Speed Racer
(2008)

Great Movie: Integration of computers and nostalgia is genius
Totally fascinating movie. When I first sat down to watch it, I was concerned it would mess with my memory of the old classic cartoon. Nothing could be further from the truth! While highly computerized, there was also that campy atmosphere. At times, it felt like a movie about the 60's with all the bright colors and interesting clothing patterns. Even the camera shots of the villain racers and the way the villain racers were portrayed gave homage to 60's/70's action flicks...not to mention some of the fight scenes which were sort of James Bondish.

The story was also great. Yea, I am one of those cliché people, I guess, but I loved the messages about standing up for what you believe in, not giving up, doing what is right, etc.

I loved the show as a child and was determined to see this movie while in my zone (that means alone). I snuck off from work early while the hubby was still at work and while the children were in school and at the sitters to get my full enjoyment of the movie.

Something New
(2006)

Entertaining and Refreshing
This movie was quite refreshing. As one other poster stated, it had some formulas in it, but did not rely on them. I love romantic comedies, and to see one that really has not been done before, was truly engaging. To me, "Guess Who" was not really like "Something New" because the two lead characters were already involved from the beginning. But SN shows the the process of a black female and white male falling in love.

I don't know what was with some of the earlier posters who described this moving as written by and portraying self hating black women. Wow, those comments totally missed the mark. There were parts in the movie that actually speak to this kind of thinking..i.e. Kenya's father stating that people get up tight about interracial dating like they are some pure race that should not be diluted, when the fact of the matter is, we are all mixed. Also one of the negative postings mentioned how when Kenya was with Mark (the Blair Underwood character), she had the perfect man who was proud of his race, culture, etc...Did this person miss the part in the movie where Mark saw the picture of her with the "long hair" and suggested she "grow it out" when in fact, he was admiring a long, straight, fake weave? But earlier in the movie Brian (Simon Baker's character) wanted to see what she looked like without the weave and was even more attracted to her without it. Ironic, huh.

At the end of the day, we are all responsible for our happiness, and if that, in part, means being attracted to someone of a different race, regardless of the reason, so be it. Someone's true pride in their race should not cause them to be disturbed by those who choose to date outside of it. Even though interracial relationships are on the rise, there are still plenty of folks who choose to date within their own race anyway, so why all the dramatic lambasting?

The Doodlebops
(2004)

Pee Wee's Play House, Meet Wiggles, Meet Bay City Rollers...
...those are my observations and I like the combination! Catchy tunes, good lessons, fun, bright and colorful. My daughter seems to like them, and seems to get a big kick when I get up and dance to the opening theme and "Get on the Bus" song. My husband has yet to be sold though, but there is nothing wrong with the show. If the biggest complaint one has is that it borrows from other shows, then it is doing something right. For those of you old enough, am I the only one who is reminded of the Bay City Rollers when looking at Moe? And what about the talking Moose, talking marionette heads? Anyone else get nostalgia for Pee Wee Herman? I am reminded of the Wiggles by the theme of always looking for Moe in the beginning...similar to waking up Jeff on the Wiggles on every episode.

Bad Santa
(2003)

It Really Is Bad
Yes, this movie is R rated for a reason. Yes, I knew not to expect a traditional feel good movie. But sorry, to me, this movie was bad and unredeemable. I went to this movie expecting the cussing, expecting the sexual content, and expecting some very bad characters. However, all the cussing, sex, drunkeness, etc seemed gratuious to the point of making it all unbelievable. I am one of those people who happens to like unbelieavable and unrealistic movies, as long as the movie is entertaining and good. This was not.

What made the movie so unbelievable was not that the Santa character (Billy Bob) was a drunken, deplorable, sleaze (good acting by the way Billy Bob), but that he would last one second in a Dept store, interacting with children while acting and looking the way he did! With the media being the way it is today, there should have been a scene in the movie where the news did a segment on the bad santa at some point (that is what happened here in my home town in real life, except for this actual person did all his bad stuff while off of Santa Duty).

There were some funny things and some scenes I could not help but to laugh at. But that does not make me rank it as a good movie. Let's say I by far cringed more in the movie than I did laugh. My husband debated leaving during the movie, but we paid too much money on it (not to mention our food) to just get up and leave.

100 Girls
(2000)

2nd Time Around
I had to scan the imdb for other users who realized this was the exact same movie as Eight Days A Week, to make sure I was not inadvertently plagiarizing someone else's comment. Several others commenting on the imdb noticed the same thing.

The screen writer of this movie made good use of his work...he used the same screen play twice! Take one movie you made, but change the character from a high school student to a college one, use the same voice over technique, use the same dialogue but change some of it around and have a thesaurus handy, even add a friend who is obsessed with doing odd things to his genitalia and voicing his perspectives regarding women, and what do you get? Two teen/young adult movies for the work of one!

I found both movies enjoyable though. So I am not necessarily criticizing his work. Heck, I might be even a little jealous that he was able to sale the same screen play twice. I guess we all have done it at one time or another...take some work for school or work and use it as a template for some other work without being very original the second time around. But again, I more or less liked the movie, or both, movies, which is really the same movie. Yikes!!! What does that say about me?

Hysterical Blindness
(2002)

A Real Feel Good Movie!
Aha, I got your attention with the subject line, right! Well, when I watched the movie, I felt good that I never acted like the characters played by Uma Thurman and Juliette Lewis. That is what I mean by a feel good movie:0)

Anyway, the movie got a lot more criticism than it deserved! But the imdb is all about opinions anyway, so here is mine: The writers and producers were not trying to make this some big motion picture, but something for light entertainment (trite, as some people interpreted it). I think it was a nice project for Uma and Juliette, having been in a wide range of movies. I would like to know what the two actresses ever did to jackjack-2 for him to call them such unnecessary and harsh names! They are just actresses for crying out loud. And billcody's comment is right on target, where the heck is the Bon Jovi? The movie just screamed for their music, concert shirt, poster, or something Bon Jovi-isque to appear as a prop.

I look for some sort of associations in most movies because ***CLICHÉ ALERT***art imitates life, to some degree, much of the time. Some viewers found Uma's and Juliette's characters unrealistic, but I've seen young middle-class college women, beyond the 1980's, act like that at frat parties. So it's not really about being lower class or what people typically perceive as "trashy". ***PREACHY ALERT***Remember, there is always the "other side" to what you have done or had the opportunity to observe, even within your own socio-economic level. Just because you personally never experienced or seen it, does not mean it isn't realistic.

My favorite scenes in the movie ***SPOILER ALERT*** are when 1) Uma comes home after she ultimately humiliated herself in the bar near the end and crawled in bed with her mom for consolement; 2)The very next scene, she comes home from work (I guess), on a bright summer day; looking more refreshed and alert than any other part of the movie, to a surprise of all new furniture that her mom saved up for. I especially like when the camera pans around the room and you get a brief glance of a childhood framed picture of Uma's character, and she and her mom sit on the furniture and talk. Very sweet scene. I sort of felt like she had, or was, moving beyond her past and getting some dignity.***CORNY CLICHE ALERT***that which does not kill you makes you stronger.

Definitely a movie to see if you want to contemplate what all is going on in the characters' minds beyond the obvious. I guess I thoroughly enjoyed it because I had pity and hope for the characters.

One Eight Seven
(1997)

Grippingly Realistic
This movie is fantastic. PSUEDO SPOILER: I love happy endings and definitely did not get one here. But it was a great movie nonetheless.

Actors don't get much better than Samuel L. Jackson…that is a given. It is emotionally moving (and draining) to see a character portrayed by Jackson so well: A teacher that wants to do nothing other than teach as a profession, even at the sacrifice of his own life. A previous viewer paralleled Jackson's character to Christ.

For those who found the movie unrealistic and predictable, now hear this…some students DO threaten teachers and mean every bit of it; some students DO attempt to demean substitute teachers; some students DO initiate physical confrontations with teachers; the administration DOES NOT ALWAYS back up the teachers the way it should. Now of course there are teachers who abuse their power too. It just seems that the `wrong doer' (whether student or teacher) is often more successful at twisting things in their own favor because they do it so much and have the practice that `on the level people' lack.

One does not necessarily need to look at New York City, LA or even any metropolis schools to see similar situations. These types of situations occur across our country in many schools (inner city, urban, middle working class, suburban, etc.). Remember Columbine Colorado High School in 1999 and other similar incidents? And might I add that the Trench Coat Mafia was not a Chicano gang. The good thing is that this sort of thing does not occur in every school or all of the time. But it happens enough to be recognized and explored on film.

I've always believed teachers to be miserably underpaid. Consider the part in the beginning of the movie (in the NYC school) when Trevor first receives the threat of death and goes to the principal who only laughs and dismisses him as being a paranoid man who thinks his teaching is actually received! What a BIG slap in the face for someone who has a passion of his or her job. Truth be told: supervisors can be this unsupportive and uncaring too.

The Glass Shield
(1994)

Remarkable Depiction of what has, and what can happen
The movie sends a good message. As clichéd as it sounds: Absolute power corrupts absolutely. As other viewers have noted, this movie is low budget and not overtly action packed. But it does showcase very well what can happen when trying to fit in: Loosing sight of what is right and wrong, then trying to do what is right and getting penalized for it from different directions. Many movies do an awesome job in telling a tale. This is one of them. The message of being drunk with power and corruption among peers is something that is not only seen in the law enforcement institutions, but in the corporate and higher education areas as well. It just appears that corruption is more harmful in law enforcement because there is the higher probability that people may become physically and psychologically damaged (on the deepest level) as a result of corrupt people misusing their guns, badges, and utmost authority). The movie is more likely to hit home for someone who is female and/or a minority who has had some in-depth exposure to law enforcement. While many police officers are, for the most part, decent and on the level, I would say that EVERY law enforcement agency has some level of corruption occurring. The corruption can be a lone officer or two belittling citizens unjustifiably (and getting away with it), or a group of them who systematically abuse power. Perhaps a film like this would be worth mandatory viewing for new police recruits. There is something in it for everyone. Not only is there the lesson of how wrong and nasty discrimination is (especially in groups), but there is also the lesson of your own well meaning, however wrong actions, coming back to haunt you. And finally there is the lesson of how harassment, alienation and adversity are often used as cruel weapons in attempts get others to conform to wrongdoing.

Bob and Margaret
(1993)

EXTREMELY FUNNY and INTELLIGENTLY WRITTEN!!!
Wow, I must say that I was shocked to see that the majority of my fellow Yanks, who commented on the series, had mostly negative things to say about it. I don't know about them, but I certainly "dug" the cartoon. How I wish it was on DVD, but at least it is on VHS since Comedy Central isn't showing it anymore. I could totally relate to this series: Reluctantly going over an acquaintance's house, taking a cheap bottle of wine, being bored, longing for home; Going to a supermarket and getting out of the line you were in to get in one that seemed faster just to be held up for eons of time; so forth.

I miss watching this show. It was a Sunday night ritual for me. It depicted a typical couple in many ways. While I've always loved the Simpsons and find South Park humorous, Bob and Margaret is indeed different, but in a unique way and it is very good! I'd hate to think fellow sitcom enthusiasts from other parts of the world think most Americans lack the depth and open-mindedness to get this kind of humor due to what a few of them wrote on IMDB. Many of my friends and co-workers (also fellow Yanks) enjoyed it also. Any more fellow Americans wish to make a positive comment about the show?

The Legend of Boggy Creek
(1972)

SPOOKY
This movie is not horrifying but it is indeed spooky. And something simply spooky often has a bigger effect than something horrifying because of the power of imagination and the wonder of the unknown. SPOILER ALERT: Imagine running through the woods all happy go lucky only to stop short of running into a huge hairy creature, staring dead at you as if expecting you! Imagine someone telling you they saw something spooky and doubting them because they are young imaginative children, only to turn to walk away and look dead at the thing, just a few short feet away from you! Imagine sitting around a home with friends at night (I'm sure everyone can relate to this), hearing noises, and upon looking out the window expecting to see nothing, you instead see someone, or something, standing a few feet away looking right at YOU!!! Or better yet, imagine sitting by a window, hoping a night of creepy sights and sounds is over (including something trying to turn a door knob to enter your home), only to have a hairy arm pop through a window and moments later, through a bathroom window as you are trying to take care of some personal business (one of my worse fears of all time)!!! These are all pretty creepy things; "Boogie Man" type fears in the minds of most young children as well as many adults. Some critics pointed out how the movie was not scary due to the fakeness of the creature. I don't know about them, but I'd be spooked by someone creeping around my house, turning my door knobs and popping their arms through my windows even if it was just a guy in a phony ape suit. I recommend watching this movie on a night just coming up to Halloween or on the next Friday the 13th (Dec. 13, 2002 for me:), just to get in the mood, if you like to be spooked every now and then.

Harriet the Spy
(1996)

Quite alright
This movie was not what I expected, but I was not disappointed; I was rather entertained. I'm not familiar with the books regarding Harriet the Spy, so I thought the movie was going to be about a kid who uncovered and foiled some illegal plot she stumbled across. I had no idea it was about a girl who aspired to be a writer. It was more dramatic than I expected too, but very realistic..it was about loosing friends and winning friends back-a more realistic story than uncovering and foiling an illegal plot. I loved the city scenes of the children running around Ontario in the autumn. I found it to be rather cinematographic.

Scooby-Doo
(2002)

I Liked It Myself-Unexpected Ending
This movie was surprisingly funny and entertaining. The plot did not make sense at first but certainly made sense toward the end. And what a surprise ending it was!!! Good for the young and young at heart. If you are not young or young at heart, you may be disappointed. But for the rest of us, it is a nice summer flick.

Tri orísky pro Popelku
(1973)

Left an Impression on Me!
I've seen this movie many years ago when I was a very young child in the 1970's. While I do not remember this movie from beginning to end, I do remember bits and pieces of it that left ever-lasting impressions on me. I particularly remember Cinderella being very liberated and foiling the prince's attempt at shooting an animal by hitting him with a snowball, and I thought, "Wow, she is soooo cool!" She ran around in the woods and fended for herself. She was very independent, strong, kind, and extraordinarily beautiful. Apparently many of the comments made by other IMDB users about this film are correct in saying that American adaptations of Cinderella are lame and pathetic. I am an American and I must agree whole heartedly! Because cable tv was not widespread when I first saw this film, and VCR's and DVD's were non-existent, I remember keeping my eye out for this movie in hopes of watching it again. The one time I saw it, it was featured on a Saturday morning children's special and I have not seen it since. I watched other Cinderella stories hoping to find one that resembled "Three Acorns for Cinderella". No films came close and they all were thorough disappointments. I am thrilled to see this is available on DVD via Germany Amazon. I am strongly considering purchasing it tonight!!!

Screen Two: The Silent Twins
(1986)
Episode 2, Season 2

Intriguing
I was quite fascinated when I saw this movie on A&E some years ago. It has always stuck in my memory ever since, even though I have not seen it in a long time. June and Jennifer Gibbons are quite an unusual pair, but you sympathize with them and feel sorry for their parents. The Twins are, for the most part, silent the entire film-only an occasional word between them while no one else is around. However you do hear their thoughts through out the entire film. The "Love Scene" between one of the twins and some teenage guy was a bit disturbing, yet somewhat bemusing. I would love to get my hands on the book, especially since film and book are supposedly based on a true story. I wonder if the book reveals exactly when and why the twins made the pact to not talk to anyone else. And what a pact to keep from childhood to adulthood and possibly beyond!!!

Baby Bedlam
(2000)

The Kiddies Should like it
A cute movie about the hijinx of some kids. It is a far fetched story, and not very realistic in a specific kind of way, but yet I found it somewhat entertaining.

Young kids will more than likely enjoy the movie. However, there is the possibility that children will think these sort of practical jokes are funny and harmless when just the opposit is true. This is a family film in which ultimately nothing bad happens. But if one were to try pranks and stunts, as shown in this movie, in real life, there would be the high probability that something catastrophic would happen. Of course I say this because being an adult, my reasoning and rational thought processes are more dominant than what they were as a child. But to a child whose world is full rich imagination and the thought of endless possibilities, I'd say this is a pretty good film. It does focus on friendship and perseverance.

For you fellow Generation Xer's (and others), you'll enjoy seeing Joe Piscapo of the old Saturday Night Live shows, and Julie Hagerty of Airplane!

Voyage Into Space
(1970)

One of the BEST!!!
...yeah, that's right! This is one of the best movies, as far as I am concerned. Is it one of the best because of it's special effects? No! Is it one of the best because of the acting? No! Then why is it one of the best? Because if this movie made an impression on you as a kid, then it is the perfect kid film. Full of adventure and action. Many kids fantasize about being some sort of super hero or saving the world and "sticking" it to the bad guys. So what could be more appealing than a movie surrounding little Johnny Socko and his Giant Robot! For people (especial kids) who are full of imagination in the first place, things like special effects are not that important.

I notice everyone who commented had nothing but positive things to say about this film. That is because this sort of movie has a profound effect on those it appeals to. I, just like all the other commentators, have fond childhood memories that include this movie, among other things. As a kid, we used to play "Giant Robot" and virtually act out the entire movie. Very endearing.

Dinner and Driving
(1997)

A Humorous Romantic Comedy many can relate to-Contains General Spoilers
This is a unique film. It is a romantic comedy that is quite entertaining, yet very realistic and not over the top.

The film teaches a wonderful and valid lesson too: Don't let anyone else influence you with their ideas and beliefs about commitment and relationships. Before you know it, you may be left miserably regretting things. Meanwhile the person who gave you the ill-fated advice is in hot pursuit of the type of relationship you once had, but unfortunately ruined. I'm sure many of us have observed this sort of thing, if not experienced it first handedly in real life-someone sabotages their relationship with their significant other, whom they were happy with, because friends or relatives "convinced" them not to be limited sexually, or that they can find someone "better". But ironically things are down right disappointing by comparison, when the new lifestyle begins or the "better" girlfriend/boyfriend replaces the former.

The movie is worth watching in it's entirety to get the full effect of the bittersweet ending. Ideal for couples.

Good Times
(1974)

Ain't we Lucky We Got Em
Good Times was a show that made for good viewing and good entertainment. Whether or not one could identify with the story lines or characters, the show was (still is via reruns) insightful and funny. From looking at some of the other comments, some people found the story lines unbelievable and the show too stereotypical. I'm not trying to get people to like the show-everyone is entitled to their own opinions. However, people need to realize that sitcoms are not designed to be 100% true to life. If they were, then they'd be documentaries and not sitcoms.

I loved the show. Jimmy "J.J. Walker" did appear to have more scripts written for his character, but I feel the show focused on the other characters as well. Some of my more favorite episodes involved the entire family, like when they got together for the "rent party" and when the kids were selling "hot underwear" to send their parents on vacation. I also enjoy whenever the supposed studio audience went "Whew!" whenever something "heavy" happened like someone getting fake slapped or someone laying some deep wisdom on someone who deserved the lesson. The political commentaries were very well done too. While the stereotyping may have been offensive to some, I think it was all a product of it's time. Some people feel the Evans family was too nice for an under-privileged Black family and should have been "sticking it to the man" and lashing out at society. However, keep in mind that there are plenty of good, entertaining "Blackploitation" films of the same era that are available for rent or purchase, if one needs to see folks turning crime instead of the focus being good family values.

By the way, Ralph Carter was very much alive, last time I checked. He just had a birthday last May. It has rumored that he died for about ten years now. People commenting on the IMDB even say he died even though the IMDB, which seems to be a reliable source about such things, indicates that he is still living. Boy, rumors sure do take on a life of their own despite evidence that shows the contrary.

Cleopatra Jones
(1973)

Who was that Bad Mamma Jamma???
Cleapatra Jones is one of those movies that you might have caught on t.v. as a little kid and thought, "Wow, that was amazing! I want to be just like her!" Then, when you are older and see it scheduled to come on t.v. again, or see it in the video store, you arrange to watch it with all sorts of anticipation and end up laughing through the entire movie-the choreographed fight scenes, the extreme villains, the jive "put downs". Either way, it is a cool movie to watch, whether you want to go "WOW" or joke it.

I think Tamara Dobson is absolutely stunning in the movie. Very glamorous and very "tough" (if you disregard the fake fight scenes)and within the context of the movie, she is very smart. Blaxploitation films had their place back in the day (and they still do).

Shelly Winters played a "surprising" role as the villain. If you need to get a handle on this, view the movie, "I'm Gonna to git You Sucka"- Towards the end of the movie, a whole list of actors/actresses, who are thought to be above playing in exploitation movies, are named in various exploitation films. Of course Cleopatra Jones is mentioned.

While the movie can be classified as "cheesy" by many, it does have action, adventure, and romance. The action is non-stop-Cleo is always kung fuing someone or driving the hell out of her Corvette to get away from the bad guys. Also, there a pretty neat scene where she rides a motorcycle up a steep hill to everyone's dismay (if you happen to catch CJ on DVD or VHS, use pause on this scene-it is clearly a Caucasian male, with brown makeup, who is actually riding the motorcycle). The adventure is during the beginning-she is in Turkey blowing up poppy fields. Also, her investigations takes her to various parts of town and she interfaces with various "interesting" supporting characters. And then there is the romantic scene with her and Bernie Casey.

If anything, CJ is a wonderful film to have going if you happen to have a 70's theme party or something.

River's Edge
(1986)

Disturbingly Realistic
This film did a wonderful job at presenting teenagers and how it is not that far fetched for people to get sucked into "going along with the crowd". After a group of teenagers find out that their friend killed his girlfriend, who was also their friend, they all keep it only among themselves and no one immediately goes to the authorities. Lane, played by Crispin Glover, sort of leads the group into sticking together to "protect their friend who is still alive". Kenu Reeves is more or less the main character, who does a wonderful job playing a kid who seems to only want to get stoned and cut class. And Ione Skye plays Clarissa, the stoner type girl that dresses in the "I don't give a damn about my appearance" way, yet manages to make sure she has on an abundance of makeup, especially around the eyes. All of the kids came from dysfunctional families, one with a Mom who kept joints laying around for her kids to find, as if the live in boyfriend, who hit her kids, was not bad enough. What was especially spooky about the film is that I was about the same age as the characters when I first saw it. I found every single one of the characters realistic and could parallel them to someone I knew, maybe except for the crazy dude played by Dennis Hopper. But then again, his character had some general similarities to someone I encountered-some older guy in the area who hangs out with high school kids and buys them beer and stuff. The acting was very good especially since most of the cast were virtually unknowns during the time when the movie first debuted on cable.

If you have never seen this film, try renting it or catching it on the IFC sometime. It is wonderfully written. And if you were in your teens during the mid to late 80's, you may relate to some of the less morbid aspects of the film, like the "pre-grundge" flannel look complete with dangling bandanna from the back pocket of a pair of blue jeans or black "hey look at me, I'm a rocker wanna be" pants. We used to call that the "head" or "grit" look in this part of the country back in the day. LOL

The Year Without a Santa Claus
(1974)

A Christmas Special that REALLY Rocks
I admit it!!! I am one of those grown ups (a Generation Xer to be exact)who has never really fully grown up-at least not when it comes to watching Christmas Specials like this one. I have this on DVD now and plan to collect all the Rankin Bass Specials in addition to the Charlie Brown Holiday specials.

A Year Without a Santa Claus is just great. You can't beat it in my opinion. I agree with all the other comments that the Miser Brothers are the highlight of the special and should be mentioned whenever this special is marketed. But unlike some of the other comments, I liked the ENTIRE story. Another person who commented, Oldra, seems to hit the nail on the head about the song "So You Don't Believe in Santa Claus". Call me silly, but my eyes get just a "little wet" whenever Ignatious's Father and Mr. "Clouse" start singing to him about the existence of Santa Claus. Even though in real life, a man does not come down chimneys in a red suit to deliver presents, the symbolism of what Santa stands for what the song is trying to convey-and it does a very good job in my opinion!!! To quote the song, "Just believe in Santa Claus, like you believe in Love, and just believe in Santa Claus, and everything he does". Happy Holidays and beyond!

The Weekenders
(2000)

Great for those who can appreciate being a kid or kid at heart
This is a wonderful show that many adolescents and adults can relate to. For the adolescents, it is very entertaining. Some of the other comments I read suggest how unrealistic the show is. However, it is a cartoon meant for entertainment value. It is not supposed to to be a true replication of true to life things for the entire 30 minutes. But then again, the overall themes are realistic and things kids can relate to: Being drawn to a more popular crowd just to find out it was NOT all you'd thought it would be; changing a look to impress someone of the opposite sex just to have them be less interested in you; being a child of a single parent house hold; trying to find something "fun" to do that everyone in your group will enjoy; etc. Many adults are likely to find the show refreshing, especially if they still have some "kid" left in them. I personally look forward to getting up Saturday morning and curling up on my living room couch with a blanket to watch this, as well as other Disney cartoons (i.e. Recess, Lloyd in Space, Teacher's Pet)after a long work week. I only wish Pepper Ann and Doug still came on Saturday mornings.

The show is not for everyone, especially some adults, as indicated by some of the other comments. But if you are still somewhat a kid at heart and are lucky enough to have the free time to watch this show, it is worth treating yourself to it. Later Days!!!

If Lucy Fell
(1996)

A sure cure for insomnia
I rented this movie some time ago, thinking it would be great, especially with Sarah Jessica Parker and Ben Stiller. However, I found the movie very disappointing . It did not keep my attention and I kept waiting for it to "get good". It never did. I ended up falling asleep. Unlike other movies I have fallen asleep on, I did not feel the need to try to watch it again, especially when spending money to rent it. In fact, I could not wait to get the tape back video store. However, whenever I have trouble sleeping, I do consider purchasing a copy of this movie to help me fall asleep.

After reading other comments, I see that some people liked this movie and thought it was clever and smart, so it must have some enjoyable and entertaining value from a view point I am either lacking or just have not applied. However, it is definitely no Something About Mary, or You Got Mail which are wonderful romantic comedies, yet very different from each other.

Remember the Titans
(2000)

Predictability is sometimes a good thing
This movie is great. I don't see a problem with some predictable movies if they have a good message, like this one. Also, since this movie is based on a true story, it is inevitable that it would be somewhat predictable. Predictable things happen in real life.

I enjoyed every aspect of this movie, including the bonding and the singing of Motown songs. I too, have broken out "in song" when goofing around with friends or when making the work day a little more "interesting" with coworkers.

The friendships, which overcame racial bigotry and intolerance, in this movie is an exact depiction of real life in American society today. The world is still far from perfect and racial prejudice still thrives. But we can still see where we were 30 years ago, and where we are today as far a race relations go-and we are still evolving. I think there are literally thousands of true stories that can be told about unlikely friendships of people of different races...people who eventually saw past the physical, and into one's character and learned a valuable lesson along the way. `Remember the Titans' is just very unique and had the opportunity to be told in a wonderful, tasteful manner.

If I have to point out anything "unrealistic" about the movie it would have to be the choice of racial slurs used-they are quite tame compared with real life. But the script was purposely written that way so the movie can be viewed and enjoyed by vast, diverse audiences.

I am glad I saw this movie, and would recommend anyone else, who is contemplating seeing it, to just see it. I initially put off seeing the movie due to reading comments about how "predictable" it was and comments like, "Oh just another movie about how some guys over come their odds to win the BIG GAME". But the movie is about so much more-our history as a society and about values and lessons in integrity. You don't have to be a football enthusiast to enjoy it because the football is really just a backdrop to the main theme of the story. But then again, if you like football, you should also find the football scenes enjoyable.
