Vantage Point
(2008)

Very surprising
Having finished my shopping early, deciding to go and see an action film was supposed to "perk me up", but unfortunately this film did not totally satisfy.

The storyline itself was quite interesting, the president "being" shot, later turning out to be a double, then a bomb going off, police chase et cetera et cetera, but just as it seems to be getting to a good part, it rewinds to about 27 minutes to before it all started.

How many times did they rewind??? 4 TIMES. I'm afraid to say that this was the biggest let down of the film, constant rewinding as soon as it got to the good part, and after the last rewind had finished and the film eventually carried on, it was the same old stereotypical car chase, with a "bent copper" plot line, and in the end the president was lifted to safety. One of the noticeable mishaps was the blatantly obvious lack of continuity during the car chase, after the car had been hit about 7 times it came out of an alleyway looking almost perfect?? Very disappointing.

I cannot fault the actors' performance styles, and the special effects were actually very dynamic, but it was plagued with continuity errors and a 90% fail rate of "rewind style" film style. In short, if you've got absolutely nothing to do, bored to tears and you're close to a cinema then you could go and watch it, won't harm you, but don't get envious to go and see it, don't save up to go and see it, and don't drive too far to go to and see it, not overly worth the money.

Not bad, not good either.

Assault on Precinct 13
(1976)

I'm not one for violent thrillers, but...
As the title suggests, I don't watch many thrillers, but I have to say Assault on Precinct 13 is actually a REALLY good film! I especially enjoyed the fact that it was mainly set in one location, and what really intrigued me was that the lead gang members of Black Thunder say not one word at all. I would have really have liked to have seen more build up at the start of the film, and a less of an abrupt ending, for example did the Napolean get a pardoning????? It would have been interesting to find out! Otherwise a brilliantly produced film, a credit to the film industry, definitely worth a viewing if you haven't seen it yet.

Keeping Mum
(2005)

Ooo Err....
I'm giving this half marks because it is half good and half bloody terrible! I went to see a late showing of this film, and upon first impressions it seemed quite good, Maggie Smith was the best choice for the role as Grace Hawkins, and the fact that she kept murdering everyone was quite funny too, but in a quick instance the story started to become a little far-fetch'd, i.e. in the end when it turns out that Grace is Mrs Goodfellow's mother, well then I thought it to be a bit "hmmmmmmm". Rowan Atkinson was also a good choice, but I would have liked to see his role a little more active. All in all, I think it would have been an absolutely brilliant film if it had a little American inspiration to the film, because, unfortunately, not all British titles do very well, for example I absolutely hated "Love Actually" because it was just BORING, but I loved "Jonny English"! So all-in-all, could be worse but could have done better.

Phoenix Nights
(2001)

Northernly BRILLIANT!
I'd love to give this series about 100/10! The humour in this series is so original, I suppose it helps that I live in Bolton and completely relate to the comedy! I was surprised to hear that when the DVDs were released they sold more in the south of England than they did in the North, but I wonder why southerners "mock" us northerners but they love the comedy produced. I have to say my favourite episode was the pilot episode, with the opening of the club, and "send the buggers back!". I seriously hope Peter Kay and his fellow writers have enough material to produce a third series, it would be brilliant! My favourite character is Ray Vonn, including the Tracy Burns story lines! I also think the auditions at the end of the episodes are hilarious - bring more of it please!!!!!!

Hope & Faith
(2003)

A bit dodgy but got better eventually
Hope and Faith premiered in the UK in 2004, and in my opinion the first season of Hope and Faith was AWFUL. It was the typical blonde just being stupid and attention seeking, and Hope was the most DULLEST character of the lot, it was quite frankly pathetic! In 2005 Hope and Faith season 2 came out and it was a lot better than series 1; Faith had become less blonde and Hope was being less of a "soccermom" come "Marge Simpson", and there was much more involvement from Ted McGinley. I watch it occasionally now, more than I did season 1, and I have to say season 2's theme tune to Hope and Faith is far better than the luvvy duvvy cheesy one from the first season!

Married with Children
(1987)

Very entertaining
I have to say I was surprised to find this funny, as I had heard many different views on this production, but after watching a few episodes I find it to be quite entertaining - it is like a real life version of The Simpsons; Al/Homer (father that cares in his own way) Marge/Peg (Housewives who are not all there upstairs!) and Bud/Bart (slightly mischievous) Kelly and Lisa don't compare! I don't know how to describe the comedy, and what makes it funny, it just is, possibly the completely random situations that occur. Katey Sagal and Ed O'Neil were a great choice for the stupid parents, as was Christina Applegate and David Faustino for Bud. I might buy some DVDs of the series if they are available. Much enjoyed, worth a watch, UK on ITV2 19:00 - 19:30

Commander in Chief
(2005)

Absolutely Brilliant!
I have seen two episodes of this new drama and I am already hooked! The show's premiere in the UK was the start of April in 2006 on ABC's UK sister channel, ABC1. The first episode when the base for the entire storyline is gripping, it kinda reminds me of another favourite film of mine, Air Force 1. I find it interesting to see how Mac Allen (Gina Davis) will cope with being a mother, a husband and the President - I also think it will be interesting to see what happens in the future, if we will see much more on the views of Mrs Bridges (the former first lady) and Nathan Templeton (Mr Speaker). I just wish that ABC1 would show more than one episode a week as I am now very hooked! Keep it up producers! I have to also say that Gina Davis was the best selection for this character, she fits the role perfectly.

The Jeremy Kyle Show
(2005)

Yet MORE Trash TV!
I watched this show for the first time last year, and though a newer style of chat show it is still a pathetic attempt at investigating family issues at a "mature level"; who on earth finds this interesting? For example person X age 22 is married to person Y age 19, but person X sleeps with person Z age 18 and also person X is taking drugs and is violent - person Y should use some bloody common sense and just leave person X and not take it to national television! This is a male version of Trisha - and Jeremy Kyle, who does he think he is? He is, in my opinion, often hypocritical, changing his views far too quickly depending on how the audience reacts. If this is the quality of programming ITV is outputting, God help them, their ratings will plummet, the Jeremy Kyle show is positively awful - just SOME people living in lower class areas of Manchester who thinks the UK cares, WE DON'T! ITV, take some advice, AXE IT!

(Addition 11 APR 2007, my comment of all lower class areas in Manchester is not a general view, it represents SOME people but not all of these people who live in these areas)
