Meet the Stewarts
(1942)

Perfectly Delightful.....
From the first moment to the last, this was perfectly delightful!! Holden and Dee really make this one work as the handsome newlyweds that are trying desperately to stay within their meager budget. Watching them, one "almost" yearns for that awkward adjustment period that succeeds marriage. This pairing of stars really works too. They've got tons of chemistry that really helps one believe their story and has you rooting for them to make it work. There are tons of movies out there with this same premise but they often turn into yawners. This one was the exception for me. Their quirky antics kept it fresh and I found myself smiling throughout.

The Little Foxes
(1941)

A Bit of Southern Discomfort......
Now..now.. don't get me wrong. By discomfort, I could only mean that I was greatly disappointed that this movie ended so abruptly. I was just getting comfortable with this well written little masterpiece when it ended. Indeed, I was just about to ring for a Mint Julep or something else completely indigenous of the South when the credits started to roll. Bette Davis gave an incredible performance as Regina Giddens. She was superbly fiendish and at her best. There was a remarkably well put together cast that played wonderfully off of each other and the writing was delicious. This movie was immensely entertaining and as stated previously, I only wish I could have seen more. This was truly an enchanting piece of work. By all means, put it on your list of things to do.

Home Before Dark
(1958)

One darn good movie...from what I can remember.
I haven't seen this film since the mid seventies. I've been waiting, not very patiently for it to aire again. It was also a favorite of an older sibling of mine. We often discuss scenes from this film and Jean Simmons' performance that still rings clear in our heads today. If anyone ever ask us what movie we'd like to see that we haven't seen in years, we'll both shout out, "Home Before Dark" unanimously. We've tried to contact the studio where the film was made. We've looked high and low, written movie stations that aire the classics but no one has yet to answer our request. It's a great film! If ANYONE is willing to sell us a copy, please feel free to contact me. I've always thought Jean Simmons was an awesome actress. This movie confirms my conviction.

That Forsyte Woman
(1949)

I Want My Money Back!!!
I made an awful mistake. I thought that because Greer Garson was such a great actress, all of her films had to be just as great. Oh, what a fool I was! I was so disappointed with this film. I'd purchased several of Ms. Garson's films at one time and settled in this past weekend for a Greer Garson film festival. "That Forsyte Woman" was the third film watched and I found myself wiggling and blowing from boredom. Mr. Flynn was a handsome diversion, but Greer's love interest, Robert Young, just didn't fit the bill. The story was just all together weak. There were some decent performances, but the story lacked and lacked a lot. As a matter of fact, I was waiting for the thick of the plot and the credits started to roll. How infuriating!!! I'm very proud of my library of movies and I rarely take away from them, but I'm almost embarrassed to have this one on display. I'd steer clear of this one.

Mrs. Parkington
(1944)

It Was Like Watching A Fairy Tale Come To Life.....
Oh, why couldn't this film have been longer? I was taken in from the very beginning and was fascinated watching the lives of the Parkingtons. Greer Garson was exceptional as we watched her age from a young lady to a family matriarch in her 80's. I must agree that the pairing of she and Walter Pidgeon was superb and Agnes Moorehead's performance was remarkable. Gladys Cooper always stands out in any cast and with costumes of such splendor and the storylines that ranged from tragic to tremendous, there was no way to lose with this movie. Perhaps now, I'll go purchase the novel and see if I can get any more from this tale that didn't make it to the big screen. As they always say, "the book was better than the movie". I intend to try and find out. I can hardly imagine it, but I can only hope to find more and more delight from the adventures of the Parkingtons. This was one of my favorites with the pairing of Garson and Pidgeon. It's a truly entertaining movie and I recommend it highly!

When Ladies Meet
(1941)

No Ladies I Know Behave This Way....
...but perhaps I don't know a lot of true ladies. I'm more shocked that Joan Crawford got top billing in this delightful little farce. Greer Garson stole the show and Robert Taylor's role was dashing and quite likeable. Spring Byington played the perfect hostess for the weekend "Dish of the Dames". The truly unbelievable thing was the casting of Herbert Marshall as Rogers Woodruff. Hard to imagine one woman, let alone two having such rapturous feelings for that character. Perhaps there's the reality in this story. After all, these things are rarely understood. I found, in this case, "When Ladies Meet", to be quite entertaining and being a die-hard Greer Garson fan, I highly recommend it!!

The Valley of Decision
(1945)

How Did This One Ever Get Past Me???
I sat in awe of this film one chilly October evening in 2001 and I remember the thought going through my mind, "how is it that I've never seen this before?" I adore Greer Garson and her performance as Mary Raffery took my breath away and Gregory Peck has always been at the top of my list of talented and handsome actors. This movie is full of anxiety ridden romance and dramatic acting at its best. With a superb cast and a wonderful story line, I'd recommend this movie to anyone that feels they're able to truly recognize greatness.

Woman on the Run
(1950)

Bit Off Every Nail......
***SLIGHT SPOILERS*** I'm not prone to exaggeration and yes, I am an avid Ann Sheridan fan. Saying that, I thought this movie to be a real delight. It wasn't long and it kept my attention from beginning to end. Ms. Sheridan gives a memorable portrayal of the wife of a man that's hiding out because he's witnessed a murder and the murderer tried to take a shot a him. Ms. Sheridan is desperate to find her husband before the police and she teams with a reporter that claims he wants the scoop on the story and is willing to pay the couple that have been down on their luck. She and the reporter are close on the scent of her ailing husband, but not until the last few nerve wrecking moments does Ms. Sheridan discover that her side-kick/reporter is in fact the man that's looking to bump her husband off. There's a fabulous and memorable roller coaster scene. I highly recommend this film and most of Ann Sheridan's work.

The Egg and I
(1947)

(Egg)tra Good!!
This film is totally delightful. Light romantic comedy with a cast of colorful characters. I saw it once and I've been hooked every since. It also made me life-long fans of Ma and Pa Kettle but that's a whole other basket of eggs!! Sit back and enjoy!!!

The Wedding Planner
(2001)

Simply Delightful..
Ovations for this simply sweet and humorous romantic comedy. It takes me back to the days where Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck sizzled on the big screen in Roman Holiday. The chemistry between Lopez and McConaughey was hot, hot, hot and somehow, not so hot that it was sleazy. Ms. Lopez is completely believable in her role as wedding planner: the dedicated, driven career woman and handsome McConaughey is delicious as the charming, down-to-Earth husband-to-be of Lopez's client. This sweet romantic comedy even made me wonder about dissolving my vow to never get romantically involved again. These two make magic! It's totally entertaining and highly recommended!!

The Pick-up Artist
(1987)

Sparks Fly Between The Stars...
I found the chemistry between Ringwald and Downey, Jr. to be as scintillating as that of Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepard of Moonlighting fame. I do agree that this film was probably designed to showcase Ms. Ringwald's talent, but in the process, showcased the charisma and talent of Robert Downey, Jr.

I first saw this film right after high school. It was light and entertaining. These days, the teen flicks bore me to tears, but I can honestly say that Downey's performance pulls me to the small screen time and time again. It's not a must see, but the sparks flying between these two stars make it quite enjoyable.

The Women
(1939)

A Roller Coaster Ride of Entertainment!!
Find a cushy chaise, a bowl of popcorn and hold on!! This fast pace film is one of the very best. Just try to keep up with the incredible split lightning, knee slapping dialouge. Oddly enough, it's about a very serious subject but the writers have found a way to keep you absolutely fascinated and fastened to your seats. Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer and Rosiland Russell give award winning performances. This is one "Not" to miss.

A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story
(1992)

Awestruck...
"I have regrets but no remorse". I always get chills when I think of Ms. Baxter speaking these words as the character of Betty Broderick, a woman who has just murdered her ex-husband and his new bride. Her portrayal as a neurotic woman, scorned, blows the mind!! She breaks all stereotypes of the wholesome Elise Keaton from the 70's sitcom, Family Ties. She's an awesome actress! It's a very entertaining movie!

Obsessed
(1992)

I've Seen Worse......
Actually, for television, I found it to be a real "time passer". I mean, I could have cleaned my toilet or my toenails, but I was so amused at the fact that someone thought to pair Ms. Doherty with the renown Mr. Devane, that I found myself unusually drawn in. I know it wasn't a good movie, but it wasn't painful. If it's raining outside and you've got the flu and you can't find the remote and you're too weak to walk over to the television to turn the channel, I'd suggest this movie. As for me, I have to be honest. I've always thought William Devane was rather sexy so I probably would watch it again if it wasn't raining, I didn't have the flu and I could find the remote, but on a serious note, I didn't care for Doherty in the role, although she wasn't half bad. In short, it's bearable and slightly, yes, slightly entertaining.

The Woman in the Window
(1944)

Just One Look. That's All It Took........
This one was a true nail biter. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Mr. Robinson's performance was believable and Ms. Bennet was beautiful and just as realistic as two people desperate to cover up a crime. This is a film that I highly recommend. It's suspenseful and dramatic. I felt as though I was on a roller coaster ride and couldn't get off. In short, I was a nervous wreck wondering how this film would play out. I highly recommend this one. I almost passed it by but I am eternally grateful that I didn't. Rent it, buy it, but by all means, watch it!!

Laura
(1944)

Tierney: One of The Loveliest Corpse on Screen
Although Tierney and Dana Andrews got top billing, I'd have to say that the most outrageous character was performed by Clifton Webb. His acid-tongued delivery was sprayed with the venom of a cobra and yet, I found him the most delightful character to watch. "Laura" is a very good drama with lots of twist and turns and the haunting romantic score will stay with me always. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who has a passion for stylish thrillers that are well scripted and full of unexpected events.

Queen Bee
(1955)

Crawford's Stinger was Sharp.......
I love a good drama and this one left nothing to be desired. Ms. Crawford was in rare form. Her tongue was that of a wasp (Stinging and painful). Her wardrobe was fit for a queen and her performance was royal. The southern accents needed a little work, but all in all, Queen Bee was very good.

Roman Holiday
(1953)

Absolutely Enchanting!!
This is, by far, one of the best romantic comedies ever put on film. Hepburn is radiant! Peck is sizzling! In short, they rock! The film is well written, well directed, but mainly, the acting is what blows you away. Expect to laugh and expect to get a little misty. It has everything it should and it Sparkles!

The Haunting
(1999)

I Should Shoot Myself...
Yes, I should shoot myself!! I saw the 1963 version of this movie and it wasn't good, but it had potential. I really didn't think that things could have gotten worse, so I purchased the DVD......BIG MISTAKE. All I can really say is, "I want my money back"!! Not even the star magnetism of Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones could pull this one out of the quicksand.
