The Evil Dead
(1981)

Great
Just got this on DVD and all I have to say is "Wow!".

For those who have seen Army Of Darkness, this is nothing like it, as it is straight up horror. The blood flows like wine and the cheesy stop-motion animation looks great. It's not all gore though, it has some very suspensful moments.

Cube
(1997)

pretty cool
I picked this up cause it was in the horror section, but it's much more sci-fi. Pretty cool, though. It had some really tense moments, and the ending left you wanting some kind of explaination. The gore factor was pretty good too.

Scream
(1996)

pretty neat
Not a straight up horror movie, it has elements of mystery and Hitchcock type suspense. Lot's of nice bloody scenes, and pretty good acting. This is the kind of movie that appeals to people outside the hardcore horror community. Just watch out for all those scream rip-offs!

Phantasm
(1979)

Pretty 70's
I have to say, I liked the late 70's vibe going on in this movie. It added something. The sci-fi bit at the end didn't make a whole lot of sense but it was interesting. This

movie was accidentaly in the "Phantoms" box so I didn't know I was going to see it until it started playing.

Seul contre tous
(1998)

good fun
I wouldn't go so far as to call this film shocking, but I thought it really kicked ass. The violence was nice and

realistic, and even though the ending was a cop out, it still left you feeling empty inside. The only thing about this filmed that irked me was that it ripped off Taxi Driver really badly in several places, but I guess if your going to rip off a movie, rip off a good one like Taxi Driver!

Kôkaku kidôtai
(1995)

animation right up there with akira
Darn, this is some of the best animation I have ever seen since Akira. For those having trouble with the plot, try to find the manga (pub. by Dark Horse). A movie you can watch over and over and not get bored with.

The 39 Steps
(1935)

My favorite A. Hitchcock movie
IMHO, this blows away any of the hollywood stuff he did. This has got to be one of the best made films I've ever seen. It has a plot that draws you in, and you are actually wanting to find out what happens to the characters. The whole movie has an air of mystery around it too, kind of like pulp fiction did. Who exactly was the man with the pinkie missing, was Robert Donat all he said he was? Hmmmm....

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
(1964)

What movies are all about
Everyone else has pretty much said everything there is to say about this movie but I'll add my 2 cents. Definetly one of the best movies I've ever seen, and I don't even really like Mr. Kubrick to much. Good writing, great acting. Plus, at the end, the entire world is blown to pieces, what is better then that I'd like to know.

Double Indemnity
(1944)

One of the best noirs
Whoooeee, this was a good one. It was kind of strange to

see Fred McMurry as a bad guy but his acting was solid and it worked. This one's right up there with the Maltese Falcon and Lady in the Lake. You could almost feel the heat!

Lady in the Lake
(1946)

One of the best film noir.
The first person POV was cool, but got a little slow at times. But the writing was solid, the acting was good and directing was A1. The end is a real kicker too. Raymond Chandler is the man.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
(1992)

Probably my favorite movie.
It's hard to explain, but this is probably my favorite live action (Anime is another catagory altogether) movie. If you go a Twin Peaks web page and read the FAQ about the series and this movie, it will just blow your mind. It's so dang complicated it makes your mind do jumping jacks. Only certain times can I watch this movie though, you have to be in the right mood. Sometimes I have turn it off and put in a John Woo flick or Shaft or something because I can't take it. But every once in a while, something about me and Twin Peaks just clicks and I'm in heaven...

Léon
(1994)

could have been titled Lolita Part 2
I saw a few connections between Leon and the story of Lolita (by Nabokov). One scene that stood out in my mind is when Mathilda tells the hotel manager about how Leon is not her father. I'm not saying this movie is bad or anything but if your offended by such matters, proceed with caution.

Ying hung boon sik
(1986)

chow yun fat is god
Besides "The Killer" this is my favorite Chow Yun Fat/John Woo movie. It's all here: gunfights like ballet, drama,

chow yun fat with 2 guns blazing. Even the dubbing wasn't that bad. A great movie.

The Glass Key
(1942)

A good mystery form the author of The Maltese Falcon
The Maltese Falcon is better than this but I enjoyed it. Not one of the best film-noirs I've ever seen but it was solid. The duo of the two torturer's worked good as comic relief. The thing about noir's are, it's the atmosphere not the story per se, and I think this film works in that regard.

Lewis & Clark & George
(1997)

Pretty darned bad
I think this movie was trying to be like a Quentin Tarantino movie, but it was too linear to achieve that. Like some of the other people post, this movie is pretty predictable, (ie) you knew George was the real villain from when you first met her. Left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Suburbia
(1983)

an ok film
This is sort of a punk rite of passage, in that most of the folks I know who listen to punk have seen this movie. The only thing I have to say is punk and plot don't mix, ie punk deals with real life and this is fiction

Pulp Fiction
(1994)

great visuals
A really down to earth movie. Like with most crime/film-noir movies, the mood and visuals are the most important parts and in that respect, this movie succeeds.

The Dentist
(1996)

not a standard horror movie
this was more of a hitchcock kinda drama than a horror movie. Definitely good family fun. The ending was uh "interesting"...

Lost Highway
(1997)

a confusing film
I consider myself a pretty big David Lynch fan, but this movie really left me in the dark. The gratuitous sex scenes were a little too much.

The Shining
(1980)

way to go stanley kubrick
This movie reminds me of David Lynch's movies in that it creates a thick mood that you can live in for the duration of the movie. The camera work work is great and the acting isn't too bad either. The story from the book is obscured but it's a great movie none the less (who could forget those little twins?)

The Cars That Ate Paris
(1974)

?
I read about this movie in the Twin Peaks fanzine "wrapped in plastic". although the movie was interesting it didn't seem to have too much in common with DAvid Lynch. There were a bunch of holes in the story also.

Wild at Heart
(1990)

not lynch's best but OK
Definitely not one of David Lynch's best movies, but it had some cool parts. I esp. liked Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) playing the Good Witch! This movie was too "Hollywood".

The X Files
(1993)

a twin peaks rip off
The x-files is a very well written show but every time I watch it I can not help thinking that it is a copy off of Twin Peaks. The similarities between the 2 shows is too much. That is not to say that I am not a fan of the x-files (it's the best show going right now IMO) it's just not that original

Blue Velvet
(1986)

OK but not as good as Eraserhead
This film was interesting but sometimes the characters would start acting sappy and it broke the mood of the film. For fans of Twin Peaks, SA Dale Cooper plays a lead role in this movie.

Eraserhead
(1977)

an interesting and well made film
eraserhead is one of my favorite movies of all time for it opened me up to the world of underground/avant-garde/ and B Movies. My only complaint is that they cut the scene in which Henry spies on the 2 women tied to the bed and the man with the jumper cables
