Hotel Artemis
(2018)

Had a good idea but fails with execution
The movie itself had a lot of promising potential considering the loaded cast of talented actors and was set in an interesting setting but overall fell flat with how it all played out. I'm left with a plethora of questions. How on earth did Bautista take on 30 guys and survive? I get he's a big guy and can handle himself but it wasn't very convincing, on top of the fact the ending kind of just swept by it really quick to wrap It up. The French assassins fight was also cut short and left wanting more. What happened to the Asian guy? The movie set it up as if he was going to show back up and he never did. The cops whole subplot felt pointless because of how short it was and they never played more with the scenario of her getting caught in the hotel. Sterlings brothers arc also just felt wrapped up and short as well. And too fly Jeff goldblums role just felt like a cameo because of how small it was. All in all, the characters could've all had more things to do but alas the movie was too short to really explore anything more than the soulless, one-dimensional cut that we all experienced.

All over the place
I have one question. Is baz allergic to making a scene longer than 30 seconds? This movie is essentially ruined by one incoherent scene after another. At one point there's 6 different scenes going on at once spanning over years and it only lasts about 2 minutes. At this point I knew this movie was going to feel like 5 hours. What really could've been a great biopic is ruined by incompetent editing. It literally feels like a 2.5 hour long trailer I didn't even know I was watching a movie. Austin butler is the only saving grace in this movie. His acting is on point and without it I would've probably walked out of the theater in the first 20 mins. Also, rap music? Did you not learn your lesson with great gatsby? Period pieces(especially one about rock and roll) do not need rap music by Doja cat playing in the background. It's extremely distracting and makes you look like an idiot when you put it in an Elvis movie.

Prey
(2022)

A good direction
Have to say, I was skeptical going in but it is definitely worth a watch especially since it's on Hulu. It's a lot of fun and action is more than there. Some parts take you out of the story like how a full on Comanche tribe is speaking perfect English to one another instead of their native language and some dialogue was a bit cringe. Other than that the movie was great I'd recommend.

Birdgirl

The agenda strikes again
What's a quick way to make as much money as possible while also simultaneously putting in as little effort as you can? Take a successful show and just recreate it, but change the main character to a female. We get it. People want strong female characters, and that's cool. But you have to actually write a good character for it to work. This is just utter laziness for the sake of a quick cash grab. Taking advantage of peoples nostalgia. It's already been done before and won't be the last.

Roma
(2018)

2 hour long walking and talking commercial
This is by far the movie that has frustrated me the most. A movie is supposed to be digital storytelling, I repeat STORYtelling. If a movie has no plot and no direction then what is the point other than if you enjoy watching people walk around and talk senselessly for hours in black and white. Yes it's pretty and the cinematography is more than there, but that's not what you rely on to create a movie, especially when that's all that's there. Overall this is a lazy attempt at movie making that somehow surpassed the academy and has duped them into handing them awards for it. You can't film people doing pointless things for 2 straight hours, include no plot, slap a title on there, and call it a movie.
