They Nest
(2000)

An excellent Made-For-TV Film
The movie Creepy Crawlers (They Nest) is probably one of the best, if not the best, made-for-TV movies ever made. The acting, story, directing, cinematography, special effects and visual effects are all top notch. It looks as if this film would have come out in theaters. Also for being a made-for-TV movie, it is quite bloody/gory, and has some very intense scenes. A must see film for anyone who likes creature movies, or rather, movies in general.

MPAA RATING: PG-13 for creature violence and peril.

NOTE ABOUT THE MPAA RATING: I was surprised that this movie ended up with a PG-13 rating. It is a rather intense and gory movie with scenes that seem more suitable in an R-rated movie. Consider this a very hard PG-13 rated film that somehow miraculously passed with a PG-13.

Final Grade: 9/10

The Core
(2003)

The best disaster film of all time, one of the best films of 2003, and one of the most fun films of all time.
The mother of all disaster movies has arrived. Look no further than The Core. It sets the example for what a disaster movie should be. Character development, some smart dialogue, great actors and intense action sequences with truly awesome visual effects make this on top of all the rest. I was surprised at the amount of character development in this film(not like an art house filmch!], but unstandard in the world of disaster movies). The writers, director and actors all worked well to bring life into the characters and have you care about them, instead of just waiting around hoping one of them will die. Smart dialogue is also present in this movie. Comebacks, one-liners, solutions, equations and numerous other speech uttered comes through clear and well done. It also helps that since the movie is serious(which it truly is...more believable than some non-disaster movies), it plays it fun(definitely). Aaron Eckhart...what can I say? Truly a great actor along with everyone else in this movie. Hilary Swank, Stanley Tucci, Delroy Lindo, DJ Qualls, and Tcheky Karyo all bring their characters life into our eyes before us on the screen, and all so believable.

But the main thing about this movie is: THE VISUAL EFFECTS. These effects are extremely well done. I give my highest regards to everyone involved in creating and bringing to the screen some of the best visual effects to be seen yet. The scenes inside the Earth are definitely of note, as it feels as if we are actually there. Above ground...the effects are astounding as well. A sequence in Rome featuring thousands of lightning bolts destroying everything, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge being decimated, The United States Shuttle making a crash landing and other effects so numerous, but so well done, that we should give the Academy Award to the makers of this film NOW.

Definitely see this movie. I would pay full price to see it, and I've seen it twice so far this year. Truly one of the best movies of 2003, one of my favorite movies of all time, and the best disaster movie of all time. Worth the money I've spent, and I hope to see it again before it leaves theaters. This is a DVD I will absolutely must have when it comes out.

MPAA Rating: PG-13(Sci-fi life/death sequences and brief strong language)

Spiders II: Breeding Ground
(2001)

Really, really bad
This has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. The first film, Spiders, was a fun movie. It constantly poked fun at itself, and delivered what it intended to bring to the screen. This one...I say 'What the hell were they thinking?'. It berily even mentions the spiders throughout most of the film, and then they appear, and the way all of it comes about is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. Filled with bad dialogue, a bad story that is not coherent and bad visual effects(the first one was a lot better, and this movie actually steals scenes from the first one to "enhance" the story and move it forward). The only, very slight, redeeming factor about this movie is the blood and gore, of which there is even very little(and some of it is too fake). Extremely bad, and I pity anyone involved in this movie.

Still, none of the violence/gore can pull it from me giving it the worst rating of all.

MPAA Rating: R(violence and gore, language and nudity)

Final Grade: 1/10

Tecumseh: The Last Warrior
(1995)

Is this supposed to be good?
Wow. I haven't seen a film this bad in a really long time. Based on Tecumseh and his last days, uniting Indian groups to fight against William Harrison, this film does nothing to justify the historical points, and make it interesting. It seems as if they just decided to make a film with the same characters as events in the past, take the places and make a movie. The problem...we don't care about the characters. They are not fully developed enough to feel about what they're doing, or what they're working towards. It also doesn't help that it gets confusing trying to keep track of who is who. The actors are just plain bad as well, and the dialogue that they're given is just laughable and comes off as cheesy.

THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS FILM IS: NO BLOOD! I thought that these wars were supposed to be bloody? If you're trying to make a movie with wars historically accurate, blood is a must to fully draw the viewer into the film. It makes you feel as if you are actually present, watching the events unfold before your eyes. These types of movies, should not even be allowed to be TV-Movie-ized, or suffer from non-gore, family-friendly G, PG, or PG-13 ratings. Shame on Hallmark for this. That is probably the highest factor in this film's bad rating. Let this be a note in the future to all companies making war movies.

Rating: Unrated, but Made-for-TV (Contains-Nothing objectionable except the bad acting, dialogue and unrealistic war sequences).

Doragon kuesuto VII: Eden no senshitachi
(2000)

The Best RPG I've Played, EVER.
Extremely intelligent, extremely fun RPG with a cast of interesting characters. Unique battle system found throughout all Dragon Warrior games is in first-person view(rest of game is third-person) looking at the monsters. Battles are quickly fought, and never repetitive. Spells and creatures are animated within battle, giving them a fresh feel from the games on the NES, which just had the monsters flash when they attacked you. Lots of dialogue(though never boring). Lots of quests, and numerous sidequests. Game is long in length(about 100 hours, if you're lucky), and most likely around 120 hours or more. Worth every penny I spent on it, and I've played it twice before.

Final Grade: A+ Rating: Teen for mild language, mild violence and suggestive themes.

The New Guy
(2002)

Smart and funny
Smart and funny new teen movie is more fun than pretty much all other teen comedies. Using a formula that other teen movies use, this one takes it a step further.

DJ Qualls plays Dizzy, a high school student whose days at high school are not going too well. He gets sent to prison, and gets tips on how to get his image boosted. To become the popular kid, it takes time and practice. Because of school not going so well, he decides to get himself expelled from school and gets sent to another high school. There he meets the hottie cheerleader Eliza Dushku. Taking his tips tat he learned in prison, he changes the school around, uniting everyone and making a name for himself.

DJ Qualls does a very, very excellent as the lead here. He very clearly shows his emotions and knows how to act. I can see more roles for him to play in the future. Eliza Dushku...what can I say? Complete hottie, who does such an excellent job(as always) as the cheerleader who changes after meeting Dizzy. Any fans of her will love her very much in this film. *People who love Eliza as much as I do, will love the scenes of her posing in many different bikinis*

This movie is actually very high on the sexual content, and it shows. But its very well handled here, while it probably would've drooped in the hands of another director and different actors. Passing with a PG-13 was nice(so I could go see it without parents, but my parents would've gone if it was rated R anyways), and has content almost close to American Pie level. This is shown in one scene where a girl who walks off without Dizzy turns around and asks him "are you coming?", to which he replies "almost" (this is because of her asking him to take her clothes of with his teeth, make out with her, etc.).

Anyways, I felt that this movie was very well handled, very well acted(Great job Eliza and DJ!) and has a lot of humor(sexual and crude) which would make anyone laugh, and would probably offend some.

My advice: Go see it. Easily my favorite movie of the year so far!

Final Grade: 10/10.

Rated: PG-13 for sexual content, language, crude humor and mild drug references.

Soul Survivors
(2001)

Excellent Thriller
I went into this film with high hopes for a great movie and I was not disappointed. Great storyline with plot turns and twists that make the movie one-of-a-kind. Excellent performances by all of the actors and actresses, especially Eliza Dushku who is my favorite actress [and the hottest person I've ever seen! ;) ] If you go and see this, you will not be sorry!

Final Grade: A+
