Flawless
(1999)

Awesome Acting 101
I am sorry to say that I saw this movie for the first time today. You know they say hind sight is 20/20. I remember when the previews for the movie were out and I thought that looks like a really great movie. It was an incredible movie.

De Niro is exceptional as the homophobic former hero cop with a speech impediment due to a stroke. Hoffman is wonderful as the singing drag queen. The chemistry between the characters is true to life and heartfelt. When they come together, we see that their dissimilar lives are not so dissimilar at all. They are both overcoming some of the same trials and tribulations just over different things. They develop an amazing bond that will help them through the tough times.

A Flawlessly Beautiful Movie.

X-Men
(2000)

Can your comic heros really come to life?
The answer to that question can be found in this movie with a resounding YES. Being a fan of X-Men comics and cartoons, I watched this movie with great skepticism. It was wonderful how the characters remained true to the comics.

The special powers that our mutant heros and villains possess are displayed exceptionally. It made me wish that I could have a special power of my own.

Enough can not be said of the phenomenal cast of actors that were selected for their roles. Not only did they fit their parts perfectly, but they made you believe. Bravo to Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen and a host of actors who were lucky enough to take part in this adventure.

Bryan Singer does a fantastic job of bringing it all together. The special effects in this movie, only enhance the great script and acting. After seeing the DVD with the outtakes, the editing was quite effective.

The true battle of good versus evil can always make for a great story but when a comic book is adapted to film and you feel that what you see is really possible, it is a true stroke of genius.

Unbreakable
(2000)

M. Night Shyamalan does it again
What can you say about this true visionary on the art of film but he has done it once again. Unbreakable is a heart felt and compelling work of the old adage of good versus evil. Our hero and arch-enemy are both acted with grace, style and believability. Not only do you see and hear the characters but you can also feel the emotion as it pours through in every word and action.

The storyline of the movie is a bit weak and even somewhat slow at times. However, what this movie lacks in story, it more than makes up for in feeling. The camerawork is exceptional, at times you are as much a part of the movie as you are a viewer. For example, at the beginning of the movie when we see our hero on the train, we feel like we are in the seat in front of him eavesdropping on his conversation. The sound and editing only enhance the feeling that you are part of the movie.

The symbolism in the movie is much more prevalent than in The Sixth Sense. In my first viewing of the movie, I found myself only wanting to know what will happen next. But the second time around, I was watching for the symbolism and I was not disappointed. Mr. Shyamalan even makes a brief appearance in the movie himself. It was nice to see him in front of the camera instead of behind it.

I am on the edge of my seat awaiting his next film. As with our hero's character in this movie, Mr. Shyamalan's film making abilities are truly "Unbreakable".
