La forêt des démons
(2005)

Probably the worst film ever made.
Well, this is easy to say, but this movie has every ingredient for being the worst movie ever. Bad Directing, amateurish actors, atrocious dialog, and for a horror film, no scares, unintentional laughs, lack of story, tension and pace. Worst of all, a nude scene with an ugly fat woman (hope she'll not read this comments though). Filmed with a cheap DV Camera, this picture is so bad you can not imagine. The devil masks however are quiet well done, but the demons are moving so week and slowly that they are hardly considered as a threat. Rent this movie only if you are curious about the "worst movie ever made", of if you know someone who was involved in this production. It was hard to belief that so many persons were involved in making this film, if you see it you may guess it is a work of 2 undergraduate students.

Lundi matin
(2002)

interesting, but way too long
This movie tells the story of factory worker living somewhere in the French countryside. He has a wife and two kids who do not really love him, so one day he goes for a trip to Italy where he meets some buddies and drinks a lot. At the end he is coming back to his village. Thats about it, the story is sometimes interesting to follow as the characters are real, but it is also boring at times. Absolutely no movie for the typical blockbuster audience.

Le boulet
(2002)

Fun action adventure comedy
This movie is better than one thought. Does anybody remember the great 70ies movies with Louis De Funès ? This one is in the same spirit with goofy comic-like characters and a taste of adventure. It is set in France and in Africa. Everybody is funnily over acting and the movie has one of the dumbest (and funniest) endings in recent movie history. Give it a try !

Riders
(2002)

B Movie
This movie has a very dumb plot designed for kids who are still in the "cool thieves who fool the police" thing. The actors are pretty bad and overact, especially the chief of police. Natasha H. was never a great actress and shows once again that she has no talent. Compared to Milla Jovovich, she is a pale figure. Good luck I could see this movie for free, it was dubbed in French and the dialogues were unreal and stupid, but this is certainly because of the bad dubbing (I had no choice). Dont see this in French !! It is terrible.

Snow Day
(2000)

How dumb can a movie ?
This is by far the dumbest movie I have ever seen. Ok, it was aimed to kids, but still I cannot imagine an halfway intelligent kid to find anything funny in this flick. When I saw it I thought it was written by 8-year olds. Stay away if you do not like unfunny comedies.

Vidocq
(2001)

Home Video
The special effects are great, the story interesting. I am bothered however by the quality of the picture. Especially the close-ups look like home video. It looks like they're done with a Sony Handycam. This new technique does not yet replace real film, as it looks mostly ugly. Hope George Lucas does not make too many close-ups, it looks really bad.

Six-Pack
(2000)

Funny moments
I don't know why everyone thinks this one is so bad. It is not worse than "The Bone Collector". It is nicely done, with some unbelievable plot, but fun to watch. The best moment which made us laugh was when the inspector complains about the "american psychos" now imported to France. The film was not too boring as well. Check it out, but do not expect a masterpiece.

Les morsures de l'aube
(2001)

Not bad, not good. Lacks some real teeth
This film has atmosphere, no doubt. But something is missing, I'm not so sure what. Guillaume Canet does not convince as a tough guy who goes from bar to bar. He's got a face too pretty and doesn't look like a party animal. Asia Argento however is perfect. Sure, her role is more physical, she has not much to speak in French. I knew a girl with exactly the same Italian accent, sounds nice by the way. The whole movie is nice to look at, but somehow, you don't get too much involved. The end could have been more dramatic.

Bless the Child
(2000)

Hell awaits !
This movie comes straight from the Vatican's P/R Department. Maybe the pope himself was script advisor for this one. To be true, it is an insult to intelligence, unbelievable from A - Z. Ok, it is supposed to be a "supernatural thriller", but why do day always have to use the religious things. I mean, we already saw the equally dumb "Stigmata" and "End of Days", but at least these movies have some nice cinematography, are well photographed and have some action sequences. But Bless the Child takes itself too serious. They are tying to tell us "Drugs are no good" - "The devil is a very bad guy" - "Sects are very dangerous" - "The catholic church is the best" - "A car will explode when falling down a bridge, even before impact" - "A nun's prayer can safe lives". Sorry, I can hardly bear so much wisdom at once. The only thing this movie does is turning a good catholic into an atheist. There is not one single believable line. I don't know what actors like Christina Ricci or Ian Holm were doing in this. Don't they read scrips ? A bad agent ? A big paycheck ? Kim Basinger's performance is bloodless, the FBI Agent has no charisma, the bad guy's sidekicks are so dumb, the nanny is ridiculous, and the child is just banging his head. Only Christina Ricci and the blonde drug girl are convincing. Mr Russel, next time, please handle some intelligent script or at least, do not try to sell a goofy comedy as serious stuff.

Chocolat
(2000)

Bitter taste
It's bitter and sweet at the same time. Comedy and drama. You have to see it as a fairy tale with over exaggerated characters, because everything is soo fake. Believe me, there is no Town in France where all inhabitants speak English with using from time to time some French words. Ok it was done for the international market. The makers want you believe that in a French town stupidity reigns, if you do not go to church you're an outcast (kind of true), a chocolate shop in a town with about 70 people could really work. This chocolate was hard to swallow. And by the way, Johnny Depp is so wooden and in this movie you could think he never slept during the production.

Une pour toutes
(1999)

Short story, long film
This film is mediocre. The story itself is simple and could have been done in 1 hour instead of two. The acting is good, I liked the blonde girl very much, but as I already told, it gets a bit boring after 1 and a half hours and you wish it to end.

Papy fait de la résistance
(1983)

Rather dumb
It is never as good as "La grande vadrouille". Some scenes are funny, others just too dumb. Why do German officers talk in French (with a wrong German accent) among them ? They have an impressive cast, but that's pretty much all this French comedy about the German invasion has to offer.

Du poil sous les roses
(2000)

Great French comedy in the vain of American Pie
This is one of the funniest films I saw this year. About 2 teenagers looking for sexual experience, and how they are to be become together. The actors are great and natural. This is a lot more realistic as American Pie or any other US High School comedy. American people would be shocked to see how easy French guys do their cinema with more open scenes and no false moral at all. Two thumbs up ! The main actress (Roudoudou) is very charming. Hope we'll see more of these in the future.

The Real Howard Spitz
(1998)

Deadly Dull
I had to see this on the British Airways plane. It was terribly bad acting and a dumb story. Not even a kid would enjoy this. Something to switch off if possible.

Shakespeare in Love
(1998)

Sorry, this film was not too good
Possibly I am the only one who gives a bad mark (5) but I was very disappointed by this film. It is all too nervous at the beginning, scenes are cut too fast, the atmosphere is washed away by video-clip styled filming. The actors are not too bad, but the story is very dumb. Even a 3 year old kid recognizes after ten seconds that it is a woman in disguise, but all the dumb people around have no clue until the wig falls down, and are damn surprised. Anyway, I ask myself how she is able to hide so much hair in this wig. A bad film for dumb people, go rather see "Festen" or "Happiness" is you want to use more brain.

Vollmond
(1998)

Too much
Very good for a Swiss Movie, but Freddy Murer tries to put too many elements in this movie. Everything about Switzerland has to be shown : a racist, rich people, fake, solitary, all languages. This gives a very general picture about Swiss culture. The problem in the film is that the mixture of reality and mystery in Twin Peaks style seems much too artificial. Some scenes are only silly, e.g. the ritual with glass moving.

However, nice try and worth to see anyway.

Katzendiebe
(1996)

Not bad, for a Swiss movie
This Swiss film is quiet entertaining, but the story is a bit too weak and the acting very bad. Compared with international films it is unfortunately not too good.
