The Out of Towners
(1970)

Compare this with the Martin-Hawn version!
This is Lemmon and Dennis at their Paul Simon best. The roles they both deserve Oscars for. Lemmon's character's pathos arising out of naive optimism is Chaplinesque, at times. And Dennis is at her best as his Edith Bunker type wife.

Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
(1993)

The more I watch it the more I like it.
I admit, the first time I watched Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, I didn't think it was very memorable in any regard. But now after viewing it the 7th time, I admit that it has very much grown on me. The characters of Sissy, Ms. Jellybean, and the Countess have become very endearing. And the romance between Sissy and Jellybean seems very sweet. Though the plot is very weak, I think the satirical humor more than makes up for it. Then there's the kick-ass soundtrack which features the tremendously talented K.D. Lang (who reminds me a little of Patsy Cline) at her best. I can't think of any movie that has "grown on me" after an inauspicious first impression, as much as Cowgirls has.

Earth Girls Are Easy
(1988)

It just gets better every time I watch it.
This is one movie I just can't get tired of. It brings back the "bad old 70s" that the current conservative movement condemns so passionately and which I miss so much.

I LOVED those "bad old days" and if there IS a "Heaven" it will look like the world depicted in Earth Girls. I've viewed this film over 50 times and it just keeps getting more enjoyable. I especially enjoy the song and dance numbers, which remind me of my favorite director, Spike Lee. What can I say? I'm an Earth Girls addict, without a doubt, and you'll become one too, after viewing it at least 3 times.

Pink Flamingos
(1972)

This movie made me a John Waters addict
Though, I'd already seen Hairspray, I didn't become a truly rabid John Waters fan until I saw Pink Flamingos. The first time I viewed it was a profoundly jarring experience - this was depravity for its own and noblest sake. It set the standard for brilliant trash cinema verite, USA style. When viewed in the broader context of Waters other "life in Baltimore" movies, one appreciates the way waters is able to e the dark side of affluent suburbab America through the magnifying glass of surrealistic, scalpel pointed satire. I think Waters works as a whole portray late 20th century America in the same vivid

Der Richter und sein Henker
(1975)

Wish I could get my hands on a video of this film
Aside from this being one of Voigt's finest acting performances, this film has such a compellingly haunting quality, that I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since seeing on the local PBS TV station about 15 years ago.

It's a must see for film noir and Hitchcock fans. I found it emotionally gripping much in the same way as did Orson Welles 3rd Man.

Blazing Saddles
(1974)

My all time favorite Western
I have to admit that I hate Western, though I love Country. Or was it the other way around? At any rate, this is the best Western I have EVER seen, bar none.

I watch it at once every couple of months. Along with Repo Man, Catch 22, Tin Drum, and It Seems Like Old Times, it's among my watch it over and over again favorites.
