A Confession
(2019)

A Sign of the Times
In 1984, when the Police and Criminal Evidence Act replaced the antiquated Judges Rules, nobody could have foreseen the dreadful consequences that this drama so vividly portrays. It would have been inconceivable that police procedures would have become paramount and the realities of dead bodies and grieving relatives judicially disregarded.

This story should be compulsory viewing for anyone who cares about our criminal justice system. The background and sub-plots are exceptionally realistic and the acting is superb. An excellent programme.

How odd, I really like this drama!
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this when it was first promoted.. In fact, as a straight male, I had pretty well written it off before it even hit the screen - lesbian love being hardly my thing. So, I was pleasantly surprised right from the start to find myself seriously drawn in to this compelling drama. It is superbly written, the acting is amazing, the locations are stunning and the characterisation is seriously believable for the era. Even the music is first class as it bounces us along with Miss Lister as she strides purposefully from one confrontation to another. This series is excellent and well worth watching - for everyone.

Summer of Rockets

Politically correct nonsense - but fun
Anything starring Keeley Hawes is going to be worth watching and this little drama is no exception. It's a fun bit of nonsense - very reminiscent of an episode of The Avengers from the late sixties - but far more elaborate. As usual with the BBC, the sub-plots hammer every politically correct stereotype going. The villains are all white, middle-aged, middle class males, the heroes are all either from a minority group or disabled. Of course, the police are racist and the young white men (except for the gay man and the vegetarian) are violent boors. Even the poor little debutantes get a drubbing. All boringly predictable - but it was fun seeing Lily Sacofsky giving one of the nasty young men a taste of her knee! To be fair though, I did enjoy this drama and would recommend it as a lightweight bit of entertainment.
