Nomadland
(2020)

Snoozeville
I'm sure there are some good things about this film, but I found it so dull I began to resent it more and more, and was unable to appreciate the good bits.

Jane Austen's Mafia!
(1998)

WOW! This film was f*****g funny!
I was really looking forward to seeing this film last night as I am a huge fan of the Airplanes, Hot Shots, Police Squads, Naked Guns and Top Secret. I found this on lovefilm and thought - why have i never heard of this? I haven't laughed this hard for ages. I admire the filmmakers so much for being so clever and entertaining. The production values are really high as well, everything looks quality and well made. Older films like Airplane etc can look cheap but it adds to their charm, so it was nice to see this modern film which was hardly a blockbuster, made so well and looking like the budget was much higher.

Of course not every joke tickled my funny bone, I could have done without the farting, spewing and when Lloyd Bridges get shot up but people think he's dancing.

But apart from that I found it absolutely hilarious and I can't wait to see it again. Jay Mohr is so great - if you can, watch Action. It's a TV series he did, only one series but it's soooo good! Really funny and totally uncheesy like all American sitcoms feel they have to be. It's about a Hollywood producer.

Anyway, back to Mafia. The writers have worked so hard, not only on the script but the visual gags, injokes and references. I love spotting a funny poster, or something in the credits. Everyone has put so much effort into making this movie the best and the funniest it could be.

I was stunned by the low rating but hey, different strokes for different folks.

If you are reading the comments, deciding whether or not to rent/buy this movie, I definitely think you should - especially if you are a fan of Airplane,Top Secret, Police Squad, Naked Gun, Police Academy and Hot Shots.

Fun Fact! Actor Jay Mohr is allergic to poi

What the hell is poi?

Holes
(2003)

wow!
I recorded this ages ago but only got round to watching it today. I have been ill so had run out of stuff to watch! I am so glad I saw it, and which I could erase my memory and watch i again for the first time. This movie is so wonderful! It reminded me very much of Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Cafe.

The story goes back in time and at the end of the movie we see what the connections are. Some people have said this is a kids movie. I disagree - it may be made by Disney and many characters are children, but I am 23 and I LOVED it! There were moments when my spine tingled. The story is unlike any other film these days, full of adventure. I have just ordered the book from amazon, can't wait!

Harsh Times
(2005)

Wow!
Saw Harsh Times today, mostly because Bale is gorge! and was blown away. Just one problem, and that is the way Freddy and Christians characters talk: "Wassup dawg/dude/homie", it's grating and annoying. There are some truly shocking, out of the blue moments, and not once is this movie clichéd or predictable. I was disappointed that there were only 20 people at the most in the cinema, especially as it's the first day. The way the ending is shot is very impressive and moving, and stayed with me for ages afterwards. There is a lot of unnecessary swearing, but I suppose that is the way Jim and Mike would speak. Also, Jim is supposed to be 26 but looks a lot older. I was so impressed and can't wait for the DVD, although I won't be surprised the second time round. I recommend Harsh Times very highly; it is emotional, violent, realistic, hilarious, thought provoking, traumatic, inspired, entertaining, gripping, original and shocking.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie
(1996)

i laughed so hard my throat hurt the next day!
It was a really boring night and me and my sisters came across this movie. At first I didn't notice the silhouettes at the bottom of the screen. WE had missed the first half unfortunately.

Anyway, it was the best laugh i've had for ages. I just can't describe how blooming funny this film is but we were giggling just about the whole way through!

It's such a clever idea and so well done. I have bought a box set and hope it will be as good.

We had never even heard of the tv series and are not sci-fi fans, but still enjoyed the film very much.

I give it 9 1/2 out of 10, because nothing is perfect!

40 Days and 40 Nights
(2002)

two words - as if!
i wasn't expecting too much from this movie and i suppose it was ok, but one thing that annoyed me sooo much was the bit with the flower. AS IF matt could make erica orgasm by touching her with a flower and blowing a petal over her knickers! yeah ok, we get the point, he's not allowed to touch her because of his stupid vow, but that scene was absolutely ridiculous. I was also very uncomfortable with the bit where his girlfriend has sex with him while he is asleep (and it is so unrealistic that he could come without waking up!) another point, his friend puts a UV lamp on his bed to check for 'fluids', but he could easily have masturbated in the toilet or something! Anyway, rant over!

Coming to America
(1988)

This is sooo in my all time top ten!
I am watching Coming To America now, and i haven't seen it for ages and I am SO happy! Murphy is so charming and funny, and it is hysterical when they dress up as other people! if you are reading this you have probably already seen the film, if not i highly recommend it. it is intelligent, emotional, and one of the funniest films ever not to resort to silly gags and gross out humour. Unfortunately no video shops i have been to stock it,but you can always get it on the net. Samuel L Jackson, Eriq La Salle and Cuba Gooding Jr also appear in supporting roles from before they were famous. This film is faultless, appeals to all ages and races, and will leave you with a big dopey grin on your face!

The Boy in the Plastic Bubble
(1976)

I would have cried if i was by myself
Spoiler Alerrt So, me and some mates were bored and my friend wanted to watch this movie, and i thought it sounded terrible, especially when 'produced by Aaron Spelling' came up on the screen! But, i gave it a go, and by the end i was so glad I'd stuck it out. At first it had a TV movie feel about it, and the early 70's technicolor didn't help. But the powerful performances by Travolta and his mum made it stand out from the rest. The plot itself is quite dreary, and the fashion (especially todds orange suit) were hilarious! But by the end we were all rooting for him to step out and go get his girl!

Some people have complained in their comments that there should have been a definite ending, but personally i think it was a brave decision to leave it open ended. The beauty of this movie is the uncertainty of todds future, Think about it, if they showed us what happened next, would you still remember the film today? He could have died, but in my head, todd has enough immunities built up over the years to survive. He and the girl marry and have kids, who are perfectly healthy, and when new drugs are invented for AIDS victims, he becomes an astronaut!

Supergirl
(1984)

Camp as Butlins and a great soundtrack to boot!
This movie is definitely one of my favorites of all time! Helen Slater is gorgeous as the titular superheroine - a great role model for a girl to have. Faye Dunaway chews the scenery as the gloriously camp Selena and thespian Peter O'Toole brings a touch of sophistication as Zaltar. The soundtrack to this movie is FANTASTIC - Jerry Goldsmith is a G-d and his CV has to be seen to be believed. I would recommend the Supergirl CD to any classical music lovers out there. My favourite scene is when Supergirl is flying over Chicago looking for the Omegahedron - the beautiful aerial scenery is just breathtaking, and paired with Goldsmith's score is nothing short of beautiful. Coming is a close second is the 'aerial ballet' scene where Supergirl lands on Earth and discovers her powers. Supergirl's transformation to her alter ego Linda Lee is amazing - much more effective than putting on a pair of glasses and slicking your hair back, like her cousin Superman. For a long time I thought they were played by 2 different actresses! (Well, I was only 5!) Unfortunately the special effects leave much to be desired, but it WAS the '80's I suppose. If you're willing to suspend your disbelief slightly then you will enjoy this movie as much as I do. The one scene I hate is when Supergirl meets two would be rapists. She soon has them lying in a crumpled heap on the floor, but it has a dark and disturbing tone that is out of joint and unsettling. In conclusion, this movie is brilliant and I love it!
