Smile
(2009)

Interesting start, then you get kicked in the face by horrible actors and very "special" effects
"Smile" is a below average horror movie. You could say it's pretty bad even. The plot is thin, boring and predictable.

I was having hopes at the beginning of this flick, the oriental flair in Morocco and setting was very appealing to me and created some atmosphere. Also, the appearance of Armand Assante kept my hopes up.

However all this vanishes when the group starts the trip on their own. You notice all flaws quite soon: Dialogue is often irrelevant and irrational. The acting was horrible, you don't root for any of the characters.

Then there's the stupid plot where the characters die after a picture has been taken by an old, doomed camera.

Special Effects? Well, they are special that's for sure. The death scenes and effects are probably the weakest part of this movie, they were all very goofy and just plain bad.

Assante is in the movie for like 5 minutes, he probably noticed what a piece of garbage he was acting in halfway through.

Don't waste your time. 1/10

Solos
(2008)

Solos: A failure on all levels
I had the pleasure to watch this 'gem' of horror genre in cinema.

The story is about a little girl who gets separated from her mother during a zombie virus outbreak and now has to live on her own, wandering through abandoned, dead villages or suburbs to search for food. Killer-Commandos were sent out to clean up the place, so not to be mistaken for a zombie is high priority on her list.

Because she is immune to the zombie virus, not a single zombie is a threat for this girl. Eventually she finds other kids who are also immune and they group up to find salvation at the ocean - or something.

Sounds awesome? It gets better: Not only the plot is completely destroyed by the main 'characters' being immune to zombies, the visuals are so extremely bad, irritating and unnecessary that you want to break the DVD in half and burn it after wards.

Expect long, pointless slow motion, blurred and shaky scenes even when nothing happens AT ALL. Watching 5 minutes of playing children with an overload of shitty effects and slow motion. GENIUS!

When the little girl remembers her mother, flashback scenes are used. Not one, but you'll see many of them. However, they are all equally annoying and mostly meaningless.

There was hardly any acting or dialog.

Sound effects do their part to slingshot this horror movie right into the dumpster.

This is no trashy-bad zombie movie but simply a VERY bad zombie movie.

1/10

The Hills Have Eyes
(2006)

Average Horror Movie
Well this movie was quite terrible. I did not watch the original but "The Hills Have Eyes" would probably not receive an award for a groundbreaking movie with its story about contaminated, mentally disordered and horrible looking people who live in a desert and kill trespassers, including the typical "stuck-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-having-a-car-accident" scenario. You see, this is a classical horror movie. And you should not look forward to something you have not seen before in other horror movies.

The only difference between this and other horror movies would be that every individual including the "desert freaks", seem to have their own personality and it also comes clear that one of those freaks seems to be more intelligent than his fellows due to his acting and "communication skills" (in a primitive way). I didn't find a lot of shocking moments in this film - many scenes were just too predictable, and some were pretty weird (keyword freaks in the caravan).

Overall, i was not really impressed about this film - a baby, splitting up family members etc - so, old news here and what remains is an average horror movie. I rate this movie with 4 stars, because the gore effects and other special effects were nicely done and could definitely shock you plus the one or other thrilling scene, but like i said before you should not await an innovative masterpiece here.

Expect a good dose of violence!

(sorry for any spelling/grammar failures, English in not my native language)
