Ms. Marvel
(2022)

A Marvel of a show
This is what Marvel does best. Changing and altering things that aren't so important for non-comic fans, yet make it to be enjoyable all the same.

The characters are real and fun at the same time without being over the top. The Mom, tiger like, quick witted and worries like a mom does. Dad is ultra-supportive, fun, and wants Kamala to find herself however she needs to do it.

The best thing about the show is the presentation style. It reminds me of a movie called The Dangerous Life of Alter Boys. Some people are referencing Scott Pilgram as relevant as well. The colors are many and bright, the text pops out onto the environment and other graphics set the scene of what is happening in the current part of the story.

A must watch if you are a creative, smart person who likes original shows.

The Quest
(2022)

A remake that misses the mark
A few people don't remember that this is not a new show. The Original concept for the show came out back in 2014 on ABC.

Then it was 12 people with the contestants aging from 19 to 40.

Miss Sherlock
(2018)

A twist to a classic show.
I am sure this doesn't need too much of an introduction, but it is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's great detective Sherlock Holmes. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and this show really lays it on heavily. If you are a fan of the BBC's Sherlock, then this was made to imitate that , to the best of it's abilities. However , this is not quite as warm and creative as the show it is trying to dedicate itself too. Though show has the same quirky style, music (although in a almost 16 bit score for the music. In the first episode they even play the Sherlock theme.) Enter, Yuko Takeuchi, a female version of Sherlock ( acted with the imitation and form of Benedict Cumberbatch). Also with Shihori Kanjiya as a female version of Watson. These two meet and run around Japan solving mysteries like a great detective should. The writing is a little weak and the stories are very predictable, sometimes they don't leave the revealing twist until the very last scene, which is always horrible in storytelling. You should always leave bread crumbs and have a build up and not be forced to reveal everything at the final end of a great detective story. The editing is bad and the dialog is choppy, and the pace is slower than it should be However, there can be some delight in knowing that this is still active, while the BBC series is still in suspension. ( Benedict Cumberbatch still has the option of doing 1 more season of Sherlock. But considering how horrible the 4th series was, there is no rush for him to return.)

Love
(2015)

Love this film.....NOT
Just now watching this film as it has come to Netflix. I have heard about this film from different resources saying that it was a hot title to watch on Netflix. I figured I would check it out, even though I had never heard about it before. I was warned that the sex scenes in the movie were quite graphic, which they are, and I am afraid that those scenes are all this film has to offer. The premise is weak. The writing is horrible , and even the sex scenes lack passion. The best thing going for this movie is the cinematography is pretty good. That is about it. I find it hard to imagine that someone actually financed this piece of garbage. I would be happy to know if it was filmed with a couple of Iphones, of something, because the movie has no substance. It isn't a good film, it isn't even a good porn flick.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
(2018)

A movie for movie lovers
This movie is an experience to be enjoyed by people who love movies and a great over-all experience. The traditional 2D animation mixed in with computer animation and cell shading technique is something that you have possibly never seen before. The story is easy to follow because they explain it as the movie goes along, so you do NOT have to know about the comic books or much about this particular version of Spider-man. Do yourself a favor and try to see this on a big screen such as IMAX. I saw it in 3-D and I can say it does add to the experience. This movie is definitely in the running for not just best animated movie, but best movie of the year.

Venom
(2018)

An Anti-hero movie for the rest of us
This public service announcement is being provided for those viewers who have a hard time of letting go things they think they "know". One of those things is that "You can not do a Venom movie without Spider-man!". I am here to tell THOSE people, you are WRONG! As those people are no doubting shouting profanities at my review right now, they have not considered that I went into this movie knowing NOTHING about Venom, Spider-man, Eddie Brock, Symbiotes, or how Venom came to be in the comics. This part here is the actual review. The movie was good. Not bad, but not good. Think of early/mid 90's super-hero films. (Ang Lee's Hulk, Batman Forever). The good parts about the movie is that Tom Hardy gave an excellent performance in this role as he has done in so many films. He really put effort in this movie and did as best as he could with what he was given. The relationship between Venom and Brock worked well to the point of you understand why Sony took a gamble on this movie. It actually makes you hope that Sony decides to extend the character to other movies. The bad: This movie felt like it was filmed in scenes, seriously. All movies are filmed out of order and assembled together, however the ideal is for you as the viewer to watch the movie from start to finish in a complete nature. However when watching this film all you can see is scene/cut/next scene. Like a puzzle being put together. Also the relationship aspect in the movie was crow-bared in, to which it should have been left out. If you go see this movie, do your best to view it as I did. Forget the Venom you know in the comics or in previous tv shows. Just try to see the version in the movie, and you might have an enjoyable time. Please, like all Marvel movies, do stay for the 2 after movie scenes. 1 comes mid credit and one at the end of the movie.

Troll 2
(1990)

This is pure goodness.
I stumbled onto this movie when watching reviews for "The Room". Some people were saying that The Room was not the worst movie ever made, and that it was Troll 2. Well I can say that even this movie, is still not the worst movie ever made. This is a true popcorn film. This is a movie that you invite your friends and family over to force them to watch it, until they die laughing. Bad acting , bad story and even bad edits can not stop this movie from being truly entertaining. That is what movies are for, to entertain. I can definitely recommend watching this film when you are bored or just doing some house cleaning (what I was doing at the time).

Justice League
(2017)

Please, make the pain stop
After dealing with months of speculation about how good or even great the potential of this film could have been, I am glad we have finally arrived at the moment I had predicted. This movie is OK, but no Avengers. The film seems like a bunch of scenes filmed separately and then put together to resemble a movie. The plot is weak and the villain is a CGI mess. Once again they gave Henry Cavill very little to do or say in this movie as well. Three movies into playing Superman and he has a total of about 60 lines. The good things I can say about the movie is that the individual characters were pretty decent. (However Ben's Batman leaves something to be desired. It seems he was just there to get a paycheck. Glad he is leaving the role.) There is a good fight sequence with the Amazons, and Ezra Millers Flash was entertaining. Do yourself a favor if you are reading this review and have not seen the movie yet, DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE for this film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017)

The laughs and adventure pumped up by 10!
Greetings! Just came from a double-feature showing of the Guardians movies, Volume 1 and 2 together. In doing this I got to compare the first and the second movie with them both freshly in my mind, and I will say Vol 2 is the BETTER of the two movies. The first movie did introduce us to this universe and these characters, so therefore you will hear some people 'professional critics' complain that Volume 2 isn't as 'fresh' and the first movie. Well they are idiots for saying that because the first movie was the introduction to characters most people have never heard of. Remember when the first trailer came out and many people were like "who the heck are these people? is Marvel pulling our leg?". Volume 2 gets to get right into the action and the story without having to re-introduce all the characters again. The movie has bigger and better laughs and some very touching moments. The stand out characters in this film are definitely Yondu and Nebula. You find out what drives them and what shapes them and their life. The only downside to the movie is although it is 2 hours and 15 minutes long, it seems to go by way to quickly and I would have loved for it to have 20 minutes longer.

Medicine for Melancholy
(2008)

Great for trouble sleeping
I just watched this film on NetFlix. It was recommended by some critics online who saw the film awhile back and saying that it was a beautiful film. Riding high of the Oscar win, this film by Barry Jenkins was supposedly an inspiration which lead to the creation of Moonlight. I am always looking for undiscovered gems which I may not have seen before, to enjoy on days I have off of work. I am sorry to say, but maybe this film is just "too hip" for me. I have tried, and failed to what this film 3 times. Each time falling asleep while attempting to stay awake. The pale color pallet, the slow pace, the awkward dialog, make for a mix of great boredom. I am glad others found joy in this film, but I have found much better films online of the same nature.

The Jungle Book
(2016)

Welcome to my jungle!
There are times where you see a remake or an re-imaging of a movie , and think to yourself "OH NO! WHY?!" THIS my friends is not one of those times. By the end of this movie, you will be thanking Jon Favreau for taking on such a task. The motion capture and CGI of the animals is top notched, and the set designs are wonderful. I would recommend seeing this movie in 3D, which I don;t do very often, because most 3D movies are horrible in that format.

The flow of the movie is really good, If I have one minor complaint is that 20 minutes into the movie, it seems to drag, but after that, it is forgotten , and you are glued to your seats.

The action will keep you gripped to your seats, and there are a few scary and intense moment that might give children under the age of 10 nightmares.

This movie, I have a feeling will be a very slow burn, as far as the money making potential. I think once word gets out and more people have seen it, it will continue to grow and prosper , and stay two months in the theaters.

La vie d'Adèle
(2013)

Blue movie, but nothing more
When I first heard about this movie and how great it was supposed to be, I could not wait to see it. Just a couple a days ago I purchased it from Ebay for 6 dollars. I am sorry to say but this movie is NOWHERE as good as many people are making it out to be. there are so many things wrong with this movie, and I will list the main 3 things, that you will find in every other review about this movie. 1. The shot is way too close. The camera gets in way to far to truly see faces and expressions. (mouths, chins, eyebrows, foreheads,) people in general are cut from the very tight camera shot. 2. This movie could have been shorten by 30 minutes MINIMUM. seriously, the child care shots, some of the club scenes. ( I would like to do my own edit of this movie, and I might sometime.) 3. The story lacks a decent flow. It jumps around to much in the beginning and you have trouble keeping up with what is going on. (bad editing again)

If you want to see the same story but told MUCH better, I would recommend Kissing Jessica Stein or Better and Chocolate. 2 far superior movies than this one. The only reason anyone likes this movie is due to the extended graphic sex scenes, and they could have been shot much better as well.

Man of Steel
(2013)

Heroic, but not so Super. - warning spoilers
I went to see this movie and something occurred to me during this what seems like 30 minute fight sceen towards the end of the movie. When you make a movie, and the protagonist has actual antagonist to deal with, you have to make the antagonist not be superior to the protagonist. It is a very delicate balancing act. We are talking about the strongest, fastest, and most powerful being on the earth, and we are supposed to believe he has an equal. Well he doesn't, if that equal is from earth. so what do you do, to create that fight and struggle, make sure the protagonist is from his same planet, and with his same powers. In the story, which you already know so well, Superman gets sent from his destroyed home planet to earth. Afterwards, the bad guys that were banished from his planet find him on earth to seek him for something they need. In one of the scenes in the movie, they send 12 of them to earth. 12, and yet, there is only 3 of them Superman has to deal with. WHY? Wouldn't you send all the might and power you had to destroy him and be over with it? Secondly, after this grand long-drawn out battle, the leader General Zod, dies in a very unimpressive, unheroic way. Which leaves people to say....ALL OF THAT fighting, and for what? Superman should have done that in the first place. I will give the movie 7 out of 10 stars simply because of the urgency to make it seem like superman has an real trouble or issues.

I do like however a slight hint, or Easter egg planted in the movie during the fight scene. When Superman throws General Zod through a LEXCORP oil tanker. Good set up for the next movie.

Oz the Great and Powerful
(2013)

A very nice time in oz
I am not sure what some people were expecting when seeing this film. However the family and I really enjoyed this movie. It was very heart warming, funny, thrilling, and an overall joy for everyone. The family sat and discussed this movie for hours afterwards over dinner. I personally was glad that Johnny deep did not do this movie, simply because I would be sitting there comparing him to jack sparrow. I would recommend is movie to friends I with children. Do yourself a favor and please do not try and compare this to wizard of oz. just look at the movie as a fresh new adventure. I also recommend to get your tickets early to this film. The theater was quite full when I went to see it with the family.

The Dark Knight Rises
(2012)

A Dark Knight rises above the others!!
Sometimes, when you hear a sequel will be made to an excellent movie, you dread the worst, and it makes your body cringe in fear. You say to yourself "WHY, WHY, WHY...run the risk of messing with perfection". Then the sequel will come out and it actually is really good, possibly better than the original. This movie, BY FAR, is better than it's 2 previous films. The acting is superb, the action scenes suspenseful, and the drama unfolds like origami figure. They do a great job of telling each characters story to where you actually can feel and relate to everyone in the movie, even the "bad guy". This movie is one of those must see films. I have to give it a 9 out of 10 due to the MASSIVE 3 or 4 plot holes, but hey, this is fantasy and we sometimes can allow for certain gaps in storyline.

The Avengers
(2012)

THIS is what an action movie should be like!!!
I just LOVE this movie. A great action movie that will keep you on the edge the entire time. It was one heck of a feat to make sure all of the characters got enough time on the screen and they did this wonderfully. I am going to say this, do yourself a favor, GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!! bring the family too.

I do have 2 problems with this movie. the first is the "conflict' that is supposed to exist between the characters. From my view there was much of a 'conflict', just a difference of techniques or views. Second problem I have with the movie is that it was too short and there wasn't any cameos of any other characters that could have been involved with the film. (no spidey or wolverine or fantastic four involved in taking out an invading force?) Picky I know, but so much was great with this film, trying to find something bad with it was much harder.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1
(2010)

A decent beginning for a spectacular ending
I just came from this movie and thought to myself, "I wonder why they didn't take this approach in Goblet of Fire?" personally we ALL know this is for a money-making aspect and has nothing to do with, "not being able to tell the story in one movie." If they actually cared about telling the story correctly they would have made G.O.F into 2 movies.

The movie was rushed, and it seemed that they literally took the best parts from each of the beginning chapters and threw them together. Many lines from the movie were taken from the book word for word, kind of a stretch for the other movies, when they tried to stress the point that it is a movie and not a book.

I personally thought the casting or at least the makeup part of the many of the characters were done poorly as well. The Minister of Magic looked nothing liked the description in the book. Supposedly he was a built rugged looking man with a lion manned hair, but they made him a tall scrawny guy who needed a meal or two. Mundungus Fletcher, Fenrir Greyback is a werewolf, not a reject from the sex-pistols. Bill Weasley is stated as tall ruggedly handsome and athletic, not thin skinny emo rocker.

I love the ideal of filming in the "real world" however the sets left something to be desired. they seemed very small, crowded and not realistic to be taken as a "real world" Gordics Hollow looked like a sound stage, as well did the Lovegoods and Malfoy manor. They could have at least rented a nice mansion in Louisiana for Malfoy Manor.

I have to give the movie a 6 out of 10. I have to be more critical of this due to the fact that they should have all of the aspects down by now after all these movies. I will say as far as all the movies in the series goes, this one would be in the top 3...so far...not as good as Order of the Phoenix or Sorcerers Stone but better than Goblet of Fire, depending on how it ends.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
(2010)

Greed is good, Revenge is better
I just saw this movie and am writing my review in the theater. i found this movie to begin slowly, and starts to heat up very quickly. I am not going into details about the movie itself, due to you can probably guess it without actually seeing the movie. What I will say is that the high points of the movie, is that it is very suspenseful, powerful, and has a touch of passion. This movie could have been really great if it was allowed to grow in the development of the story. I thought it would but it is actually very short for an oliver stone film, probably one of his shortest in run-time. I also will say that this is one of the better films of the year, possibly the best film of the year so far, in what has definitely been a ho-hum season for movies. I would recommend for people to go see the movie, however it isn't something that you will hate yourself for not seeing, but you will miss some of the greater performances this year.

Inception
(2010)

Some dream are really nightmares, like this movie
I am sorry i was forced to see this film. ( i was on a date and they were 15 minutes late for the movie i wanted to see.)

The story is is predictable. the ending is very predictable if you pay attention to the first 6 minutes of the film. The one thing you never do in a mystery books is let the reader get ahead of you, same goes for a movie. The viewer should never know the ending before the movie barely begins. The acting in this film is fine, most of the actors really shine in this movie BUT Leo. I use to love Leo when he was 13, but now he is an adult, and his acting hasn't dramatically improved in all these years.

I would say this is going down as one of the worst movies I have seen so far this year, but there were 2 other movies that would win that title.

I would recommend for anyone wanting to see this film to wait for DVD or Cable. It just isn't worth the time.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
(2010)

Different than the book, but just as enjoyable
I know i am late in doing this review, but i wanted to read the book before judging the movie. This is a pretty good movie, and i would recommend young people to see it. It has action, and suspense, and some of the age old lessons on friendship, respect, loyalty, overcoming differences and learning to see things a different way. Judging the movie by itself, i would grade it a B-.

Now in comparisons with the book... As the old saying goes, you cant put everything in the book into a movie, but in this case i couldn't see why not? They change the movie around, quite different in the book. Now usually this is a VERY BAD, almost DEADLY thing to do...however in this films case..IT WORKED. They kept the same feel of the book in the movie, and even though they are different, you don't lose that feeling of the movie not living up to the books expectations. This is kind of like 2 sides of the same coin. If i have one complaint about the movie, that didn't have a seen from the book, it would be the omission of Ares. What i did like that they put in the movie and not the book, they got rid of the character Clarisse, but set up the adventure quite well without her. So judging the book to movie translation I would give it a B- as well.

Nine
(2009)

A story of inspiration, for the uninspired
When I first heard the announcements for Golden Globe nominations, they announced a film called "Nine". I thought to myself, 'wow, Tim Burton's has done it again...', then they announced the cast, 'Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Fergie...' and I thought..."They were not in that movie, nor did the do the voices for it". LOL Little to my attention were their 2 movies this year with the title 9. lol.

Anyway on with the review...

We have Guido, who has lost his inspiration and desire to produce a movie. He cant sleep, cant eat, and can't rest in peace. Everybody loves him and his work, except for his last 2 films which were considered flops, and he doesn't understand why everyone thinks he is so special. So he searches for a source of inspiration from his dead mother , played wonderfully by the never aging and always beautiful Sophia Loren. He looks for inspiration in loving and dedicated his wife Marion Cotillard. He also talks to his mistress, played wonderfully and seductively by Penelope Cruz. The only person who seems to keep him leveled is his wardrobe designer, played stunning and remarkably by Dame Judi Dench. His movie has a press conference, poster and is being promoted, even has a release date...However he doesn't even have a cast, the main actress, Nicole Kidman, nor has he even wrote a script yet.

The lights and camera angles and color schemes were all brilliant just like Chicago. however the filming wasn't as crisp. it looked smokey and grimy, like a bar scene..but maybe that is how Rob Marshall wanted it to look. The best scenes in the movie for me were the Dame Judi Dench (I didn't know she could sing, and with an accent as well. lol) and the Fergie sequences. (that was Fergie?!?!) she looked incredible. Not like a teeny hip-hop, wanna-be girl, but a sexy, sultry, mature lady you want to lead you down many roads of temptations. The only down side is Nicole Kidman, who looked flat and out of place in this film.

I would definitely see this movie again, and I hope there are many extended extras on the DVD when it comes out.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
(2009)

THIS is what summer movies should be
When i saw the promos for this movie, i thought it might be OK, maybe just a cool, forgetful flick....I WAS WRONG!!

This movie is what summer movies should be. It has everything a great movie should be, in fact i will call this THE BEST movie of the year, so far....

G.I. JOE was 2 times better than transformers and 10 times better than Harry potter. What made this movie so great? Well if you take The Empire Strikes Back, mix it with a little James Bond, add a dash of Firefox, you should have one great movie, and we do.

The really great thing about this movie is it COULD be believable, in a small manner. The technology in the movie, we do have in today's military...souped-up of course, but we do have it. Cybersuits, nanobots, holographic displays, voice control...all in real life. But i digress...

What makes this an ultimate movie is we have an ACTUAL and Believable Plot..something lacking in other movies we have had.

We have the Hero, with a trouble and emotional past. Strong, brave, and just a little crazy. We have the Bad Guy, who doesn't start as the bad guy, nor as the top dog, but is in the title of the movie, and will be the focus of the sequel to come. The bad guy has a trouble past, and a thirst for more power, and doesn't want to play second fiddle to no one. Finally we have the mystery man...No one knows his TRUE intentions. Is he just a pawn/lap dog for the bad guy, or does he have his own sinister intentions??? We have action, excitement, intrigue, and a couple of good laughs as well. This movie is a movie I would, and in fact did see again, and have recommend others to see as well. even if they aren't GI JOE fans.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
(2009)

Highly disappointing
This film was quite disappointing and did not live up to the previous film that was done by David Yates. In the series of all the movies made from the books, this one was just slightly better than the horrible (Prisoner of Azkaban). The actor the chose to play slughorn was all wrong. Slurred speech, Uneven delivery, and just looked wrong for the part. The movie jumps from one chapter to the next going, by the book, where a full chapter is done in 1 minute in the movie. There were some parts and scenes that had nothing to do with the book, this confuses me. Why waste the time putting stuff in that isn't there, and leaving stuff out that should be? (Leaving out Bill weasley, dobby and Kreature, Minister Scrimgore, Fudge, and numerous other characters was unforgivable) Yes, i know, you cant do the WHOLE BOOK for a movie, but I made this movie, i could do a MUCH BETTER job, and maybe ad 10 minutes to the movie, and tell the story much better. The one bright aspect is that the main actors aren't the cute kids anymore, and have grown up to be wonderful actors. Had i know, i would have waited for this film to come out on DVD instead of paying to see it. I am sure it might do 230 million dollars, but they need to put that much money into the value of the writing and production of the film.

Hitman
(2007)

Action Packed just like the game
This movie is VERY WELL worth going to see. In the tradition of movies like Bourne Identity, The Saint, Transporter...this movie follows along those lines. Great Plot lines and twist, which keep you wondering who is on what side and what will happen next. I am looking forward to a sequel to this movie because out of all the movies released this year, this one is very deserving of it. I went to see this without my usual intense research of trying to find out what the movies was about and who was in it and clips of the movie. I just went with a clean open mind, and I am glad i did. Sometimes when you go to movies with big expectations, you get a big let down. Other times if you go with an open mind, you get to see the movie as it is, and can view the movie without any preconceived ideals.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
(2007)

Compelling tale, very refreshing movie
The definitive review is back! Yes folks, here we are again, and once again i have to tell the story in 2 parts. First for the people who have read the book and the people who will just go watch the movie, but never read the book.

First for the people who have read the book. This movie was made just about as good as you can make it. Phoenix is the largest book in the series, and possibly the most boring read of all the books. i think the movie would have been better had it been 20 minutes longer. the scene i most wanted to see was omitted which was the scene in the book involving neville and his parents in the hospital. but aside from that they pretty much crammed just about everything in by performing 2 lines from each character on each page.

For the people who just will watch the movie. The tempo was nice, but felt a little rushed. the set design was good, and it is good to see the actors improve a little more each movie. ( i am thinking still that Emma Watson is still the strongest actor of the trio) the interaction between the rest of the cast is nice, however all the adult actors roles have been limited to small bits and pieces, the kids pretty much have the movie.

Overall, as a movie it was a B-, as a book to movie translation i give it a B- as well.
