Iron Fist
(2017)

Lost in the mountains, back, bare feet, into civilization
Jee, where have I seen this with a much more gorgeous protagonist?

Oh yes, it was Travis Fimmel in: "Tarzan" year of production 2000. Check it out to see the real thing.

Great series of only, unfortunately, 8 episodes. Producers always do the same thing, as it gets interesting... they leave us with the flavour in the mouth!!!

And this one has the same premises, 3 millionaires, father, mother and a very young son, lost in a plane crash, who knows where. Only here it is in snowy mountains, whereas "Tarzan" happened in the hot jungle.

But, after all, again, whoever is left in the family wants to control the "billion company business" and don't need a "pretty" savage to appear from nowhere to take their treasures from them.

It seems that in these present series it won't be a good looking police woman and an "aunt" saving the lost soul, but a teacher of martial arts. It had to have a difference!

In any case, to me, it shows that script writers have lost inspiration to put on paper something unique and interesting and they recur to copy good former ideas and re-make a more elaborate and boring series.

With my blessings!

The Great Wall
(2016)

It may, or may not, contain spoilers
Good night every one.

I give a 3 stars to this movie, out of pity, because in my opinion it deserves a -3.

How could you, Matt, accept to work in such a... melé of monstrosities?

It is a melange of horror, scifi of the worst quality, disconcerting adventures, bad script, nonsensical situations, and exuberant beasts, by more tons, that MGI can put in ten movies of the Jurassic times. It's like millions of ants running away from their burning nest. Only the beasts of this movie have the size of a whale.

All in all we can add to this lunacy the very advanced defenders of the Wall, more valiant than Wonder Woman with artifacts of war that the Russians would had paid in gold to have for their Revolution. That is what I saw in this film, other people might boo me.

Blessings!

The Fault in Our Stars
(2014)

No spoilers
Obviously, Mr. denizmoraligil, you had not to deal by proxy with no one suffering of the "much the same in the movie". Because if you had, nothing but "that much the same" would be important in your life.

You have 24/7, with luck/ 364 days to think "much in the same". There is no future to plan, there is no happiness to program and pursue, there is not even joy in watching a sunset, or in listening a symphony.

And if you are lucky enough in finding love and have the valour to let yourself immerse in the feeling, it will never be without remembering that "to get a Rainbow you'll had to do with the rain".

So, Mr. denizmoraligil, may God forbid that you experience that "much of the same", but also may God grant you a bit of charity and understanding to be able to discover the hidden beauty that some people have the heart to let out and accept even in the dreadful monotony of every one of their days, hours and seconds.

To me, this movie is a "master piece" that shades feelings, worthy of 10*.

The Theory of Everything
(2014)

To begin with
Dear, Mr. DeSanto, Javier Bardem never performed in "My Left Foot", it was another English actor: Daniel Day-Lewis who made that film. This clarified lets go to: "The Theory of Everything".

Well done for having based the main script in the book written by Jane Hawking. I cannot imagine a whole movie where us -the public- would have to strive trying to understand Dr. Hawking's Cosmologyc theories spoken in his, then, poor English skills, doe to the disintegration of his muscles.

Therefore as it is, is pure perfection, for us to comprehend the heartbreaking situation that everyone -including himself- around him went through. And I speak with the validation of my own experience, being an artist and now, invalid.

As for the movie by itself... there are no words to describe how marvellously well accomplished it is, from directing, to acting. No doubt next Oscar will go to Eddie Redmayne -bravo Eddie, for again I find myself in him- because he has captured the intensity of the emotional, the physical and the moral state of a soul that being brilliant, never-the-less, has become opaque.

There is a series made by the BBC and acted by Dr. Hawking on his theories, if anyone is interested on this side of his achievements.

Blessings!

The Giver
(2014)

Simply "marvelous"
The whole movie keeps you to the limit of your emotions, yet portraying just the opposite. Not only it is very well written, fantastically interpreted and, obviously, directed. I found myself pondering about the difficulties of carrying a life with no sentiments, albeit the injections, simply because the mind is far too powerful to put a lid on it. And I recalled a sentence written in a Spanish book -Paradox- where Jesus converts a cruel man and tells him in the end: "Of course God does not allow you to forget, if you forgot... how could you forgive?" "That is the question". Remembering is much too very important above all to be able to FORGIVE, then... it is possible to forget. Blessings!

Pompeii
(2014)

Anyone behind the camera has brains?
I can't believe I had the "energy" to watch it to the end.

NO plot, only Romans killing people. NO family ties, or friends interaction, or normal live in a normal town.

NO emotion, not even the gladiators had an impulse here.

NO people, only a few dozen running here and there, but without fear in their faces.

Even the horse that was spooked at the beginning by a small tremor, in the end is so comfy in between all the pirotecnia that seems eating carrots.

And the protagonist, ah, the good Kit Harington!, through the whole "action" has the same hair do and the appropriate lack of a smile.

In short: "A want to be Roman movie that happened to happen when the Vesuvius decided to, cheaply, blow up with trickery made by the kids in a class of Chemistry.

DEPLORABLE.

El barco
(2011)

3 season I swallowed of this series
And I did so, because being Spaniard, I really wanted it to do well, and I really wanted see something spectacular, as the theme is innovative. My bigger disappointment is with the writers, since in any episode that you may watch, suddenly they insert romantic scenes that are absolute "ludicracy" and spoils the thrill that could've been created, if any. Some times it seems they've run out of budget, others of ideas, qui lo sa! I am in my 70s, and besides being myself a writer, I have been divorced, widow and separated, thus, I know what I am talking about romance. The only part and actor wordy of congratulations is "Burbuja", Iván Massagué really plays not just the most difficult role of them all, but masterly, and all he does has its logic to be. So, if you are bored and have nothing else in view, watch it, if not... go for better winds. Blessings! ClearDawn*

The Men Who Stare at Goats
(2009)

Pure finesse!
I laughed so much I ended coughing! Even more so when I imagined how hard it had to be for the actors to remain that serious trough the hilariously stupidities of almost every scene.

I found it brilliant because it had not an ounce of sanity, and it is difficult now a days to catch a good, funny script that says so much in saying nothing. It's all in the eyes!

Do not expect coherence, it cannot have it and that's the geniality of the whole movie. All the characters are as absurd as they can be, ambivalent, retarded, inspired and generous... No need to look for more ingredients to make a perfect funny concoction, worthy of your time and money.

Bad Seed: The Truth About Our Food
(2006)

I just saw a few seconds of the beginning and I am going to have nightmares for a long time.
For the love of God... do we need to see this horror too? It is bad enough that it happens, for there are many Nazis in the world and not all are Germans. But the worst is that watching all these things, we get de-sensitize, and then people ask why there is suffering in the world. It is called "Atonement". If you believe in re-incarnation, as I do,think twice about your actions, think twice about what you consent to,for it might harbor fatal consequences for you in the future. The pain,"we humans", can inflict on other beings, doesn't matter the size, is beyond barriers! I thank God that I do not eat red meat, but if I had,I would quit now for good. Not at this price. Blessings!

Silk
(2007)

It is sooooooo slow
that even my heart went down to 20 bits a minute.

But, lets not forget the score. The composer just played a few random cords for 2 hours and... voilá, we had a complete movie!

The best extras... the silk worms.

I give it a 2 because the photography was OK, though I don't think this is enough reason to make a film of this caliber.

If you feel like to have a very, very relaxing, boring movie session, by all means, go to see it.

Blessings!

El corazón de la tierra
(2007)

Based on fact, a romantic epic.
This film is ambitious, yet well directed and executed as far as it goes with the possible dramatic facts that happened in Río Tinto (Teinted River), the photography and the acting of everyone, including the extras. I was enjoying it until the romance was included, because it does not add any value to the history in question and shows a bit indecisive about what it really should be. On the other hand, the sound is absolutely depressing. I am Spanish, but I would have loved to see this movie without any dubbing. The actor "de Almeida" has an impressive voice and he speaks fluently Spanish and English, I don't see the need to spoil his dialog with an eclectic tone. Had the movie had more of the local problem plot, the English in English and the Spanish in Spanish with the doe subtitles, I would've given it a 9.

El espinazo del diablo
(2001)

Another of those?
During the "Spanish Civil War" anything was conceivable. The theme of this film is one of those conceivable things.

I will say nothing about the scheme used to make this movie -I hate spoilers- for I would like everyone to have the same good surprise that I had in watching it, but I must give you my opinion: Though it is listed as "horror", personally I would have to make a new genre to put this film in it, since under any light you look at it, amidst its topic of ghostly a tale and inhumanity... is all too human! Being what it may seem "another of those", it really is nothing else but a work of art incredibly made, incredibly directed, incredibly performed by an incredible cast of children actors and incredibly presented! It is no wonder that of the 6 nominations it received, it got 6 prices.
