In Fabric
(2018)

Very weird and very funny
It is hard to take a movie about a killer dress seriously so I was not surprised how whacky this one was but I'll admit it did get a little repetative after a while. It was very funny and had a nice sexy vibe to it. The camera work was excellent and it gave me strong Italian vibes with the music and colors. Worth a watch!

The Nightingale
(2018)

Very different from the Babadook
I really liked The Babadook so was willing to watch whatever the director made next. This one doesn't have any supernatural elements but is very much a horror movie in that it is very horrific. I do not usually have a hard time watching movies but I had to look away at certain points during this one. Very tense and very disturbing.

The Shed
(2019)

Kinda cool
This one screened at some cool film festivals and had some cool people involved so my expectations were a little high but I was not entirely disapointed with the film. Some of it felt amateuish but other parts were quite interesting. I liked the kinda fresh take on vampire movies but felt that the bullying themes were a little on the nose and annoying.

See No Evil 2
(2014)

Not as good as 1 but still good
After the end of the first one, I didn't think there was anyway they could make a sequel to See No Evil! I was happy to see the return of Kane and have liked some of the Soska Sister's work so was stoked to finally get to see this. There were some really cool kills and some great characters but the dialogue mostly didn't work for me. It also occasionally felt like more of the same but that's not really a bad thing.

Polaroid
(2019)

Would have worked better as a Goosebumps episode.
I liked the main idea and the hook of setting this around a polaroid camera was interesting to me but this felt like it would have been better as a short film. The special effects were really bad considering how well made everything else was. It's like the studio lost faith in the movie and didn't give them enough money to do a good job on the computer effects. This is another reason that practical effects should always be the way to go. I was also surprised how boring some of it was.

Abduction
(2019)

Good in a pinch
If you have a modern action movie hankering you could do worse than this. Scott Adkins is ALWAYS the man but in this one he is sadly not the leading character despite what the poster suggests. The more dramatic scenes do not work very well but the action scenes were satisfying. I suggest watching this one with a couple beers and a couple buddies so you can talk over the boring parts.

Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made
(2018)

Very cool movie
Antrum was so sucessful at pulling off it's excellent concept that it actually felt real for most of the film like The Blair With Project did for me on the first viewing. The performances are mostly very good but there were a couple secondary ones that almost ruined the illusion for me. That being said, this is a very well made film and I was extremely entertained and excited the entire time.

Doctor Sleep
(2019)

Meh
I found this too long and too boring. I didn't think the shining needed a sequel and this proved that I was right. The best parts were when they showed stuff from the first one but even those parts were not as exciting. I always meant to read the book so this saved me the time. Who knows, maybe the book is more exciting.

No Man's Land: The Rise of Reeker
(2008)

Whoa! There's another reeker movie?!
I loved the first reeker and somehow had no idea that they made another one! This was more of the same and not really as good as the first but it still delivered some very cool horror action. There's not really enough here to continue with more reeker movies as it feels like they have done everything the can with the character but this was a very pleasant surprise!

The Lighthouse
(2019)

Stunning
This film was completely stunning. I couldn't take my eyes from the screen. It is so well put together and simply awesome. Eggers is the real deal. I can't wait to see more movies from him.

The Art of Self-Defense
(2019)

The art of sleeping
I knew it was a mistake to take a break from watching horror movies. This film was very pretentious, unfunny and predictable. The performances were intentionally dry which is fine but left me very bored. Some very cute doggos though.

Brick
(2005)

Cool noir
I really liked how this felt like an old school noir but with teenagers. It did get a little annoying sometimes but overall it had a great feel and some very good performances. Crazy to think this filmmaker ended up making Star Wars!

Hagazussa
(2017)

Pretentious ripoff of The Witch
The 'cool kids' say this is one to watch. They say it will 'melt your face'. They say it is 'metal'. But this is nothing more than a lazy ripoff of The Witch. There were a couple shots that were quite beautiful and some interesting witchcraft stuff but I was mostly very bored while watching this.

Haunt
(2019)

Good enough
Haunt follows a group of boring people going through a boring haunted house as they get attacked by men with generic masks overtop of 'masks'. The kills lack creativity but there was a mean spirit to the film that kept me interested. They randomly threw in too much backstory for the lead that ended up going nowhere.

Dolemite Is My Name
(2019)

Best Netflix movie of all time!
This movie was so fun! It kinda felt like Ed Wood but with a cool 70s setting. It was really great to see Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes back in action. I will be watching this again.

I really need to watch the original Dolemite movie now. It looks hilarious.

Red Letter Day
(2019)

Pleasantly surprised
I had zero expectations going into this and actually found it to be very entertaining. It was cool seeing one of these types of movies with a middle aged mother as the lead character kicking people's asses. I really liked the concept too but wish that they showed more of what was happening outside of the suburbs on the red letter day. It felt like it went by too quickly but I enjoyed the film overall.

Extremity
(2018)

Pretty cool
There are a lot of these haunt-gone-wrong movies out these days but this one had a gritty mean spirit that the others are lacking in. I really liked the use of colour and the twist worked for me.

Paranormal Activity 4
(2012)

Not my fav but still good
The scares are still effective but something feels like it is missing. It is so nice to have Katie back in the series though. These Catfish dudes turned out to be pretty good filmmakers.

Paranormal Activity 3
(2011)

Best of the series!
This series is so scary and this is for sure the scariest! All of the shots on the fan were so cool and I really liked the witch mythology. I wish they would make a new one of these.

The Greasy Strangler
(2016)

Hootie tootie disco cutie!!
Whoa! This movie is crazy!! I never knew what was going to happen next and all of the gross characters were oddly lovable. It felts very good natured given how sickening the behaviour of the father and son was. A modern cult classic!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
(2019)

Kids need horror too!
I think this will help create a new batch of young lifelong horror fans. Some very scary moments and they were able to make the plot device of reading these stories from the book in the film interesting. I'm not sure it needed all that Vietnam stuff though.

In the Shadow of the Moon
(2019)

Netflix SciFi Movies All Look the Same
This film had interesting ideas but I am getting tired of all of the Netflix SciFi Movies looking and feeling the same. The director has made some very cool movies but this is not his best. I guessed the twist very early on. Still, worth a watch.

Papa, sdokhni
(2018)

High energy good times
This kept popping up at all the genre festivals so I had high hopes and was very impressed. Super violent and super funny. Had a very fun time watching this with a late night crowd.

Freaks
(2018)

More of the same
The filmmakers want us to believe that this is an edgy indie SciFi film from the opening moments but it quickly becomes apparent that this is just another superhero movie. X-Men in a trailer park.

Terrifier
(2016)

Art the Killer Clown
Wow! This one is so gross. Clowns don't usually freak me out but this is a very freaky clown. He just kept smiling while doing this terrible stuff.

Loved the gore. It was very well done. The acting was pretty good for a low budget movie but this one is all about the cool kills. Can't wait to watch part two.
