The Shuttered Room
(1967)

Very Gothic 60's cool
Someone needs to make this available on tape. The creepiness of this film really got to me as a kid watching it on Chiller Thriller theater in the 70's. It's got a real low budget scary quality which adds to the brilliant photography and sinister jazz score. The style of the movie looks like it was shot by a peeping tom.

A must see, horror classic! Voyeurism at it's best!

Amanti d'oltretomba
(1965)

Best showcase for Barbara Steele
This Italian Gothic is mainly a showcase for the beautifully haunting Barbara Steele. You can't get hung up on the plot or worry so much about the cheesy dialogue. The photography and music is excellent and Miss Steele is mesmerizing. The last scene of the movie looks amazing with Barbara in a ghostly white negligee and long wild black hair covering half her face as she comes back from the dead to seek revenge. Her face is almost skeletal with huge dark eyes and sharp cheekbones. Very scary and erotic. If you like that 60's gothic horror S&M look, this is a must see!

Carnival of Souls
(1962)

See the coolest low budget film ever
I saw this movie on TV when I was child of 11 and taking organ lessons at the time. Well, it definately made an erie impression. When I discovered it was a cult film after I grew up, I was not surprised! If your the type of person who does not understand brilliantly bad, bad being so good, then this is not for you. Personally, anyone who

fails to see the haunting quality of this film which is perfectly complimented by the creepy, lovely soundtrack of organ music is definately someone I would not be friends with. Candace Hilligloss, as Mary Henry is so perfect in this part! Just imagine a Gwyneth Paltrow type girl but a little more exagerated crossed with a haute couture mannequin of the early 1960's. She's very unique which makes her bad acting work very well in this film! The ghouls look like New Wave goth kids ala Robert Smith of The Cure! I wonder if he knows that his look was influenced by Herk, the director? I own the video and have seen this movie many many times. One of my favorite scenes is the one where Mary freaks out at the church organ while practicing and goes into a trance. I also love love love the dancers in the pavilion! I mean, as a kid I was hooked! What a great technique to speed up the film and add that ghostly laughter! Those were the days when people really knew what creativity is all about! See this movie! I also own the soundtrack. It's fantastic!
