there was a lack of chemistry. I didn't believe those people were even friends with Dylan's character. Thankfully, the scene wasn't long. There's also something about the very last scene with Taylor in it that just didn't click with me. It almost felt like a "Hey, I directed it so that would be a fun idea!" sort of thing rather than actually part of the film. Also, the concept of writing a (poetry) book over a break up seemed to be a bit over the top.

So, there were definitely some cracks here and there. It's a good, cozy and creative way to accompany the impressively written, sung and produced ten minute version of Taylor's All Too Well.

MY SANITY WENT AWAY LIKE THE CRUMPLED UP PIECE OF PAPER LYING ON THE FLOOR. The 35mm touch. The storyline. This short leg film was just everything I needed and hopped from an ATW video. Also Sadie and Dylan casting chef kiss.

This short film hit me hardest then the whole album. It was so hard to watch it knowing Taylor went through all of this. Sadie and Dylan did an amazing job. This is why Taylor is so loved by her fans❤❤❤❤
  • From the story telling to the lighting used in this short film, Taylor was able to portray so much emotion. Not to mention, the casting is perfectly done. From the age difference to the depth (or lack of depth) in each character, I felt like I was seeing that relationship play out as it did almost a decade ago. I expected this level of attention and care from Taylor, though! She's proved her brilliance, especially in the past two years! So proud to be a Taylor Swift fan at this moment.
  • It's just so brilliant! I am not a Swiftie, but I can't deny Taylor Swift is very talented. I think if I didn't see this short movie, then I wouldn't fall in love with the song. It's literally a long song, a 10-minute song, but I still love every bit of it without looking bored or constant.

Sadie Sink and Dylan O Brien are so outstanding there. They are able to deliver the emotion and meaning behind Taylor's song in a short movie. I really feel withdrawn into their emotions, I can feel the love, anger, sadness, etc. I never experience the same thing, but I can feel how heartbroken she was. Well the emotion in this song is very strong. Brilliant!
  • Romance, turbulence, nostalgia, rising from the dust. The story of one relationship in less than 15 minutes; the story of all too many relationships. Based on a true story.
  • The song in itself is beautiful, Taylor Swift managed to make it a dreamy experience by adding such picturesque scenery and such talented actors. I could totally see through Sadie what all Taylor went through, during this breakup.

As a film student, I think this short film is absolutely incredibly well done. The acting is phenomenal and real, props to Taylor for directing the actors all too well. Also the storytelling is perfect and the shots are just amazing.

Whoops left the review on the wrong thing Anyways I never write reviews on imdb due to the toxic nature but this is garbage and I'll be the first to say it, not cuz i support anything that is presented but this is basically an overlong style over substance music video. I recon a lot of stans will get mad but I don't care, At least it's not the worst thing to come out of this year.
  • nanbelcher13 November 2021
Although this is a short film it told the whole story. Emotional expression of love. I thought everyone can relate to the story if you have loved and lost it. Taylor Swift's songs are a story; and this was acted out beautifully.

    Okay.
That one scene where they swear 13 times. I like that.

That thing made me cry I'm sorry. I was surprised, flabbergasted, go smacked and whatnot.

The story. I don't like the story, it's really depressing. I mean it's told good, but inde terrible for that poor little girl.

I could write an essay about how every detail makes this work a masterpiece, but all I have to say is that it is absolutely beautiful. The acting, the poetry, the transitions, the direction... I loved it. You dont have to be a Taylor Swift fan to admit that she is indeed one of the rarest artists out there.
  • "All Too Well" is a beautiful shortfilm made by Taylor Swift. And the lead cast SADIE SINK and Dylan O'Brien are OUTSTANDING.

A phenomenal performance has been delivered from Sadie Sink.
