The Ice Road
(2021)

Utterly forgetable (exluding Liam's accountant)
I never had problem with some mindless action movie but still expect some resonably consistent storyline, resonable acting and when needed good CGIs.

The Ice Road had promising storyline, good casting but almost everything else failed.

Poor dialogues, wooden acting, back the 80s CGI... making it completely unremarkable movie to watch.

Netflix, Amazon TV, Apple TV+, Disney+ etc. Content war means much money will be dumped onto studios with little quality control.

This movie turned as a waste of good budget.

Skip unless, like many others during pandemic lockdowns, you reached the end of content barrel.

Tehran
(2020)

Sadly, Fauda it is not still, it is entertaining.
Watched the first 5 episodes ("somehow" leaked in perfect timing to push the buzz on the series and Apple+ deal). Clearly production of Israeli content is getting a major shake up in recent years and this is another prime example. "Tehran" rides on the same middle eastern tension that can provide stories for numerous series. In this case, we have a good concept for a story but it very quickly overshot with needless ridiculous and unrealistic plot lines. Getting a hacker to operate behind enemy lines is complex enough. Plenty of plot line to develop there before the need to cram every possible stolen twist into few episodes. The airport switch, the stupid disguise to penetrate the electricity company (nose job? try that at work next time), the accidental killing of boss (so can she fight or not?), the sexual harassment story (box ticked), the lost aunt with extremist family (good luck getting into intelligence services without them knowing about it), the love story with drug dealing Iranian hacker/savior. 5 episodes and enough plot lines for 5 series. WAY too much. way too quick. way too silly. Shame. dialed significantly down, it could have been decent.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist

If you hate musicals, run for your life. Otherwise.. OMG
Fresh and very original show. Fantastic lead and wonderful supporting cast. Great music selection. Sadly, it is not glee and some of the music performances is very local karaoke level. Still, if popular music can still move you, it will hit a note most of the time. And if it will get a new generation to spotify Van Morrison or Cat Stevens or ... All the better.

Last Christmas
(2019)

I rarely hate a movie, but this one really annoyed me
Sorry, but this Xmas cheesefest stinks to high heavens. The story is god awful (double that once you get to the main story twist). The dialogues are painful beyond cringe factor. The acting as can be expected with this dreadful script is horrific Emma Thompson's worst job in years. Emilia Clarke was never a great actress and she plainly sucks - there is nothing charming about her character. Michelle Yeoh did not seem comfortable in her role and should return to martial arts flicks ASAP. Henry Golding is the only cast member that managed to put a likable character on set. Oh, and as for the Brexit/Xenophobic "finger pointing", you know exactly what you can do with that finger....

Homecoming
(2018)

Hit: Acting, Style, Directing ...Miss: Episode Duration, SLOW - Wish it was a film!
This clearly would have made a great feature film! IMHO, Squeeze this series into 2 hours and you have an absolute winner on your hand (probably Oscar worthy). As a series - it is worth watching but far from perfect. It is painfully slow - despite the short episode length (why?) each episode drags for ever. I binged it over a single long night but it felt like a chore I had to finish more than a joyful experince. Still - acting (Julia Roberts,Bobby Cannavale, Stephan James and especially the short moments of Sissy Spacek) were excellent. Direction, style and camera work were superb. So definitely great ingridients in a somewhat heavy meal.

Manifest

Lasted till episode 8 - "Point of no return" is a perfect name for it.
I'm done with this series (Lasted till Episode 8).

I just can't get NBC's business logic - surely so much time and money is invested before a series like this goes into air and as soon as it does, it seems all effort goes elsewhere and the good writers are moved to the next project. Writing becase LAZY below creative writing 101 course. Acting was never the strong part here but a good story could have keep this series running for a long distance. It could have taken the faith calling path (I would hate it but keep watching), it could have gone the alien path, It could have gone time-travel path or even smartly evolving super-powers. Sadly. It goes nowhere besides cancellation.

Sense8
(2015)

Darn, I never worked so hard to watch an entire season
I thought season one was a (somewhat too long) introduction but a potential buildup for a great story and Netflix had a string of successes that made me think this one will deliver.

Season 2 was an absolute bore. For a decent season ending in the last episode, I had to drag myself through 10 long episodes with hardly anything exciting to bite into. Endless slow shots of young bodies with beautiful background+decent soundtrack and... that's it. It is just a style magazine with absolutely no real article or substance. I suppose this is the director's idea of "ode to humanity" but where is the story?. If typecast by committee for season one was painful, in season 2 every second line is a cringe-worthy "we are the world/love conquers all" slogan. Sadly this one is all lettuce and no meat in sight. Back to the drawing board on this series.

Proof
(2015)

1...2...3.... and I'm out
I think 3 episodes are enough to make up my mind. The idea behind the series is not bad... sure, we all want proof of afterlife. Sadly, the execution is (again) a series written "by numbers". Everything is stereo-typed to the satisfy the lowest common denominator. The characters are all non-likable and after 3 episodes, I am left totally numb and careless about the main character and her journey. I assume this will be a long-winding road with every episode including another poor actor exposes his after/past life experience and the tear jerking love that was missed, just to be ignored by the sad-excuse for what should be a top doctor with a brilliant scientific mind. Give me a break.... there are so many better things to watch out there. C (minus) for effort TNT

Robot Overlords
(2014)

A Must see for all the family?? Really??
How can someone spend so much time, money and effort (Significant amounts by the look of things), get names such as Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley to join his project and end up with this sad excuse for a sci-fi blockbuster wannabe?

The storyline is stupid beyond anyone (above 3 year old) belief. The dialogues are moving between bad to embarrassingly cheesy. The acting is wooden at best. The CGI is dated. There is very little good to write about it. Dr. Who style? Maybe. How does that suppose to work on the Cinema screen??

Once the storyline was approved, this movie was doomed. If the 1% of the budget would have been spent on the writing, it could have made a huge difference.

This should have gone to video. Don't waste your money!

iZombie
(2015)

Veronica's brain eating disorder
Clearly in the "teen comic detective" and not in the "zombie apocalypse" TV zone so most zombie hardcore genre will not find any interest here. It does have a feeling of series built by a recommendation engine trying to pick target audience (young adults), trending topic (zombies), gap in market (young detective) and even series name (iZombie for real? Something to go with the teen mobile, tablet and iLives?) . The result is like reheated leftovers, to be avoided unless you really do not have anything original in the fridge. Good effort on behalf of the cast but the storyline and writing needs to pick up quickly or the lure of the series name will not help and it will lose the target market interest.

Under the Dome
(2013)

Enough is enough
I am a huge fan of Stephen King but must admit that books like "Under The Dome" or "Cell" were the bottom from his pile of books. Probably because they felt like written "ready" for a movie or series. So when this series came out... it sort of made sense. I did not expect much from it but could see where it would go.

The first season was HORRIBLE. the only one who did any decent job was the team behind the visuals and they could retire after 3 episodes. The rest was sub any standard of show. The plot line, acting, direction... I have no idea how much money is put into these series, but I think now it is clear it is beyond any hope.

I rarely ditch a series... but this one is a total waste of time. Pretty much any series out there is better. Shame on anyone involved (including Mr. King if he has any say about this abomination)

Extant
(2014)

Well, they sure spared no money...
I have only one advice to whoever wrote this one: SLOW DOWN!.

Felt like every blockbuster sci-fi movie had been ransacked for ideas and the result was stashed in a single episode. Like someone telling you a complex story in a single sentence with no punctuation.

Really?? the AI robot boy who's the child of the recently returned from space mission (and impregnated by alien) astronaut that is married to the crazy scientist who is trying to flood the world with technology about to destroy humanity etc. etc.

WAY too much. This feels like taking Duck Terrine, Steak Fillet, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Strawberry Cheesecake and Espresso and putting them all in a blender.

If the next episodes are at the same rate... I'm off this Series

Unthinkable
(2010)

The price of keeping our way of life
Watched it last night and was really impressed. This is the sort of film that gets you thinking about your own moral grounds... how far would you have gone in order to save 1000s of lives. The story is simple, realistic and very current which makes it really efficient. I do believe this sort of threat by a single/small independent group of terrorists getting hold of a dirty bomb is the one we should all be loosing sleep over.

It does require a fairly strong stomach and will get some people uneasy with some of the torture scenes but this is exactly the purpose of the film.

The acting by the lead roles is superb - both Jackson and Moss are playing at the top of their game. While the storyline is not likely to be politically popular and therefore I will be surprised if we'll see many awards headed up this film's way. Still, hats off for memorable roles for both of them.

I don't think that everybody can watch this film, I doubt my wife could sit through all of it without some serious cringing. The subject of the film however is important enough to suggest that anyone who can tolerate strong violence on the screen should make time to watch the film. While enjoyable it probably not a good word to describe this film, it is surely memorable and impressive.
