The importance of being earnest. The 2002 one, with rupert everett. When two friends use the same alias for their naughty doings, things get confusing. A period piece, showing the morals and morales of the late 1890s, when the author was writing. Rupert everett, colin firth. With co-stars judi dench and reese witherspoon. Fun misunderstandings, three's-company-style. Oscar wilde really was genius at the double entendres and clever turn of phrase. Things simmering just under the surface. Such a clever premise. Even the butler is surly and fun. And be sure to note the many, lovely hats of lady bracknell! It's all so fun, in a low key humor. Will the marriages really take place? Will lady bracknell give her blessing? Fun to watch. Directed by oliver parker, for ealing studios.
I didn't realize it was by the controversial roman polanski until i had already started watching. And you can't beat sigourney weaver and ben kingsley. Based on a play that ran for 159 performances. Paulina and her husband have a guest over for dinner. But she believes she has met the stranger before; he may or may not have been the one who tortured and raped her during many interrogations. Clearly, husband and wife have different different priorities, different limits of morality. Husband, wife, and guest all have to endure an emotional journey to reach their own truths. Can paulina get miranda to confess? And what will happen if he does? Really good suspense. Apparently, the ending of the film is much less ambiguous than the original play. Currently showing on kanopy. Dorfman, the author of the play and screenplay, is quoted as saying "having car batteries attached to my genitalia wouldn't be as bad as working with mike nichols." apparently, working with nichols was not a pleasant experience for him!
Grandma lives in china town, her husband has just died. So she takes a bus to the casino and loses all her money. When an opportunity comes along, she robs a gangster. But now they are coming after grandma, and the money. So she hires her own thug for protection! Now they have taken a family member . Neither side is giving up! Grandma must come up with a plan to get her grandson back and keep the money. Can it be done?? It's all done a little tongue in cheek. A couple gun fights. But grandma won't give in! Good drama with some very subtle comedy, where we root for the under-dog. It's pretty good! Even won a bunch of film fest awards! Directed by sasie sealy.
