UFO Endgame to Disclosure
(2023)

For newcomers only
For the initiated this is a highly repetitive film. There is little to nothing to be gleaned from this that can't b achieved via any one of the numerous Dr. Steven Greer interviews online. Dr. Greer has done some good work, such as 2001's Disclosure Project - which is too often overlooked, and to someone that has followed him for some time now such as myself, this film simply falls flat. In other words, you will get much more information from listening or watching an interview with the man. And why a questionable Youtube channel like Third Phase of Moon (Blake Cousins - who is a sensationalist of the highest order) is featured often I haven't a clue. When it comes to the UFO/UAP thing you have all these different sorts of people: you have the shills and the debunkers on one hand (skepticism is a good thing and these people don't have an open mind that is required for skepticism) and then you have people that inflate the silliest things into something - represented here by Blake Cousins (which I regard just as goofy as the other camp and operates with zero skepticism). This film also is nowhere near something like Unacknowledged in every aspect and is more amateurish - with the frequent annoying music in the background being a common staple of amateur documentary film making. In summary, I wish I could get a refund for buying this... Next time I'll wait.

Equilibrium
(2002)

So bad at 50 minutes couldn't take it any more...
This film obviously attempts to create a Matrix/1984 hybrid and the end result is absolutely horrid. I am a fan of Christian Bale to an extent (American Psycho he was great - the guy was amongst my favorites until he joined the Marvel bandwagon from the company that made killing creativity amazing profitable) but all he does here is make Keanu's acting in the Matrix look good. How do you review a film that really offers nothing to review? You pass. 7.5/10 on here makes me think I am living on the wrong planet. If you like American Psycho and Machinist Bale avoid... rather, RUN. However if you like cartoons and comic books, and him playing Moses, enjoy. 50 minutes of my life is gone forever to this total garbage.

The Equalizer 3
(2023)

Unfortunately, the Equalizer trilogy ends on a disappointing note
The first Equalizer film remains the best. There is good things in here but they are few and far between. After viewing it seems like both the writers and director didn't know what they were doing; got no idea why not just do the same old organized crime thing. This then has an identity crisis where it starts blurring into a Bourne movie with this transnational criminal enterprise and the CIA trying to crack the case (why - who knows... I never knew the CIA were crime fighters). Of course Denzel is the best part and he's always good in front of a camera but most of the scenes seem to be focused on other characters. In short this one feels absolutely half baked. Big respect if Denzel does walk away from the franchise, as is predicted, before it becomes a joke like so many others out there now. The on-screen reunion of Denzel and Dakota is nice I suppose but I'd rather watch them both in Man on Fire versus this.

Succession
(2018)

Boring show about vapid human beings
I'm late to this - just tried to get into season one this week. Made it to episode three and eventually forced myself to admit that I simply don't give a flying **** about any of the characters or the plot. This is a show about a family which I wouldn't urinate on if they were on fire - in fact I'd want to squirt them with lighter fluid and roast some marshmallows. Why does IMDB require 600 characters?!? I hardly call watching actors portraying pretentious spoiled brats a fun way to pass time or entertainment. In the end, to me, this is a boring show about vapid human beings that are consumed with themselves. Living in the real world I want to escape people like this not binge watch them - hard pass.

The Last of Us
(2023)

Just OK
HBO, of course, deviates and inflates things at every change they get; dedicating an entire episode to a gay couple's love story (which wasn't in the game), or dedicating another entire episode to the girl's backstory (which could have been done in a fraction of that time). It seems HBO likes to grab on to stuff that they then have to fluff and stretch out to make a series - GOT was the same thing only in that case they outpaced the source material. This show is certainly better than that Walking Dead stuff but it is sorely overrated. Anything above an 8/10 in my book is absurd... There is absolutely no way this show is on the same level as Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, etc.

The Terminal List
(2022)

I couldn't give a toss about another SEAL badass show...
... But, have you seen all the 10/10's?!? Seriously, how interesting can yet another macho, and of course SEAL show be? How can it be up there with shows like Breaking Bad? Sopranos? Give me a break. Anti-woke - cool, that is refreshing but it rides on a overdone vehicle. Most of these 10/10's that are inflating the score of an Amazon show on an amazon-owned site are rated by accounts that, unsurprisingly, have only one review and no ratings - and often are several months to days old in age. I actually went down the list and looked.

A Quiet Place Part II
(2020)

An OK Place Part II
Boy takes a bear trap to the ankle; "He's okay - it didn't reach the bone... But the wrapping will not last." This is just one example of some of the issues with the writing. The creatures I find a little absurd in that they just bulldoze everything for zero reason (their like cats in that they like to kill for fun, I guess, except they don't play with you before they kill you), but overall it's just okay. I can't help but feel that Emily Blunt and Celian Murphy's skills are wasted on a very generic script. All that said I do like how some scenes lacked any sound.

Wormwood
(2017)

It's a shame this story was presented in this manner
This is a great true story, yet another one, of unethical actions taken by our government agencies that took someone's life - and of course nobody has been held to account. For me the docudrama thing just doesn't do it. On top of that that is some borderline amateurish editing. The entire thing should have been half the number of episodes but instead they drag it out to the point that I'm on episode five (of six) and, knowing what happens, to make it though the last two is a complete chore.

The Phenomenon
(2020)

Possibly the best film yet on the subject...
For those that have been interested in UFO's. Abductions, etc., there is a lot here that you will already know. But the amount of information that is brought forward for people that haven't been interested in the topic this is the best thing out there. It's high time someone make a proper film about what happened at Ariel School in Ruwa, Zimbabwe.

The Book of Boba Fett
(2021)

Awful
Two thirds of this is a continuation of the Mandalorian?!? Does anybody at Disney, along with the very over hyped Favreau, have any idea what they are doing? Did anyone bother to really flesh this thing out before they jumped in head first?

Three stars for Cad Bane showing up. If they kill him off, or if they make it to where he didn't take out Vanth, this will go to one star. Well, looks like it's one star now. So why is it that Disney doesn't understand that the reason why the original trilogy was so good was the character development? Darth Vader was present throughout - until the end. Every good villain in everything Star Wars under Disney's ill control nary gets any screen time or development before they are killed off. And still, bad guys abound that can't shoot their way out of a paper bag. I can't even take this stuff anymore after the original trilogy. Of course Disney, you can't show people dying but you can show weapons being aimed, fired, etc... So what are the children, whom you are obviously and ultimately making this trite for, going to learn - that nobody gets hurt from armed conflict? Why can't anyone come up with content for those of use that grew up with Lucas' original trilogy in the late 70's and early 80's - something darker and rawer, where characters are thoroughly developed and at times killed off, and not aimed at a 3-90 market.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence
(2001)

Picture of human selfishness and beyond
I think for most this film is watched with little afterthought, as was my case prior. It's easy to make it to the end and believe all is well and you were given a happy ending - maybe even believing it to be a cop out. You might also see David as the victim throughout - something I do know is true, but there is another character that is much more a victim than he. And, of course, we can all guess at what Kubrick could have done. Yet, according to Kubrick's long time assistant, who was with Kubrick from from Barry Lyndon to Eyes Wide Shut, he states Kubrick was pressing Spielberg to direct while he would produce, and he also stated that it's impossible to guess at what Kubrick would have done as he would never know until he was on set. He did say that the ending was true to Kubrick's vision... Keep in mind Kubrick was very open with Spielberg with his vision for this film, especially throughout the 1990's.

Anyways... There is no happy ending here. This is equally beautiful and devastating. On display is human selfishness that pays no mind to the ramifications of their actions. Recall the question posed to the professor early in the film; "If a robot could genuinely love a person, what responsibility does that person hold to that Mecha in return?" No one in the film had any sense of responsibility towards these beings. Instead humanity in the film acted as if it could control their creations and treated them as disposable property.

Was David's last day with what he believes to be his mother really her? Of course it wasn't - she died two thousand years prior. What he is interacting with was an approximation of Monica just as the blue fairy was an approximation that was shown to him prior. So he never really did see the woman he called his mother after all. Yet for all of David's unfulfilled wants and ill treatment there was another character shown in the film who's existence was far bleaker; Teddy. His first appearance in the film shows him shut down, placed in a box in a closet - essentially cast aside. Teddy is shown repeatedly throughout the film having to stitch himself up with needle and thread as no one else noticed he needed help nor would they do it for him. He is never a consideration - a fact which never improves, and possibly worsens, as David continues his journey. And that very last scene, where 'Monica' dies once more after that one 'final' day, and David shuts himself down; Teddy is shown climbing upon the bed - abandoned again but this time for good. Unlike David, Teddy never received any love to lose.

Ozark
(2017)

Blurzark
First season was great. Second was good. Third began to struggle. The fourth was, for me at least, a convoluted mess. Too many moving parts that weren't really necessary. Scenes that were not necessary. And the decision to split the last season was a dumb one when some of it should have ended up on the cutting room floor.

The Last Duel
(2021)

Could have been a 7 or an 8
I really have zero issues with the performances, production, etc. I actually did enjoy this but couldn't help but think that nearly half of this film is largely the same set of scenes repeated. 'His version', the other 'his version', and 'her version' of events... Couldn't there have been a better way to do this that does without seeing the same scenes over and over (for the most part)? Sadly, I much prefer The Duellists.

The Matrix Resurrections
(2021)

I guess I'm a masochist with a lot of time on my hands
I knew this was going to be bad going in. I watched this to try and conquer boredom during downtime at work and because I forgot to cancel HBO Max (again). Full disclosure is I am not a Matrix fan at all though, at the time - twenty-two years ago, I did enjoy the first film.

Where to begin? I guess first off is the fact that a movie shouldn't be made just to make it. This is clearly a case of a cash grab that, these days, is all to common - with a never ending parade of sequels. The plot of this thing is a convoluted mess while somehow being paper thin. Why is there a new actor playing Morpheus? If everyone but Neo and Trinity aged 60 years they could have easily had Laurence Fishburne reprise his role. This depiction of Morpheus is just horrid. The pacing with the action just feels artificial; the same old stuff you see in big budget flicks like Star Wars where the protagonists turn right just in time as the adversaries show up and then turn left for more of the same (this is the kind of stuff you see in cartoons for kids - it's that bad). The bad attempts at humor with that French guy were so bad they were funny. The parody of Warner Bros forcing the making Matrix IV was also awful - one could only wish maybe there is some truth lurking somewhere in there. The legacy of these Matrix films brought us tired slow motion that is now beyond cliche and yet, despite this fact, it's here again in spades.

Film making as an art has been in rapid decline, at least to me over the last decade. There are so many rehashes and sequels, and so little creativity and innovation in story telling, that it's mind numbing - but I suppose that is what the masses want. In my opinion a film has to justify its existence - which most films do not. This just jumped to the head of that list.

Above Majestic
(2018)

Amateur Hour
First off, let's get one thing straight. When it comes to documentaries there is an easy manner in which you can assess its creators; do they play constant creepy ambient music throughout the entire thing, irregardless if people are speaking. That is the case here. Further, when you watch many documentaries that are produced well and that aren't aiming for that low, low bar of a History Channel production, when they deliver information on its topic they also offer evidence to varying degrees. In regards to this 'film', as it continues it gets progressively odder while providing zero in terms of evidence.

People now, of course, know some academics, celebrities, politicians, etc, are pedophiles and there do exist human trafficking rings (usually for sexual slavery); on the other hand there has been no evidence of modern ritual human sacrifice. The content about the Third Reich is laughable as well; the Thule society was involved in the occult, not science. Further, Vril was a novel. As far as Antarctica goes, while it was probably the greatest army any nation has seen on this planet, the Third Reich was not a major naval power; the UK had their sites on Germany from the time of unification and Disraeli - they had neither the means to build these massive installations in Antarctica or the secrecy to do so. As far as the "Nazi" bell goes it is far more likely they recovered something that crashed and attempted to back-engineer it, just as the US would. Further, if the Third Reich had such alliances with these aliens and these massive installations at the south pole, then why did so many Waffen SS and high ranking officials flee to South America?!?

Anyways, I could go on and on. Don't get me started on David Wilcock. But what's the point? If you enjoy Coast to Coast AM and George Snorey you'll enjoy this for the "what if", sensationalized and exciting play on one's (perhaps the feeble) imagination. But seriously, don't walk away thinking some veil has been lifted. This "documentary" is garbage for anything other than entertainment.

Dune
(2021)

Look at all that pretty CGI!
Why does the emperor want to get rid of these people - why would he fear them? Why would the spice planet have anything to do with this - couldn't the Atreides be taken out without giving them the spice planet that is, for some reason, oh so important? What is spice and why is it important? By the way, who is the emperor? What's the Harkonnens story (beyond the one sentence we get)? Where is character development (it took me four tries to meander through this and I couldn't give a toss about anybody in this)? It's the year 10,191 so why is everyone running around like it's 1191 with swords? Why is the volume all over the place - with some parts so low you can hardly hear anything? Who cares - check out that CGI!

I can put two and two together and don't need my hand held but this story, as edited here, is hardly a story. This film is a convoluted mess and what they give you, if you are not a Dune fanatic that has read the books, is scant.

It seems some people forgot what movies are supposed to be about. Movies are supposed to tell stories first and foremost. If you watch a film and come out raving solely about the cinematography, the visuals, etc, something is wrong. And what's wrong is you just witnessed a vacant film propped and dressed up substantially by CGI and effects. Read the reviews people have written; you will see all sorts of comments on visuals and not much about the adaptation of the story. That's telling.

The Many Saints of Newark
(2021)

'A look at the formative years of ... Tony Soprano.' - Huh???
What the hell did I just watch? It felt like an inflated filler episode of some show that ends in a badly written climax. Very little to do with Tony Soprano and everything to do with Christopher's father Dickie. I want someone to tell me the actual plot of this film in one sentence.

The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch
(2020)

It's History Channel - what did you really expect?!?
This show is just pure junk. If you want to learn anything about Skinwalker Ranch read Kelleher and Knapp's book about it. In fact, if you want to learn anything stay away from History Channel.

American Horror Story: Valerie Solanas Died for Your Sins: Scumbag
(2017)
Episode 7, Season 7

The tired formulaic cracks are starting to show
I watched season eight before seven, and when I reached this episode, it was like a repeat of what tanked season 8 after the second episode (and when that became coven 3.5 it really sank). This is formulaic as the writers simply seem to run completely out of steam and have no idea where to take their story; so two-thirds of the way in they run out of gas then revert to the formula of inventing a second plot with different players that is against the first. This is the kind of writing that should be making tween and teen content at CW or WB.

American Horror Stories: The Naughty List
(2021)
Episode 4, Season 1

Thought this would get better after Rubber (wo)Man?
Not really. This is yet another vapid, ill-conceived episode. I'll admit, episode three might have been an exception to the rule - I wouldn't know as I fell asleep during it, but I seriously can't help but wonder how and why this series was renewed for a second season - someone needs to make a trashy reality TV show based on the suits that green lit this. This rivals the first two episodes in just how absolutely vacant it is. What audience are they trying to target with this? Whoever that audience is it surely possesses far below room temp IQ's. After being exposed to this, as well as some very off American Horror Story seasons, I'm walking away with the firm belief that Falchuk and Murphy would have a 50% chance of writing their way out of a paper bag.

American Horror Stories: Rubber (Wo)man: Part One
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 1

Murder house again? What could be worse?!?
I'll tell you what is worse than yet another milking of the highest regarded AHS season; acting and writing that belong on something like CW - once again. Unless you are perhaps some TikTok addled teen this is garbage from the ground up. You really can't help but at times arrive at the conclusion that AHS writers are just flat out of fresh ideas. Hopefully going forward they can leave murder house, and any other ideas of milking past content, along with content that would fit right in on CW, on the shelf. I'm currently about ten minutes into part two of this nonsense and going to just skip ahead to episode three.

American Horror Story: Forbidden Fruit
(2018)
Episode 3, Season 8

When all else fails pull from old content
Saldy, this season deviates away from a fresh start into season 3.5. After the second episode my interest is waning with every new episode. Perhaps AHS needed a breather, and their knowing how popular the first three seasons are, well... There you go. This ends up playing out like a long scantly grown up version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or some WB show. For the love of god can't rehashing and remakes come to an end? I say this all the time about films, but perhaps I should ease up a bit - this is, after all, one step up from a network TV show. I just can't help but see this as a massive disappointment given the manner in which season eight begins - the Cooperative line, and the initial ambiguity surrounding it was refreshing... Only to go belly two episodes in.

Is it not enough to have a stable of returning cast members? Why the need to then dig up old stories to overturn allegedly new ones? A simple nod to an old season would be much more clever. To me, and yes, I know I am going to be in the minority on this, this is nothing more than lazy writing. Each season should be as fresh as possible with little to do with past seasons. Put plainly I hope this drawing out of an old deck simply ends here.

Hope Lost
(2015)

Yeah, this film had zero hope.
Seriously, I can't find anything to like in this. OK, the scene with the guy in the RV was alright. Outside of that this film is just vacant. The writing, the acting, the music, the try-hard attempt to be "shocking". But to be honest I went into this with zero hope so it delivered. I needed something to eat up some time and part of me wishes I just stared at the ceiling instead.

Thunder Force
(2021)

The perfect answer for all the Marvel and DC trite
Reading the reviews for this is pretty funny. People saying it's pure garbage, awful, and on and on. I guess they missed the point of it. Normally I can't stand comedies but this thing had me laughing many times - and that's a good thing. It wasn't try-hard comedy either as you typically get with comedies - it's funny because it's just absurd, and that's the entire point of the movie. I'd take this any day over the never ending trash coming out of Disney and now the DC stuff.

The Serpent
(2021)

Lifeless and Dull
Look., I'm not someone that suffers from ADD that requires non-stop events to unfold. Yet, the problem with this series is that at every turn they unfold this story in the most monotonous manner that it makes plodding through even the first episode a chore. Also, it doesn't help things that every five minutes they need to go forward some random number of months to illustrate a member of the Dutch consulate is hot on Sobhraj's trail - which begins prior to anything unfolding. This is a lesson on how to take enough material to make a great series, set in an interesting period, and make it lifeless and dull.
