I Feel Pretty
(2018)

Fanboi reviews not allowed!
Just a brief look will show you that the majority of positive reviews say that anyone with a negative review is a hater, liar and shouldn't be considered. That's the cancel culture in all it's glory. A person's opinion isn't invalid just because you don't like it. Worry about your own words rather than telling others who consider and who to ingnore.

I Feel Pretty is not a good movie. Am Schumer has spent her career trying to prove that it doesn't matter if she's overweight and not pretty... while doing everything she can to convince people she is the opposite. This opinion is apparently "sassy" and "keeping pace with the time" but it's simply a lie.

You can say looks don't matter but they do. Trying to force the culture to "redefine beauty" isn't going to succeed because certain sets of features and shapes convey the message of "good breeding partner" and there isn't anything to be done about it. It doesn't matter that it's "unfair" just as it doesn't matter that it's "unfair" that some people are very smart or star athletes. You can believe all day long, that you can be a star hurdler and you can get support from all the other wanna-be hurdlers but in the end, it is what it is. Suck it up.

Animal abuse
I really didn't care for this movie too much. The animal abuse is pretty hard to watch. Jet Li's character is not very sympathetic and comes off more like a boy having a tantrum. The fight scenes were pretty good and I can't fault the choreography but it seems like, compared to some other films, that there were fewer actual fights than average.

Not a fan
When these types of movies are all a variation of the transgression, training montage and revenge theme it comes down to the fight scenes that stand out. Other than the fact that I really don't need to see a rape this movie has two big problems:

1. The hero goes from a student to a master in one year, with no master of his own, by wearing weighted anklets and sticking his hands in hot iron pellets.

2. The fight scenes are very slow, the sound effects are poor, the choreography is such that you can see every telegraphed blow. Due to the liberal use of fire engine red paint to spew from everyone's mouth it's a case of the first or second hit ends the fight. Unfortunately the fight scenes are very long so all you hear (other than the mass fights) is a whole bunch of misses.

I didn't really enjoy this movie and probably won't watch it again.

Swingtown
(2008)

Definitely fun to watch
I won't tell you that the acting is stellar or that the plot lines are deep but that hasn't affected my enjoyment of this show. Personally I haven't watched an offering from a major network in the last five years that I considered worth my time and attention.

Swingtown has broken that streak in that it is simply fun to watch the collision of different personalities and moralities which happened during this time in our history. Plus, the music is great and the look/feel really allows my suspension of disbelief to take hold and transport me back to the 70s.

Don't knock it till you try it :)!

What the #$*! Do We (K)now!?
(2004)

Genre: Comedy / Drama (more)
Well it's obvious from all of the comments posted here that the majority of people HATED this movie. What I think they fail to acknowledge is that this is NOT a documentary, it's not a film shown to your high school science students and it's not a serious attempt at explaining any scientific concepts using the standard scientific method.

IT IS A MOVIE! A Comedy/Drama fable created for entertainment and to provoke thought. I think the movie does a fantastic job at provoking thought, getting people interested in other points of view and generally just expanding our point of reference.

I have NEVER found a book (religious or otherwise), movie or play that dealt with these types of concepts that seemed even close to 100pct accurate. There were things in this movie I didn't buy but there are things in the bible that I don't buy. On the other hand there are MANY concepts, ideas and views presented in this movie that I DO find interesting, compelling and thought provoking.

I enjoyed watching this movie and so did my wife. Perhaps we weren't influenced by the marketing of this movie as some folks seem to be, we didn't even see a trailer.

If you can leave your attachments behind and just view this film as an experience then you might just enjoy it.

Eyes Wide Shut
(1999)

I don't get the praise, this film was lame
Ok if you liked it that's great and I'm glad you didn't waste your money. I found this film to be boring, badly acted and annoying. Maybe if you find all that "sexual titilation" stuff exciting then perhaps I could understand it but it seemed pretty tame to me. Definately a thumbs down.

Almost Famous
(2000)

It's all happening...
This movie made me feel and feel strongly. When a film is able to involuntarily force an emotional response it will always be high on my list. There are many reasons for loving this film. The performances are amazing, the feel is authentic and the score is an emotional paint brush. Even so it is the ability of the actors and the director to put you "in the moment" that makes this a film I will never grow tired of watching.

Vote of 10. Highest Recommendation.

Bounce
(2000)

Completely predictable and painful to watch
About 2 minutes into this movie I was predicting the next 30 to my wife. There isn't a moment in this movie that you can't see coming from a mile away. The performances are dry, the chemistry between Ben and Gwen is nonexistant and the plot would have been better suited for a soap opera than a feature length picture. Thumbs down.

Waking Life
(2001)

I am not at all surprised that so many people hated this movie..
..just as I am not surprised that Jerry Springer is popular and that the average person in today's society recoils in pain when asked to consider ANYTHING outside their own reality tunnel. This movie is NOT FOR YOU main stream American. Just stay away and you'll be happier... especially you so called "intellectuals" who are above it all.

For those one percenters out there who don't mind altering there reality tunnel, perception, point of view, etc this will be an amazing experience. Definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen and I wanted to immediately purchased it once the DvD was available.

Just understand that you need to be able to loosen that rock hard grip of control over your own reality and let the director take up the reins for 90 minutes. Watch it from the inside and you won't be sorry.

Cats & Dogs
(2001)

On my top 5 worst movies list
This movie was absolutely moronic. It wasn't funny, it wasn't cute and it wasn't even able to entertain our ten year old. Even renting this on video is a waste of money, your much better off with more standard family movies. This is strictly a personal opinion and I'm sure others will have different views.

Groove
(2000)

Ride the wave...
I loved this movie, plain and simple. The subject matter is near and dear to me and this film does an excellent job conveying "the vibe" that is so unique to the "rave" scene.

The director has done a great job walking the tightrope between reality and cinema to produce a journey so like a real night of partying that I was tempted to get up from my couch at 11pm on a sunday night and head into San Fran to seek and find...

I highly recommend this film for anyone that leans lightly or heavily to the side of unity, expression, freedom and exaltation.

Wo hu cang long
(2000)

Not to be missed!
Beg, borrow or steal a ticket to this wonderfully fantastic film, you won't be sorry.

The plot is extremely well done, not what you'd expect of a martial arts films but none the less well written and perfectly executed.

The fight scenes were also done very well. At times I wished for better lighting as several of the best fight scenes were filmed in a "night" setting but overall each sequence was beautifully laid out.

What also sets this film apart is the intense scenic beauty. Many of the scenes are wide sweeping shots that show off the great choice of location.

Check this out as soon as you can!

Unbreakable
(2000)

Great filming, lousy ending
This film kept me hooked even though it plodded exceedingly slowly through the development of Bruce Willis' character as a potential superhuman hero type.

The film was shot well and the interaction between Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson definitely kept me interested.

So what's with the lamo ending? No film that is shot with such drama and build up should end with a bunch of text across the screen doing the wrap up.

WEAK ENDING and pretty much spoiled what was, until then a very long build up.

American History X
(1998)

Great minds think for themselves...
There are alot of themes in this movie... Racism, Violence,Hate, Love, Family but it seems to me that there is one message that shouldn't be missed when watching this movie.

NEVER, EVER, EVER let someone else do your thinking for you. This movie demonstrates just how easy it is for lost, hurt and needy people to be led into something they really don't want and don't believe in.

Edward Norton has quickly become one of my favorite actors based not only on his outstanding dramatic skill but by his choice of films. He wants to send a message and he does it brilliantly with this film.

Le Cinquième Élément
(1997)

Today's frog will be tomorrow's PRINCE...
I saw this movie in the theater and HATED IT! I mean I couldn't STAND this movie and had added it to my movie death list.

Fortunately for me I was in an alternate state of mind one night when this came on cable.... thank goodness.

This movie is frickin HILARIOUS! I figure that I must have hated it the first time because the TV ads described it as a Star Wars type movie.

No chance this is a blatant comedy and Chris Tucker steals the show as Ruby Rod. I must have about 20 Ruby Rod waves on my PC right now.

Check it out and be ready to laugh.

Dark City
(1998)

This movie was LAME!
Yes, here you have it a world controlled by Aliens who can do ANYTHING....

Yet a person is running away from them and they chase him with a floating knife and he gets away. Gimme a break! There was NO character development, boring dialog and a plot that probably should have been saved for a 10 page comic book.

There was nothing nail biting or scary about this. There was no intrigue and there was no message. I keep feeling like I was in that fake city at the end of every episode of Mr Rogers Neighborhood but someone had turned the lights down a bit.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out why anyone would like this movie, even after reading all the reviews.

If I could give this movie a negative score I would but baring that it's definitely a 1 out of 10.

Fight Club
(1999)

You are not what you consume
I thought Fight Club was a fantastic movie. I put off watching it for a long time because I hadn't heard anything about it and figured it was some stupid boxing movie.

Boy was I in for a shock...

Fight Club is not about violence. Fight Club is not about boxing. Fight Club is about ideas. About the ideas that kill the mind and the spirit. About the ideas that can change a person from a puppet to a creation of their own universe.

Watch it. If you don't get it, watch it again. Open your mind and consider that there is something in this film that is speaking to you, listen hard, hear it. You won't be sorry.

Roadside Prophets
(1992)

Great food for your head
This is definitely one of those kick back in your sofa, light up and flow movies. The subdued plotline is warm and insightful and the many cameos in this movie are always a surprise waiting around the next corner.

If you are walking the path or surfin the wave like some of the rest of us, check this movie out.

Pure Country
(1992)

A simple love story in a beautiful setting. Thumbs up.
Pure Country is a warm and wholesome story about a big time country singer that returns to his roots for some personal growth and romance.

This is just one of those movies that I HAVE to watch every time it comes on cable or TV because I know I'll feel better about life in general when the show is done.

If you are adverse to the country lifestyle, country music and the scenery of Texas then this movie isn't for you.
