Allyson Is Watching
(1997)

Outstanding Soft Core Film
Playboy's Eros line has built a library of good to excellent soft core films. Originally, their goal was to get higher profile actresses (see Kim Delaney in Temptress) into these films, and budget them higher. For whatever reason that didn't work, but they did manage to get soap opera veteran Jennifer Hammon to star in this one.

This is clearly Eros' best work. First of all, a disclaimer: there are two versions of this film. An edited version which I've seen on Cinemax, and an unedited version which still does its intended job of titillation, even after repeated viewings. Do NOT get the edited version -- it's a waste of time, honestly.

The following contains some plot spoilers, for what its worth, although I doubt anyone reading this really cares about the plot. The fact that I even remember the plot speaks well for the movie, however the plot isn't the reason to watch this film. A young woman named Allyson (Hammon) has applied to some Hollywood acting studio and gets accepted. She leaves her boyfriend behind and comes to Hollywood, where she rents an apartment from a weird old man and goes to the film studio. Apparently, this acceptance letter is some form of mass mailing, and the instructor (James Horan) laughs at her. For whatever reason, however, he lets her into his classes.

Turns out Hammon is living next to a high class prostitute named Bridget(Ambrose) and they become close friends. A role Allyson is practicing for in her class is a prostitute, so she asks Bridget for advice on how to play the part of a sexually strong woman. Insert pep talk, lingerie try on, voyeurism session and eventually the two women make love. This scene still amazes me -- this is the most believable sex scene I think I've ever seen in a film. Both actresses seem to be completely into their work and comfortable with one another to such an extreme that it makes you wonder....sorry, got carried away there. Regardless, an outstanding scene.

The movie turns into a bit of a silly murder mystery from then on, but during the course of the movie Hammon has sex scenes with two or three men (and Ambrose) as well as a couple of solo scenes, and Ambrose also appears in a number of scenes. The scenes range from being very suggestive and mostly covered to downright explicit.

If you are looking for this type of film, this is an outstanding example. If you aren't looking for this type of film, why are you still reading this review?

I Cream on Jeannie
(1996)

Buyer Beware: No Sara St. James
I purchased this movie for the sole purpose of seeing Sara St. James in a Hardcore film. Buyer beware: she dances around naked for about fifteen seconds, but at no point is she involved in an actual scene. The other actresses in the film sleepwalk through their lines, although the actress who plays the genie does have some amusing lines (well, amusing for a porn film). Jordan Lee, cover girl, has only one scene as well....

If you are looking for money shots, however, there's a good montage in the middle of the film. Other than that, not recommended at all.

Oh yes: Asia Carerra is NOT in this film at all, and I don't believe Madelyn Knight is either (although I could have fast forwarded through her, but the box doesn't list her).

Under Lock and Key
(1995)

Wow
But not in a good way. I would consider myself fairly well-versed in "Girls in Prison" films, and this one set a new standard. As with all of these films, there were naked women, shower scenes, lesbian guards, etc. However, half-way through the film, there was a definite switch in direction, involving a genuine plot twist, but unfortunately, the direction the film took was a poor one. The movie had a lot of nudity, including the body of Stephanie Ann Smith which is worth a look in and of itself, but no real sex scenes. Disappointing. In a "girls in prison" movie, the only real reason to watch is for the lesbian sex scenes. No dice. The acting in the movie wasn't terrible, at least between the three main characters (Tina, Danielle, Sarah), but the rest of the cast, especially Vega, lacked greatly. Whoever wrote the story, however, should be strung up by their toes. The plot makes no sense. Apparently, there are no consequences in this world. Plot summary (Warning: spoilers....) The main character (Danielle) is an undercover FBI agent in a women's prison, trying to befriend the girlfriend (Sarah) of a gangster, who the FBI is trying to bust. They become friends (had they become more than friends, it would've been a better movie), and eventually get transferred to a different prison. Surprise. On the way there, they get ambushed by agents of Sarah's boyfriend (Vega). Danielle (undercover as a prisoner) gets ahold of a dropped gun and returns fire, killing some of the attackers. They get away, but not before Sarah is shot and killed (a genuine surprise, although I can't help but wonder if she just refused to do any more nude scenes unless they changed her contract, so they got rid of her. Unfortunately, since she had the best body, the rest of the movie sucks even worse). The one surviving prison guard (Tina, the most attractive correctional facility guard I've ever seen) and Danielle run into the woods and somehow end up back at FBI HQ, where Danielle's boss tells her that her daughter's been kidnapped. After some more horrible plot development, Danielle gets suspended by the FBI. So, naturally, Danielle, Tina and a European supermodel/secret agent break into Vega's mansion, kill some people, capture Vega, and get Danielle's daughter back. Conveniently, the FBI shows up about now and praises Danielle for B&E, murder, defying her suspension, and bringing two non-FBI agents into an FBI investigation. So she gets promoted and Tina (who never did get naked, damnit) gets accepted into the FBI. Like I said, the movie seems to have no redeeming quality other than Smith's body. If you are looking for a truly horrible movie to show at a bachelor party or some such, this wouldn't actually be bad. Other than that, steer clear. Pick up "Ishtar", "Showgirls", or some other quality flick.

Auditions from Beyond
(1999)

Dull Video from Surrender Cinema
Surrender Cinema has been known for their extremely erotic, almost explicit sci-fi films. While they generally do very well at these (Femalien 1 & 2, Virtual Encounters), this particular entry seems to be just a rehash of old tape. Any number of girls -- some recognizable and others not -- are in this film in all stages of nudity. There are also several clips from other films which are outstanding, unless you've seen those other films. There are a number of solo nude scenes doing a number of things -- some playing basketball, others talking, still others playing with themselves. The only thing of value in this tape is the very last scene -- a short but erotic girl-girl scene with a very enthusiastic and enjoyable Sandy Wasko and a more subdued Tammie Hainum. Not highly recommended.

Web of Seduction
(1999)

Decent soft-core sex flick
An above-average soft core film which stars attractive actors and actresses who spend most of the time having sex with each other, much of the time they actually do seem to enjoy what they are doing. If you are looking for a good soft core film, this is recommended. If you're looking for Shakespeare, pass on this one.
