Superbad
(2007)

It was good
I thought the first ten or fifteen minutes were the worst part of the movie .. they dragged on and on and were just profanity and teen bravado.

And then .. the movie got SOOOO much better. It was funny, sweet, and mostly believable. (Okay, I think the girls were "hotter" than those guys could ever have achieved in real life. But otherwise, it seemed relatively realistic to the way teens think and act. Hopefully, not realistic to the way the police think and act, though! ;->)

I liked that the plot was not formulaic and contained a number of twists and surprises. Lots of good jokes, funny, a good summer movie .. I liked it!

Hairspray
(2007)

I loved it!
This was a really enjoyable movie ... warm and fun, lots of good characters, great dancing and music, etc. It touched on a serious subject (segregation), but managed to do it without feeling heavy, preachy or angry.

Amazing performances by everyone .. especially John Travolta! Little Inez was adorable .. and a great dancer. I loved Queen Latifah ... she was amazing.

The second half of the movie feels much "stronger" and better than the first. I thought this movie definitely got better as it went along, in terms of story, acting, singing, and dancing (basically, everything).

The Simpsons Movie
(2007)

Boy, was this movie boring
I'd watched a few episodes of the Simpsons when it first came out, and I thought it was generally regarded to be a fairly funny show. So, I had expectations that this movie would be fairly funny and enjoyable.

Boy, was I wrong. For starters, the animation is HORRIBLE ... below even Saturday cartoon quality. The characters aren't explained .. who in the heck are these people, and what on earth are they referring to? A character would appear, utter a couple of lines, and not be heard from again for the rest of the movie .. leaving me wondering who they were and why they appeared in the first place.

Also, the storyline was STUPID ... very simplistic, and ignoring all obvious solutions to all problems (like digging under the dome). It felt like it was geared more towards small children than adults.

I was really disappointed. :-<

Happy Feet
(2006)

First half is much better than the second
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and don't regret having gone to see it. I feel like the animators, actors doing voices and Savion Glover (hope I spelled that right!) wasted some of their efforts on an inferior-quality script.

I admire the environmental theme, but felt like it was being shoved down our throats .. with no real solutions suggested, either. Some portions of the script were not explained well .. like how on earth Mumbles got back from the zoo to his family. Okay .. and why can't Mumble molt correctly, and why does his face look different from all of the other adult penguins? That's never explained, either.

I laughed and smiled my way through the first half of the movie, and it felt like the second half dragged on endlessly and made little sense. :-< I was expecting to love this movie a lot more than I did.
