Tenet
(2020)

Better Than Iterstellar...but not by much
Yes, it is a very expensive production. It is so loud that you could easily go deaf after twenty minutes... My point is that Jean Cocteau was doing all this in "Orphée" with much more artistic integrity... Do yourself a favour and purchase the Blu Ray and slowly watch it backwards (this way it will seem forwards)! Don't worry about the dialogue being gibberish. It is. Forwards OR backwards. Yet, in hindsight Tenet is a masterpiece compared to the pretentious "theoretical physics...piece" that was Interstellar. Please bring back Inception and the fun we had watching you 'older' work.

The Vow
(2020)

It get worse...much worse
If any of our millennial reviewers (in residence) believe that the people who got caught in NXIVM's web are stupid or simply bourgeois people in need of a hobby-think again! Either some of the viewers have been asleep for the past ten years (NXIVM was all over the media and the subject of a year-long podcast about a year ago) or so, or simply have the empathy of a Social Media Influencer. However the first episode shows NXIVM in a light that is mostly benign that anyone judging (as WASPy really??) the participants has to be mean spirited or uneducated.

What happens after? A mix of Scientology-like mentality and sex trafficking coupled with manipulation that can make any so-called logical (cult-proof) individuals fall into a trap like 'The Vow' so, very inadvertently. Unfortunately so many of us "smart" people are only a sliver...a weakness away from losing all critical thinking. Brace yourself!

Bloodride
(2020)

So fun!!!
All I'll say is: a hell of a lot of fun...from Scandinavia, again. The photography is also flawless!

Freud
(2020)

Just be entertained!!!
Don't expect to watch a biography of Sigmund Freud but rather a fictional thriller starring a (young) Freud starting in Vienna, constantly mocked in a time of political unrest... The photography is beautiful and somewhat reminded me of "Penny Dreadful" without its actor's excesses or the abuse of CGI. If this series is taken as a thriller featuring the character of Sigmund Freud and not as some biopic...it is very enjoyable. However at some time I would love to see a series/motion picture about Freud -something like "A Dangerous Method" minus Jung...please!!

Un frère
(2018)

A little gem of a film!
A truly heartwarming story... Un Frère (A Brother) is an independent film film from France that follows the lives of two teenage guys who meet during the course of a summer. Tom, a shy sixteen year-old meets Felix, a seventeen year-old, who is rather outgoing and fearless and falls for him... This short 1hour10mins film is more of a feel good (soft drama) affair than a preachy American LGBT movie hence a breath of fresh air! It is amazingly good in its execution and the quality of directing/photo is simply stunning for a kickstarter production shot roughly in 15 days. I also love the actors. Special credit should be given to the little girl who plays the young sister: her talent blew me away!

Hereditary
(2018)

A third act in the fog
Obviously Ari Aster channeled his inner Kubrick during the making of Hereditary. I was instantly drawn into this 'Hereditary' world in the first two acts. The music and pace pleased me immensely (so did the numerous references to The Shining...more or less in subtlety ) thus creating an eerie athmospheric environment, building up to certain dread; at that point director and actors had me convinced and looking forward to the third act... SPOILERS: Then the cat comes out of the bag! The film is about witchcraft, demonic possession and the whole shebang so often seen in movies these days...and the movie picks up speed OMG! Toni Colette makes all these faces (in spite of a grand performance) where she looks more as if she chewed on a mix of Jalapeño & Dill Pickles than expressing horror/panic. Don't look for Gabriel Byrne he's as present as Colette's 'spider walk' is dull & laughable. I'm certain if this film had been a true financial blockbuster, it would have inspired countless parodies! Yet, as I absolutely loved the first two acts, I give 7/10 for the beautiful aesthetics and sound environments. Think of third act as DVD extra... Gosh, for my first review I sure signed in late...oh well, if it can bring a smile to someone's face.
