The Last of Us
(2023)

Visually great, but ...
I'm enjoying the series so far. There are some great moments in it. My main issue though is that people keep making stupid mistakes. Even though they've been living with the situation for 20 years. They act like the outbreak only happened a week ago. Joel was given a truck and was literally spoilt for choice when it came to guns, grenades etc. Yet choose to carry a rifle instead of a machine gun. Then stupidly decided to drive it through an unknown city centre.

There are more examples of this throughout the show. With Harry. Too many to list to be honest.

Just never got the gang and their leader trying to find Harry. Didn't really get her character. Felt so out of place. So glad she was killed off.

Can't wait for honest trailers to do their magic on this.

A breath of fresh air
So far so good! I'm up to Episode 6. Loving the slow build up. Makes you feel part of the show. As it grows, you grow with it.

The acting is as good as anything you'll see on TV or in a movie. The costume designs 10/10. The filming and direction 10/10. The Special effects feel real. Each scene or room has been thought about The light, sounds, look and feel of it is almost Stanley Kubrick like (dare I say).

Finally I love that the design and technology they use matches the look of the original Episode One movie. The late 1970's VDU screens, the red and white square buttons on the consoles etc. Fantastic!

The Batman
(2022)

Starts well, but....
As the film began in was really impressed. Great direction and visually stunning. Really enjoyed it up to the scene where he's chasing the Penguin in his bat mobile. From then on the story just goes downhill. Introducing real life politics into a fantasy film ruins it. I liked Robert Pattinson, but he was too weak looking. The fight scenes weren't very impressive either. Finally, Batman is supposed to be human and the best of the best. Almost unstoppable. An iconic DC character. He fails miserably and Catwoman has to rescue him like he's the weaker of the two. She's tiny and has no body armour to stop bullets, but oh good job she's around to save the day!

Reacher
(2022)

Started off ok but..
Liked the first couple of episodes but it soon descends into an episode of the A-Team or Knight Rider with added violence and language. The story is just plain stupid. All the main characters have their plot armour on. Too many coincidences to help the story along. The bad guys even explain their plans just like a 60's episode of Batman. Kapow!

Love, Death & Robots
(2019)

One episode was enough.
Episode one. Poor animation that looked like a childrens saturday cartoon, stupid character voices. Un-necessary swearing that felt forced, adding nothing to the story or character. Every scene made me cringe.

Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood
(2019)

Great in parts. Poor in others.
Have mixed feelings about this film. Loved how it was made, filmed, scored and directed. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio were both great. The story was good in parts but just ridiculous in others. The film reflects Quentin Tarantino's personality which is part genius, part man baby. I know it was meant to be a fantasy version of that period, but to me it was just weird and stupid.

Doctor Who
(2005)

Terrible, political nonsense!
This could have been a great show. Jodie Whittaker as the doctor was a great idea. I feel so sorry for her though. Terrible acting from her supporting cast. Really poor writing. Really cheap sets and poor CGI. Then to top it off they ram through constant political comments. Trying to push the BBC agenda. I just want to watch great sci-fi and be entertained. Keep politics out of it.

I Am Bruce Lee
(2012)

Good, but nothing new.
Just been to see this at my local cinema. I've been a fan of Bruce Lee all my life. I've read almost every book, every documentary and seen all his films at least 6 times. Nothing new about Lee's life was revealed in this documentary. It was just old stuff repeated with the views of modern MMA fighters and film actors talking about how Lee inspired them.

The only poignant moment for me was hearing Dan Inosanto speak so fondly of Lee and clearly how upset he is by Lee's death.

If you are new to Bruce Lee and a fan of MMA then you will enjoy this. Otherwise nothing new or revealing to be found in this new documentary.

Li Xiao Long zhuan qi
(1976)

Yeeeeeeeeeeee aaaaaaaarrrrrrr!!
I would give this movie 2/10 for the acting. 10/10 for the fights. The star (Bruce Li) was much, much better and played the party of Bruce Lee well. The version I saw was of DVD and seemed to have parts missing from it.

I'm not really sure how much was fact or fiction. I would say that most was fiction. It's a shame we did not get to see the real Bruce Lee. It's a shame that he is not alive today. Bruce Lee was more than just a star, but a politician and promoter of peace.

The training scenes were excellent. The fight scenes were excellent. Bruce Lee fans will enjoy this film and so will Martial Arts fans. Regular movie goers should stay away. Overall I gave it 7/10.

Cut
(2000)

Is it supposed to be funny or is it just me?
When I saw this film I did not know whether it was a black comedy or not. Some bits were quite well done and horrific, whilst other scenes made me laugh out loud. I rated it 5. Would have given it 3 if Kylie Minogue wasn't in it!

Lit foh chin che 2: Git suk chuen suet
(1999)

The Fast & The Furious (Prequel)
If you liked the Fast & The Furious I guess that you would like this Film also. Has a good storyline mixed in with some `Ridge Racer' type racing. The FATF has copied large chunks of this film. Especially the Nitrous oxide injections and in-car computer `warning your car is about to blow' up kind of thing.

Bangkok Dangerous
(2000)

A film that has it all.
This is one of the best films I've seen this year. The story is basically about a professional hit-man (kong) who became deaf and dumb when he was bullied as a child. This for me adds tension to the story because his emotions are portrayed with actions rather than words. Assassinating his victims with no remorse or feeling.

The direction (by the Pang Brothers) is superb. I'm sure we will all hear about these guys in the future. Along with a fantastic soundtrack the action is very realistic and very cold at times.

If you have ever lived or worked in Thailand you will like this film even more as it touches upon certain moral values placed upon modern day Thai society. I'm not saying that all Thai people are like this in this movie, but there is a very small part of Thailand that is. The same can be said of any capital city.

For those who have never been to Thailand, just sit back and enjoy a well directed, well written film.
