  • The Perfect Match is the first Taiwanese drama I finished on Netflix (and finished quickly because it is enjoyable to watch). A love-romance comedy crossing a high-end restaurant chef and a girl selling curry at the night market.

As a foodie myself, I was drawn initially to the food (the Taiwan night market is already unique by itself), but I enjoyed the plot that is executed at a good pace and at the right level of details that goes into ingredients and running of a restaurant. Conflicts within the riches' families do not make much sense to me other than as comedies, but unlike most Japanese dramas that may build multiple arcs but only finishes the main one, The Perfect Match did the few well justice.

Romance dramas are usually filled with beautiful actors and actresses and this is no exception. Lead actor Wu Kang-jen is seasoned and lead actress Ivy Shao was having a break-thru year in her acting (and singing) from her first major role the year before (Back to 1989). You will fall in-love with her by the end of the drama.
  • Great plot, acting, cooking scenes and scenery! Enjoyed this show very much. It is a little on the long side and I found myself skipping flashbacks but it's still good and well worth watching! Also very pleased with the ending, although I wish it could've last longer like more detailed of everyone's happy endings.

I recently started watching Korean, Chinese and Taiwanese series. I really do like the stories and can hardly make myself not wathing the entire thing in one go.

What does bother me are these mothers (specially the one from 'Bap Jal Sajuneun Yeppeun Nuna'. It's sad to see how they use their children, saying they want them to have a good life but probably they just want to show off to the other mothers. About how the kids handle these situations I won't say anything as I don't know if it's exagerated or if this is really still this way.

This series also had some selfish mothers and a selfish father, all of them were just interested in business. Fortunately the kids didn't give in.

Wei Fen Qing She was able to handle all problems but had no sensitivity. She would get jealous, mad, worried and knew she liked him. He created so many opportunities where she couuld have admitted her feelings, not sure if a 27 year old would actually react they way she did. Specially not after they had kissed and he had confessed about 20 times before that he liked her.

I wished after the departure of Ting En that she would have yelled at Shao Wei. Even if at the end it wasn't true, but Ting En told her that he was also a reason for his decision.

What really enoyed me was when at the meeting with the lawyer she asked why Ting En hadn't told or asked her. Well she must admit, he had confessed several times that he liked her. She never reacted normally and she also always asked Shao Wei for help.

The scene with the glass door was intense. Oh did I cry, my heart hurt, it felt so real, great acting.

Huo Ting En Every time he confessed that he liked her and she reacted so brutally, my heart broke for him. To me his acting was so good, it all felt so real. For me it's difficult to believe, that this person does not exist in reality.

When Fen Qing moved in with this family his mum was really rude, I wished he would have stopped that.

I loved the scene downstairs in the lobby, when he told her, that he was jealous.

Meng Saho Wei A good friend to Fen Qing but also root of so many problems. At some point his selfish behavior annoyed me. If he loved her so deeply, he should want her to be happy.

Meng Ru Xi She really made it heart not to cheer for her and hoping for a happy end with Wei Fen Qing. She was just fighting for who she loved, no intrigue, she even helped when she knew that Ting En was really not interested in her.

Peng Xiao Bin That is what I call a real friend. Unconditional loyalty. And I really hoped he would get together with the curry-bread lady.

This is my first review, please excuse if it's not what a review should look like. I did skip the flashbacks, and I didn't like when the music suddenly stopped in a scene and a new song began.

It is difficult to understand certain things which probably has to do with the cultural differences. Therefore I would love to watch such series with a Korean, Chinese or Taiwanese who knows about the life there.

I never was attracted to asian men but these series..... So I watched the whole thing in one go and finished it yesterday. After getting so invested I really have the feeling to know Huo Ting En and have a crush on him (I must be crazy). This also happened with Ye Shuwei from 'I hear you'. I really have to tell myself, that these guys are not real, that they're just acting and that noone is so cute and attentive.

Well I would love to see more of them, it felt so real.

Fen-Qing (Yu-Wei Shao) is smart, very pretty, and heartbreaking. Ting-En (Kang Ren Wu) is smart, handsome, and rational to a fault (i.e. Too rational). The chemistry between the two is really electric and so believable that I found myself thinking about the characters and looking forward to the opportunity to watch the next episode. I think a lot of care went into the character development for this story, and also the importance of family is a major theme that runs throughout. Fen-Qing, because of her humble background, missing father, and inexperience, places family including friends and acquaintances, as a high priority, higher than a romantic relationship. This, plus some labyrinthian family complications, plus Ting-En's rationality, leads to a heartbreaking situation.

In short, I do recommend this series if any of the above strikes a chord, or if you have any interest in the fine details of high cuisine. It is amazing to me that the two lead actors can make their relationship so real without it actually being so. I wish them and also Ting-En and Fen-Qing the best.

Enjoyed the drama The dishes made my day The end was predictable but nice
  • This drama is mainly a romance, but a little bit of several genres was squeezed into it. The plot is quite unrealistic, but the character growth, family bonds, and romance was quite fun to watch.

The show does a good job foreshadowing and hinting at events through the entire show. There's very little guessing involved with the plot; but that ended up building the anticipation when the event you're expecting finally happens. The characters are likeable, so you end up rooting for them to accomplish goals.

The secondary couple was very cute. The romance and kissing scenes are all well done. There is a single INTIMATE scene, which is uncommon in these types of dramas. It was done very well: Despite having no nudity or obscenity, it managed to be very sensual. Both couples looked great together.

There were several episodes dedicated to a backcourt politics "arc", which was extremely funny.

The undeniable charm between the two main characters make this romatic comedy a sweet moment to help you take the hardship of the day.

We all have a past and how we want to handle our past is what would make or break your future relationships.

This cute couple have a heavy past, but together they overcome it and try to go foward not letting it and anyone get in the way. There's everything that a respectful drama needs... great characters, anoying girl that think she can get everything she wants, overbaring mothers and so much more.

And the food looks absolutely delicious. Makes me even want to take up Chinesse cooking.

Ofcorse it wasn't all perfect, there were a few borring moments with the scheaming mother and the jealous shrew that just wouldn't stop. But luckily there was one of the most thrilling and heart-pumping kisses I have ever seen.

All in all this drama was fun and sweet.

    SPOILER ALERT!!

Fen Qing is destroyed by this 4 troubled mother, 1 troubled father, and 1 "not" best friend.

Save her please... Save her soul. And damned those 4 mother, 1 father, and 1 best friend.

Actually on the real life, Fen Qing with the "traumatic" broken heart like this, may dispose her passion of cooking, any cooking. And this will eat more and more her soul.

Ahhh... excuse me, i have a dark soul also... 😅🙏

This series is difficult to rate because it doesn't seem to fit neatly into the rom-com category. Nevertheless, it is enjoyable and well worth watching in its entirety.

Initially the chemistry between the two leads didn't seem that great and it appears Shao Wei is a better fit for Fen Qing, but by the end, both Fen Qing and Ting En have grown into a good match and I was solidly in their corner. The script was well-written, the casting was good and some plot twists were unexpected. Kang Ren Wu did an outstanding job as a Cordon Bleu trained chef and Yu-Wei Shao's character matured beautifully and touchingly as the series progressed. Both were very well done.

I found the inclusion of the slapstick comedy childish, annoying and distracting; however, the choreography and comedic timing were admirable, being both skilled and excellently done. Some of the flashbacks were overly long and I began fast-forwarding through them. The voice-overs added depth to the storyline and I began looking forward to them.

Throughout the series, definitions of family, trust, loyalty, respect, understanding, responsibility to self and others, forgiveness and love are explored and become heavy duty in Episode 18. It seems a heavy load for a rom-com to carry, and some of the exploration seems, by Western standards, overdone and stretches credibility. Some of this may be due to cultural differences. However, this is what gives value to the series and I urge everyone to watch the entire series thoughtfully and looking beyond the romance. Many of the stated points deserve in-depth discussion following viewing of the series. Life is indeed a tangle and love can be difficult.
