Art imitating life, in the case of Psych crime solver Carlton Lassiter, has profoundly moved series vet Timothy Omundson.
Omundson suffered a major stroke in April 2017, just as production on the original Psych: The Movie was getting underway; as such, Lassiter only appears via a brief FaceTime call with Juliet. In 2020, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, as its title suggested, brought Omundson back to a greater degree, pinning the central mystery on the shooting of Lassiter, who then also suffered a stroke from which he started to recover throughout the TV-movie.

In a new trailer, which you can watch below, Shawn and Gus reprise their old bits and catchphrases — knocking on doors and using fake names to question people, working in costume and telling each other to “suck it.”

Tina Fey’s last streaming comedy proved that “females are strong as hell.” Now the prolific TV creator is set to double down on that message with the lead casting for her new Peacock sitcom.
Peacock revealed today that musician Sara Bareilles will serve as the lead on Girls5eva, an upcoming comedy from Fey and producing partner Robert Carlock. Girls5eva centers on a one-hit-wonder girls group from the ‘90s called “Girls5eva” When a young rapper samples one of their songs, it launches the group back into the national spotlight and gives them a chance at pop stardom once again. Of course, a show about a fake psychic detective named Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best friend Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill) was destined to be hilarious. In fact, one of the best things about Psych is that in order to get pretty much anywhere in an investigation, Shawn usually gives Gus a ridiculous nickname to fit the situation. Over eight seasons and two movies, Shawn has given Gus around 104 nicknames, give or take. While he mostly goes along with them, every now and again, he is given veto power, which he heavily invokes during Psych 2: Lassie Come Home. We picked some of our favorites below - and no, we didn't rank them, it was just too hard!

Early on in the Psych pilot, Shawn Spencer’s (James Roday Rodriguez) ludicrous plot to impersonate a psychic in order to solve crime suddenly takes on grave stakes: Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) informs him that if he’s lying, he’ll be prosecuted for hindering a police investigation. Just like that, he’s locked into his lie, and has no choice but to let it snowball—into a private eye business with his best friend Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), but also into a lucrative consultancy gig for the Santa Barbara Police Department that, psychic antics be damned, legitimately saves lives.
But while it’s the Chief who put the fear of God into Shawn, the true threat to his secret was always one Carlton Jebediah Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). In the early seasons, Lassiter was the perfect foil: a by-the-book detective obsessed with proper procedure and with hypermasculinity, who had patience...

This story contains mild spoilers for Psych 2: Lassie Come Home. When Psych ended its run on USA in 2014, it didn't really "end." Creator Steve Franks was already talking about the many movies he planned to make back then, and there was never a sense that the Psych office had closed for good, even as Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez), Gus (Dulé Hill), and Juliet (Maggie Lawson) followed Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) to San Francisco while Detective Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) stayed behind in Santa Barbara. There was always talk of continuing the show, and for the fans, it felt like a promise. A when, not an if. Finally, Psych: The Movie was announced in early 2017, with plans for...

David Schwimmer is bringing a heavy dose of American arrogance across the pond in Peacock’s new UK import Intelligence — but did this goofy workplace comedy earn a full-time gig on your watchlist?
Schwimmer stars as brash Nsa agent Jerry Bernstein, who arrives in the UK to serve as a liaison with the British cyber crime division — a collection of geeky misfits including the eager-to-please Joseph (played by writer/creator Nick Mohammed), former hacker Tuva (Peaky Blinders‘ Gana Bayarsaikhan) and bedraggled cat lady Mary (Sally4Ever‘s Jane Stanness). The following contains spoilers for Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
As fun as 2017’s Psych: The Movie was, its 2020 sequel Psych 2: Lassie Come Home will likely supplant it in Psych-Os’ hearts, because it’s got 500% more Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). But how does it stack up to its predecessor in terms of Psych callbacks and pop culture homages? Using our Spencer powers of observation, we’ve tried to catch every recurring inside joke between Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) and Gus (Dulé Hill), plus all the episodic-specific bits. It’s a feature-length Hitchcock homage, but it’s also the toughest Easter egg hunt of your life. C’mon, son!
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home Easter Eggs and References
The title is a reference to Lassie Come Home, the 1943 Lassie movie about the beloved dog making her way home from Scotland. A German-language remake came out early in 2020.

Peacock marks the last, but not the least, of 2020’s major streaming service debuts. NBCUniversal’s big-money platform launched nationally today and, though it offers a wealth of head-turning content from the conglomerate’s film and television portfolios, as well as a variety of upcoming originals, Peacock has its work cut out for it in an incredibly competitive market.
The problem is that same strength holds true for most of the industry’s streaming services, both new and old, and Peacock’s late launch does it no particular favors. Peacock boasts a wide range of popular titles such as “30 Rock,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Saturday Night Live,” while “The Office” will hit the platform next year. The number of recent headlines about companies paying millions to secure distribution rights to enduringly popular content suggests that Peacock’s exclusive streaming of those aforementioned comedies could be a considerable draw, but...

As NBC’s new streaming platform Peacock Peacock Opens Wide: Here’s What’s Streaming On Its Free And Premium Tiers, the star of its Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, James Roday, is beginning a new journey of his own.
In an interview with TVLine, the actor describes his decision to switch his stage name to his birth surname, becoming James Roday Rodriguez. His given middle name is David, which he has replaced with Roday, given 20-plus years working under that moniker.
Rodriguez says the idea began with conversations he had with his father about their family heritage and what his parents and grandparents went through growing up in Texas.
“It’s a deeply personal decision that I am doing for me,” said Rodriguez. “And I just hope it’s something that can be amplified. I hope we are all having these conversations in our lives. I hope we are all reflecting.

James Roday Rodriguez went by “James Roday” for over 20 years, electing to forego the use of his last name professionally.
But he said the process of reconnecting with his Mexican American heritage prompted him to add his last name to all future credits, starting with Wednesday’s premiere of “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home” on Peacock. In an interview with TVLine, Rodriguez discussed why he’s adding Rodriguez back into his name and the events that led to his decision to drop it in the first place.
“For me, because I’ve always had a bit of a strange relationship with my own heritage, I started talking to my dad in, like, a real way,” he said in the interview.
“It was so edifying, listening to my father talk about what it was like to be a brown person growing up in this country — and in Texas, no less,” he went on.

The wait is almost over, “Psych” fans. Among the many offerings that will be available when NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Peacock, launches nationwide Wednesday is “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” the long-awaited sequel to “Psych: The Movie.”
Now, seeing as it’s been a while since the first “Psych” film debuted on USA Network in December 2017 — and even longer since the detective dramedy series ended its eight season run in 2014 — we’re willing to bet that even the most die-hard fans don’t remember exactly where we left things with Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill). The streaming service field is becoming more fractured, as more and more media companies break from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu in favor of creating their own streaming services. NBCUniversal—the Comcast Corp. division that owns NBC, MSNBC, USA, and the Universal Pictures movie studio—is next up with new streaming service Peacock.
Peacock will feature content from NBC, Bravo, USA Network, Syfy, Oxygen, E!, CNBC, MSNBC, Nbcsn, Golf Channel, Universal Kids, A&e, ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox, History, Nickelodeon, Showtime, Universal Pictures, DreamWorks, Focus Features, Illumination, ViacomCBS, Paramount, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., and Blumhouse.
Here’s what we know:
Peacock Release Date
Peacock was made available to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 platform subscribers on April 15, 2020. The service will officially roll out to the rest of the country on July 15, 2020. NBCUniversal has plans for an international release of the service but no timeframe has been announced yet.

Yes, we are inundated with streaming options.
Instead of the promise of all of our content being easier to navigate, not to mention less expensive, there is more to keep track of than ever before.
NBCUniversal's Peacock arrives to the public on Wednesday, July 15. Free for all with ads, to watch their originals, you'll need one of their premium plans. One has ads, and the other is ad-free.
We know services are always worth the additional cost for the ad-free versions. After all, with all the content available, time is essential.
But is one of the premium tiers worth the extra money?
Upon launch, there will be four scripted originals for adults.
They include Peacock's flagship show, Brave New World, based on the novel by Aldus Huxley, The Capture, a conspiracy thriller from the UK, Intelligence, a comedy from Nick Mohammed starring David Schwimmer, and Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.

Duh-duh. Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh. Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh. Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo. That elaborately recreated and stunningly accurate rendition of the 30 Rock theme song can only mean one thing: 30 Rock is almost back!

It's been six years since USA Network's Psych went off the air, but the friendship between the show's stars James Roday and Dulé Hill is as strong as ever. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell where James and Dulé end and their characters Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster begin. This is evident by their witty banter in nearly ever interview they've done together. Over the years, the actors have formed a strong bond, with Dulé often calling James his "brother" on social media and James being a groomsman at Dulé and Jazmyn Simon's 2018 wedding.
As to why their friendship as Shawn and Gus is so believable, Dulé told The Futon Critic, "we vibe very well off-camera and that helps with the chemistry onscreen, in that we both like to have a good time, crack jokes, and sing songs from the '80s, and that helps us . . . keep things in tune on-screen.

This time, Carlton Lassiter (Tim Omundson) is in trouble, and Shawn (James Roday), Gus (Dule Hill), Juliet (Maggie Lawson), and Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) all do their best to help him, even if it means getting themselves into some serious trouble. The movie is not only about Lassiter, but it also serves as the show's sort of "welcome back" to Timothy Omundson, who suffered a stroke right before filming on the first movie began, meaning the entire first movie...

One of the handful of originals that will launch NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming platform is Psych 2: Lassie Come Home. The second Psych followup movie, reuniting the cast and the creative auspices of the long-running USA Network crime dramedy, had been originally commissioned by USA but was shifted to Peacock. There, it may be be followed by more standalone films.
“The Psych movie we are very excited about; people are buzzing about being able to see it on the service,” Bill McGoldrick, President of Original Content, NBCUniversal Entertainment Networks and Direct-to-Consumer, told Deadline during an interview tied to Peacock’s July 15 launch. “We are going to see how this movie performs but we’ve loved the collaboration, we are going to be in constant conversation with that group, and we are open to talking about more.”

Psych: The Movie, when it was released in 2017, was clearly a love letter for the avid Psych-Os missing fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday), his platonic life partner Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), and the rest of the Santa Barbara Police Department after the series wrapped in 2014. From a David Bowie-loving villain to a #TeamGrimmie T-shirt, it was the best kind of fan service. Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, then, is undoubtedly a love letter from the cast and crew of Psych to one of their own: actor Timothy Omundson and his grouchy yet heroic alter ego, detective Carlton Lassiter, both undergoing recovery for a stroke. Psych 2, which premieres July 15 on Peacock, is a surprisingly poignant example of art imitating life while still ushering a crew of beloved characters through personal and professional life changes.

The final moments of 2017’s Psych: The Movie are literally explosive: Professional fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and partner-in-crime-solving Burton Guster (Dulé Hill) watch their newly-christened San Francisco-based practice go up in laser-sniper-fire from whoever’s hot on the trail of Shawn’s brother-in-law Ewan O’Hara (John Cena). It might have seemed an obvious setup for an eventual second Psych movie, with the titular duo following in the wake of Ewan’s ex-Black-Ops adventures, but instead creator Steve Franks and Roday (who shares a co-writing credit on both movies) went for a quieter and more emotionally resonant angle in their followup.
