Agria neiata
(1982)

worth watching, but dated
Very melodramatic and already hopelessly dated, this drama about "wild youth" in Greece, who don't have much future. One just got out of jail and wants to start all over, but society doesn't seem to let him. Another one is a pretty good boxer and wants to start a career in boxing, but his father wants him to work in his garage. (the boxing scenes are very exaggerated, with lots of blood and boxers knocked down almost every round. Maybe inspired by "Rocky"?) The film probably wasn't made with a lot of money, as you can clearly see in the boxing scenes. Despite of all its weaknesses, the director Nikos Foskolos proves to be a very good storyteller. The characters and the story never get boring.

I found that the dated dress code, the melodramatic way of acting and the cliches in the movie had a certain "campy" charm. Worth watching.

fun but at times boring light comedy
This comedy about a retired general who keeps his personal little army of five daughters is fun especially in the first 30 minutes. Orestis Makris is very credible and funny as the general and the other characters are quite loveable.

However, the interesting theme of foreign (modern) influences in the Greek (old-fashioned) society in the 1950s hasn't been worked out that well. But then again, it's meant to be a light comedy. There are also some very nice comedy ideas, like the flowerpot-throwing thing.

enjoyable Aliki movie
An enjoyable Aliki Vougiouklaki comedy, with the usual song, dance and romance. The dance scene on the beach is particularly fun. However the film is of course dated and the story isn't original, so it is probably enjoyable only for people interested in Greek popular cinema and/or Aliki.

Donusa

beautiful dark drama
Beautiful, rather dark drama about a young German photographer who visits a small Greek island and falls in love with a local young woman. Troubles arise afterwards...

The young woman reminded me of Irene Papas in "Alexis Zorba".
