I totally agree with who noticed big inspirations to Dostoyevsky's books. I just read one of them, the double, but I studied about the others. Watching the movie it came to my mind immediately, I liked that book! Anyway, it is usually a trouble for a movie to be inspired from a book, more if it is transported to a modern period, it is impossible to be compared to a good book you loose, but here no risk has be paid, it just use the idea of "some" books of the same author and play a story a part, so it doesn't need to be compared, well done. I am disappointed indeed with the Italian title. The translation of "l'uomo senza sonno" is something like "the man who doesn't sleep". OK, he really doesn't sleep since one year but in my opinion it didn't get the point, it has a secondary role, I don't know how to explain, ti is just a consequence. I mean, if the director have chosen this title is OK (i.e. Insomnia), but he chose another one so I don't understand why to change it. I know that everybody say that and that it is obvious, but Bale was incredibly skinny, I don't know how is possible. Kilos a part his interpretation was really good. To me, the problem of this movie is that was not long enough. It could seems a no sense, usually there is the contrary problem. I think that a longer movie give the possibility to remark a stronger anguish. I just "feel" it sometimes, and when pathos is growing it is going to be concluded. Maybe I am masochist, but I have preferred to feel anguish more.

It had a lot of nominees for David of Donatello, fortunately it didn't win anyone, it might be an insult to Italian cinema. It is the summer of three friend just after last high-school's exam, they go to Santorini island, in Greece. the plot is very banal, there are different ways to see the life and the future for each of these guys, they meet girls and living this experience they grow up, they start having fun and no more and then they learn to have important decision for their life, they learn their responsibilities. I tried to be objective for the plot, finding what director wanted to show, aren't we tired of this plots? I guess not everybody is tired, watching to the box-office, but I am. Probably they wanted to imitate hollywoodian teen movies putting a piece of Italian culture, but the mix doesn't show us anything new. It is just a happy movie with a banal happy end politically correct. Full of these pathetic mystic crisis, about love, about friendship, family, future and so on. bad interpretation for most of the actors, above all Violante Placido and Muccino, constant same music that become obsessive, it's good just the location...obviously!

Principally it is the story of two men who were part of the Portuguese revolution. It was easy to understand the contest, but usually directors starts from a historical fact to speak about something else, or they shows also the period before or after this fact, here everything happen during that couple of days when the revolution acts. It could also be seen as a kind of documentary. The movie focalize to these two people, showing as normal they were, not like common heroes, because the revolution come from people. Although it was made from military army from the title you can understand that they were just "capitaes" as the main characters. Nice colors and lights during the whole movie, excellent work for the director being her first movie, she doesn't fall to the banal way. Well shown emotions and passion of people and crowd. The character of Maia (main one)is well-made and there is also a good interpretation for Stefano Accorsi, able to show Maia's limits, this not-being an hero.

It's a pity, I still ask me how is it possible to waste such a brilliant idea. From the beginning, the plot catch you, it seems twisted (it is), but easy to understand, and it is effective. Going on it fall into the banality, always worse going to the end. It seems like they had this starting idea, but they were not able to evolve it for the rest of the movie, so it remain as an embryo. It become obvious and often pathetic. The only message escapes is the classic and obvious:"if you want to change the future it could be worse". Another problem: actors! Incredibly not able to act, Kutcher (I don't know if famous in the States) is not "strong" enough to have such a responsibility, Amy Smart is beauty, but just that, Melora Walters is always crying, very far from the good interpretations with P.T.Andersson. Somebody compare it to "Donnie Darko". No way! Another World!

This movie is not a surprise for people saw "L'imbalsamatore" from the same director, because piece of geniality were present also there. This movie is wonderful, watching it you are satisfy for the choice. The story is incredible, because, as the title say, it speak about love, about two person that meat each other and fall in love, but it is not so simple. The strange love between them is out of mind, and what is incredible to me is the easy way that the watcher understand this love In fact, in my opinion, it should be very hard to take all the parts and reason of this strange love, and Garrone is able to let understand both position. Even if the men position is mentally sick you can realize his position and I think it is because of Garrone. Landscapes and locations are very good, and the perfection of light and color are not new because of the previous movie. Good choice also for the two actors, the man is totally inside the character, the girl really lost weight during shots, that's crazy but ideal for the movie. The music gives the correct atmosphere that's why won same awards. I wonder why these products remain in Italy and is not exported usually it go just to France and Germany but no more.....why? I am proud of this kind of Italian cinema and I would like to know what the foreigners think.

I really disagree with some American comments here, maybe just because I am European, I don't know, but anyway I liked that movie. It is stupid to think that Wenders wanted to represent into the main character a typical American, obviously it is just an extreme position about the fear of anything (common in USA), but it doesn't reflex the society, it is a product of it. It doesn't take a wonderful picture of USA, but at the same time it doesn't distruct it, it want just show the paradoxes of that land, it want to be watched like the "land of plenty" and it is not, but it doesn't mean to be the hell. I understand when Americans find only cliché inside, but some of them are true, your country has fear mania, not all of you but some. In Italy as well we say that everybody dislike Berlusconi, but he is prime minister. But now it's time to speak about the movie: it is nice, characters' work is well-made and elaborated, Location are incredible, they show another USA, different from other movies. I didn't like Michelle Williams because of dowson's creek, but here she is not bad, her character is understood by people, but I think it is the work of Wim.

There are movies that are just a different version of another one, not remakes, but just similar to others, it is not. Although it talks about Mafia it is watched in another way and often it seems just a secondary theme. I went to watch that movie for case (because the otherone's theatre was full) and I was satisfied at the end. It surprised me, because of its black irony or cynicism and there are more and more interesting items to analyze. It doesn't follow the classical ways of movies, it is just different and I think not to be the only one to like that. I am very happy also because it is Italian, and I was afraid that Italian directors and producers were not enough brave to change themes. In this movie you can watch new Italian style as well, but is not blocked into clichés. I hope to be understandable enough, I know it is difficult, I hope also that this movie can be exported out of our frontiers, it is a good product to export. I want to point out also the music, very good soundtrack, the movie needs it because of its long silent pause and they are covered perfectly by that music. Many compliments to the director, and thank you, cinema needs these movies.

As you probably know it is a story of a group of brothers and their mother, it talks about different view of relationship, sex and so on. It has many points, the story goes on fluently, the atmosphere is cured, actors works really good, they export very well emotions and the entire movie as well. The only problem I found is quite basic: it is a normal, classical Italian movie! I'm not talking about Fellini & co.'s movies, but the last decade of movies from my country. They tell us the story of reletionship, familiar problem, real emotions and more. OK, sometimes it is not so bad, like this one indeed, but it seems every time the sequel of a previous movie of this typology. DADIE

I am right now in front of the tv, watching Casomai. It is changing, it id evolving or better...devolving. It begin with a courius wedding of the two protagonists where their love-story is reported. After that everything change, a child was born, and all the rest usually happen in a couple. It is a not a special movie because it talks about a normal couple, and normality is the center of this movie. It doesn't want to show us something particular, there is nothing new, it is just a normal love-story, the story of a couple, and being normal it become different from the rest. It is also a flashing movie, everything is short, every scene is long just some seconds. It is a reported story, many things are known because friends and parents talk about that, and their opinion is central, the opinions create the story and destroy it. It is a simple story of a couple as I said, but it is not boring, it just show a couple, should be everything known, it is, but I am sure that every one of you will want to know what happen, so don't forget to watch the end!

I think the destiny let me watch that movie. I have seen another movie of the same director, I was impressed of it, I saw also, here in Imdb, that Requiem for a dream was appreciated by users and somebody else told me many good things about it, so I wanted to watch it, but it was not easy to be found. Very strangely, once, I read the program of a satellite tv channel never watched and (surprise) Requiem for a dream was there that night. The expectations have not been disappointed, it is a great movie. At the beginning you don't feel too much, everything seems normal (to be a movie). Step by step it let you feel the same emotions of characters, every one, and unfortunately they are bad emotions. After having watched this movie you feel very bad, something remain in you stomach, it is incredible. The director is able to let you enter in the mentality of a disturbed mind, disturbed by drugs, but it could be anything else that give dependency. Everything is secondary, dignity, family, love and life as well, to find what they need is the priority. Wonderful use of music, it interpret the anguish of imagines. The director is incredible using imagines mixed quickly, to make credible the dream-reality mix created in character's minds. If you haven't watched it yet do it, but don't go to bed just after, it will be difficult to sleep, you should watch another movie or go outside thinking something else. It is a straordinary movie, It have to be seen, it is a good example of the art of cinema.

As many of you I have seen the first one, cube, and of course I liked it a lot. It was a simple movie, technically, but full of ideas, very interesting, real emotions, there was that curious sociological aspect. Hypercube is the complete opposite, it has a visible bigger budget, but it was used badly. The story's base is obviously good, just because it come from the first episode, but the plot was developed in a horrible way. Interesting was to try to express the four dimentional idea, the result is nothing. Too space to stupid action, not to relations between characters, useless special effects, empty plot, empty dialogues and more and more. As I said it was a big delusion like many other sequels. It is just a way to take advantage of a success, they invest money taking care of special effects and not to the artistic side. TO change the director was the error, maybe, anyway it is for sure a bad done work.

Many friends of mine suggested to watch it, unfortunately I succeeded to do it very late and I am sorry because it is a very good movie. It is something new, good idea, nice story, completely different from usual targets. It could be seen as a poem, it is quite unreal, but it let us feel a nice dream. The story is a piece of geniality and cinema needed it. I don't want to describe scenes or to say the plot, I want just to offer the possibility to anyone who didn't watch it to do it as soon as possible. Malkovich is one of my favourite actor and here is brilliant also because he take joke of himself. Good interpretation from John Cusack, while a surprise could be Cameron Diaz, but who watched `Last supper' can understand that sometimes (rarely) she can take part of a well done movie. The story is simple and maybe classic: a country-town, workers and an american factory that is going to be closed, workers and town-mates fight to evade it. The plot doesn't matter because in the center of all we have the life, the real life, not the retoric and fake one but the life lived. Friendship, love, cooperation are the protagonists, people are protagonists, character are not. It is a real story, not a real movie story. There aren't heros either particular dramatic moment. The event can make everything tragic but the movie remain something similar to a comedy.

Somebody say that it is a classical italian movie about Mafia, but I'm sure that `I cento passi'is something more. It talks about the real story of Peppino Impastato. Peppinpo was a boy who lived in a small village in Sicily in the 70's. After his grandfather's murder he knew a printer who was communist and becoming communist and through he tried to fight the Mafia and the boss in particular, because he was the mandant of grandfather's murder. `I cento passi' means ` 100 steps' which was the distance between his home and the boss' house. He was killed by dynamite the same day of Moro's murder (a famous italian politician) but the police said that it was an accident. It is a real story and it make you thing how the pawer is dangerous but also how is important the bravery.

It isn't a Pieraccioni's movie. Yes, he play in that movie and he write something about that movie but he is not the director, and so it is different from the other Pieraccioni's movies, but it is funny , not like the other, but it has got a nice story too. It is not a classical italian movie but it is a mix between italian and "holliwoodian" movie!!

EAST IS EAST… Really nice movie!!! It have been a surprise for me, I didn't expect a strange movie like that. It underline the problem between two different religion but above all between two different culture. In my opinion it is strange also because the director mixed funny and quite-tragic situation bravely and he achieved success. It was a good new and young cast without particular experience it passed the test. I like it also because it doesn't pass through the hollywood way and in this period it is not easy!!! DADIE
