Il postino
(1994)

Excellent
Maybe it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, but it was definitely very touching, very lyrical, and a very beautiful movie about love and friendship. I think the acting was wonderful throughout, especially that of Troisi, given so soon before his death. And the music is positively haunting. Many kudos to the composer. It doesn't get much better. So what if it doesn't have a lot of action, it's all in the story, and this story is beautiful.

What Women Want
(2000)

Not too shabby
Okay, I went to see this movie with a couple of my friends (who are girls) and we all basically agreed on the strong and weak points of the movie. We decided that the first half of the movie was a definite plus. We really like Lola (Tomei's character) Delta Burke's accent was so unnecessary His daughter (Ashley Johnson) had the right idea The last 1/3 of the movie kinda reeked. His ending speech could've been better if it were more realistic. Why did she fire him? and while Helen Hunt wasn't a bad choice of a leading lady, we've seen so much her in the past few months, it may have been a little better if we had seen someone new and fresh.

It's light and it's fun. Don't go expecting a mind bender or brain teaser, but for an empty Friday or Saturday night, it's not bad. If you are a Mel fan, this is definitely the movie for you.

The Shawshank Redemption
(1994)

I had heard so much...
I had heard so many good things about this movie, that I just had to see it. I was not disappointed. This is probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. Period. Tim Robbins was outstanding, simply outstanding. Morgan Freeman was wonderful and I did not know that Gil Bellows had so much in him. This movie was absolutely breathtaking. The scenery, the realism, the characters, everything was simply outstanding. I sat through the entire movie, spellbound by the whole thing, and then I rewound it and watched again. I've seen 6 times since, and I always find new and wonderful things everytime I see it. I loved it. It was amazing. This movie is not just about prison, but it's about friendship. A 20-year-long friendship between two inmates. I recommend this movie for anyone who needs to find out what real friendship is all about. This is truly one of the best movies ever.

Arthur
(1981)

Absolutely Hilarious!!!!
I absolutely adore this movie. Arthur was so funny!!! Dudley Moore plays a drunk better than anyone I've ever seen, and he was sooooo crazy. I give this movie 2 thumbs up, 10 and 1/2 and whatever else you can give it. I love the song too, and Liza Minnelli and John Gielgud were fantastic. If you're trapped between the moon and New York City, the best you can do is go see Arthur!!!!

Galaxy Quest
(1999)

A huge and pleasant surprise
I must admit that I didn't go into this film with high expectations, but Galaxy quest delivered a lot of laughs. It was smartly written, and the jokes were very well acted. I thought it would be silly, and it was for a little bit, but the funny quota far outweighed the silliness. Galaxy Quest has big laughs for everyone in the family. It's a good time and a wild ride.

What the Deaf Man Heard
(1997)

pretty good
I thought this was a great made-for-tv movie. Although they probably could have cut down on the running time by about 30 minutes, the movie was still good. Matthew Modine, Tom Skerrit, James Earl Jones, and Judith Ivey all delivered great performances. I give it 4 stars. It's good family entertainment.

Fakin' Da Funk
(1997)

Very Interesting
I had never heard of this movie until I saw it this afternoon. I was channel surfing and managed to luck up on it when it was starting. I watched five minutes and was hooked until the end of the closing credits. I thought the movie was really good, and it explored a racial tension line that I had never thought to explore before. It was an interesting and tastefully done. I liked it

Bed of Roses
(1996)

Romantically Sweet
At the time that this movie was in theaters, I didn't really want to see it, so I didn't. I later rented it on one of those nights where I needed a feel good romance.

Bed of Roses was that and a lot more. Christian Slater was amazing as a very rare male romantic, and Mary Stuart Masterson was also endearing as his love interest.

The only downfall was the trite script, but that was more than made up for by the wonderful acting, and the beautiful idea of the story.

It makes you really think about what love is really all about.

For a wonderful romantic movie that gives you a reason to go out and look for that special someone, see Bed of Roses.

Only You
(1994)

Incredibly Sweet and Engaging
I loved this movie.

And for all the stupid mistakes he's made, you have to admit that Robert Downey Jr. can turn in some pretty amazing performances. Marisa Tomei also shines in this incredible fairy tale about looking everywhere to find your one true love.

Light, sweet, and absolutely beautiful, "Only You" will show that at the most unexpected times (or with the most unexpected people) love can show up. You should be ready for it. Don't let the love of your life slip through your fingers in an Italian airport.

10/10

North
(1994)

All I can say is hmmm...
I have to admit that when "North" came to theaters, I didn't really want to see it, so I didn't. (Not then, anyway) The only reason I saw it in the first place was that I was in the video store and there was nothing else better to watch. Being a fan of Elijah Wood, I thought I might give "North" a try.

The movie wasn't really horrible. It was almost enjoyable in a way. I especially like the whole Hawaii part with the crack and everything. It would be a good kiddie movie, because in the end it teaches a really good lesson. Even though the acting was so-so and the plot was a little off, "North" still scores with the fact that even plotless movies can give some entertainment.

"North" gets two thumbs up.

Toy Soldiers
(1991)

Good entertainment
So the plot wasn't all that original.

Who Cares?

Toy Soldiers was absolutely stunning in the portrayal of a group of teenage boys held hostage in their boarding school. The acting by Louis Gossett Jr., Sean Astin, Wil Wheaton, Keith Coogan, and Shawn Phelan as "Yogurt" was phenomenal. If you want to see a great movie with lots of action, and a great ending, check out Toy Soldiers

9/10

Charles in Charge
(1984)

Good quality entertainment
Charles in Charge was just about the best show you could grow up watching. I love Scott Baio, and I think both families were great! It would be great if Charles were in Charge of me!!! I've always thought that if I ever had a live in babysitter, Charles would be the one for me.

I Want to Keep My Baby!
(1976)

Moving, very moving
I saw this made for tv film, and it made me cry. In this film, a fifteen year old girl gets pregnant by her boyfriend and decides to keep her baby. She moves out of her house, and into a home for unwed mothers. It's amazing the struggle she goes through. Life is tough. I just couldn't believe the beautifully realistic, but frightening way it was portrayed, with the girl literally at her wits end. In the conclusion, the girl finally makes what seems to be the right choice, and all ends well. As I said before, moving, very moving. This a movie that every teenager needs to see.

The Matrix
(1999)

The Matrix Kicks ***
I thought this movie was amazing. Sure a few of the scenes made me tired just looking at them, but isn't that part of the fun? I also thought that Keanu Reeves was perfectly cast, as well as Moss and Fishburne. The effects are absolutely awesome. I don't know why so many people didn't like this movie; it was pure entertainment. It is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, and I think that anyone is looking for 2 hours of sci-fi action and adventure should also check it out.

I still say, if you want a good movie, check out The Matrix.

The Boy Who Drank Too Much
(1980)

Very Real and disturbing
This was an awesome movie. Scott Baio is absolutely wonderful as an aspiring and hard-working diver in training. His dreams come crashing down around him after a night of drinking lands him in the hospital the day before a huge qualifying meet. This movie paints a realistic and disturbing picture of the dangers of drinking and driving. Everyone needs to see it. It will definitely make you think.

And the Band Played On
(1993)

Gripping
This movie was one of the best "made for T.V." films that I've ever seen. Matthew Modine was intriguing as Don Francis, as HBO shows the struggle that one man put up for the safety of the country.

The story will break your heart as it shows how Don Francis and the CDC fight to show the country the danger of the then unknown virus, AIDS.

It's a positively gripping movie, even if it had a little "tinkering". AND THE BAND PLAYED ON shows the how some people are willing to fight for the good of the country.

Dead Poets Society
(1989)

Seize the Day
This movie was absolutely wonderful. I've always been a big fan of Robin Williams. He is a great comedic actor, but this incredible dramatic portrayal of John Keating, is what makes this one of my most favorite movies of all times.

Not only is Robin Williams absolutely intriguing, but so is Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, and Josh Charles. As Keating's students, they build the plot with their own individual stories, which come together in the end, for an astounding ending, that will make you cheer.

Made in Heaven
(1987)

True love can always be found.
Anytime that a movie is made about heaven, there is always the chance that people may find it unbelievable. This was not the case in this wonderful movie.

Timothy Hutton first plays Mike, a young man who dies tragically saving the lives of a woman and her two kids.

Then he does the worst possible thing that he could do. He falls in love in Heaven. In this movie, no matter who you are in Heaven, you will return to Earth.

He falls in love with Annie, played majestically by Kelly McGillis.

To make a long story short, Annie returns to Earth. And Mike begs to be returned, in hopes to find Annie on Earth as he did in Heaven. He has until his Thirtieth Birthday to find her. With Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis leading the way,and wonderful supporting performances by Maureen Stapleton, Mare Winningham, Timothy Daly, and someone who we will just call Emmett, Made in Heaven will touch your heart, make you think, and will show you that you can always find true love.

It Could Happen to You
(1994)

Absolutely Outstanding
This is a great movie about a down on his luck cop and is brassy wife. Played by Nicholas Cage and Rosie Perez, these two characters come to life. One day, Nicholas Cage doesn't have enough money to tip the waitress, so he says he would give her half the winnings of his lottery ticket if he won or double the tip. Well, he wins $4 million. And decides to do the honest thing and give half to the waitress, beautifully played by Bridget Fonda.

Anyway, they end up falling in love in a sweet and wonderful ending that is sure to put a smile on your face.

Only You
(1992)

incredibly sweet
This is a great movie. Andrew McCarthy is a doll-house furniture designer who hasn't been having good luck with women lately. He finds an incredibly hot-looking woman in a bar and decides to fly her to paradise for Christmas. The next morning the woman, Kelly Preston, wakes up and doesn't remember anything due to being drunk. I don't want to spoil the movie but unexpected things happen and love blossoms in Only You. Andrew McCarthy is incredible, and Kelly Preston is superb. see it today.

Untamed Heart
(1993)

Sweet
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's amazing how few good romance movies are out there. Christian Slater and Marisa Tomei were fabulous. Rosie was unexpectedly wonderful too. Untamed Heart was sweet and sensitve. It mad you laugh, it made you cry. It was absolutely outstanding. I loved it.

The Wizard
(1989)

Good really Good
I thought this movie was great. Luke Edwards was outstanding. Fred Savage and Jenny Lewis were great as well. The whole movie was an amazing look at the mind of a child through video games. It was excellent.

Mannequin
(1987)

Not Deep, but good
Mannequin is probably not the deepest most profound movie you'll ever see. Actually it's probably the exact opposite. It has a simple, not-believeable story line. A man that designs manneqiuns goes to work in a big department store. The mannequin that he works with comes to life and builds her own displays. In turn, the rival department store steals the mannequin. Blah blah blah. But the thing is, that no matter how stupid the storyline, some small part of your imagination wants it all to be true. And with a happy ending and a great closing theme song, Mannequin is a feel good movie that shows you're never too young to dream.

Top Gun
(1986)

Outstanding
Top gun is awesome! This is one of Tom Cruise's best roles. The chemistry between him and Kelly McGillis is just wonderful. Anthony Edwards was great as Goose. Val Kilmer also lit up the screen as the "cool" and unflappable Iceman. The movie is just amazing. The whole cast was good and you had to love Tom Cruise. The plot was outstanding and so was the flying. Great Movie.

Face/Off
(1997)

Kicks Butt
This movie kicks serious butt. John Woo is a fantabulous director. John Travolta is wonderful and Nicholas Cage is outstanding. I loved it! The action sequences were great. John Woo is a master of his art. He makes you sit on the edge of your seat, while you silently root for the good guy, but in the back of your mind you kinda want the bad guy to win, just because you know that the good guy is the bad guy. The plot is intriguing and the actors are wonderful. It doesn't let you go. It's the kind of movie where you start it and you just have to finish it. You can't stop. it's amazing.
