A Small Light
(2023)

Wonderfully done
In order to get a 10 rating from me, I have to think if the show could have been done better. I don't think so. For the story that was told from the point of view of Miep and Jan Gies, it was just right.

Sure, they could have added more Hollywood macabre scenes in the concentration camps, but it was unnecessary, and also not from the POV of Miep and Jan. We're supposed to be left wondering what happened everyone just like the characters (although being a historical event, we already know, but that's beside the point). We're supposed to take the ride with Miep, Jan and the characters in Amsterdam.

This is an excellent show and I recommend it to anyone whether you like drama, history, or both. It has the right tone of being watchable without being overly uncomfortable - an amazing feat given the story.

Star Trek Continues: What Ships Are For
(2017)
Episode 9, Season 1

Part very good and part very bad.
I understand what the writers were trying to do, but fell into a few traps. The race relations between the two worlds, and the absurdity of judging someone by color is spot on (pun intended), but the second part about allowing illegal immigration to go unfettered is very much a dangerous leftist trope.

If a world (country) is damaged by its people and their policies, there is every reason to believe they would bring the same tendencies to any new world. This is why immigration should only be allowed for those who can bring a substantial benefit to the host country. It is perfectly valid for world A to limit world B immigration, especially illegal. After all, wouldn't it be better if world B fixed their own problems first? Not everyone in the galaxy can live on a single planet.

This also fails the prime directive. If the Federation believes that they should not interfere in a world's development, they should clearly understand this world's desire to limit an alien population.

Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend
(2022)

Alton Brown is the star
First thing first - Alton Brown is a God among men. I've loved everything he did on Food TV, and his stint here on Netflix isn't any different. He's a walking encyclopedia of food.

Perhaps because of that, Kristen Kish pales by comparison. She seems out of her depth. I'm not sure she's up to the level of Alton or even the other judges to be on this show. Overall, I like it as much as the other Iron Chef shows. Very entertaining and educational as well.

Reacher
(2022)

Good story, if far fetched
I enjoyed this series. It had the right pacing, plenty of action and a few surprises. The end result was written in stone before the show started, but so is every procedural show on TV so you can't fault the story for that.

The one character I couldn't wrap my head around was Finlay. It simply made no sense he would be hired to be there. If the powers-that-be wanted to maintain control of their secret, they would have never hired an out-of-towner as Police Chief.

A lot of the story was far fetched, but that one was at the core before it even started.

Hannah Gadsby: Nanette
(2018)

I don't want or need a lecture
There are basically two kinds of people. Those who find this funny, and normal people.

The only good thing about this special is it can now help me define who I want to be friends with. It's the perfect acid test to see if you're worthy. If you thought it was funny, then I know you won't have a sense of humor. Bye.

Taken
(2008)

Perfect representation of this genre
Is this a predictable action film? Yes. Are their quotes you can use with friends, ala Terminator? Yes. We have a particular set of skills. Does that take away from the film? No. It's the best representation of its genre - saving your daughter's life - and well worth the watch.

Penguin Town
(2021)

Great all around
Videography, editing, storyline, penguin "families" to root for. I know these documentaries end up shooting hundreds or thousands of hours, but it's the post-processing that makes it come alive. Well done.

Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Backstory!
(2021)
Episode 6, Season 2

True drama for a change
MQ is a funny show, but this isn't one of those episodes. It was however, fantastic from start to finish. Amazing writing, directing and acting. It reminds me of the best of MASH. It's a comedy, but when challenged to do a drama episode, they hold a masterclass. You want drama? Hold my beer.

Captain Fantastic
(2016)

10 for effort. 1 for content.
The fact the family believes in the most inhumane, intolerant and violent evil beliefs while bashing everything "Western" is why this movie fails. If someone were indeed a Maoist, they wouldn't be that way at all. It's like author wants to throw in very anti-establishment philosophy possible without knowing what they mean or how somebody believed those things would act.

Shadow in the Cloud
(2020)

Baby baby
There is no way that baby wouldn't have head injuries or death from all that bouncing around, let alone staying quiet. Even if it is a fantasy movie, that's ridiculous.

Raised by Wolves
(2020)

So good, then so bad.
The people giving it a 9 or 10 must not have finished the show. It doesn't know what it wants to be. The last few episodes were awful.

I think they hired some writers and split them up into two camps. The better group wrote the first 5 episodes. The stupid group wrote the last 5. That's the only explanation.

Space Force
(2020)

Nah
I tried to watch it, loving most of the actors in the show, but it tried to be funny and failed. I felt like it would be a good show to watch in the background, but it barely held my interest.

Tales from the Loop: Control
(2020)
Episode 5, Season 1

Why that?
I think a gun would have been cheaper. There wasn't enough dialogue or plot to explain why he wouldn't have chosen something else.

Mr. Iglesias
(2019)

Too PC
It could have been a good wholesome family comedy, but the constant PC Leftist talking points ruins it.

Three to Tango
(1999)

Very funny!
I can tell from the professional reviews that they didn't get the gist of this movie. It's absolutely hilarious and they tried to analyze it too much. It is not meant to be serious, but just to be enjoyed. Realism doesn't need to be part of every movie, and those parameters do not apply here.

It is perhaps the funniest movie I have seen in awhile, except for American Pie. Everybody liked that movie too, and it was made tongue-in-cheek, just like this movie.

Worth a watch!
