Revenge
(1990)

SPOILER ** Poor execution, and story ** SPOILER
I can't believe Costner, Stowe and Quinn agreed to this movie. The story/script is a mess. There's no indication of how the 2 male leads became and remain friends - nothing there seems logical, except to say that Cochran is a naive, direction-less fool. Plus it's pretty obvious that Quinn's character was suspicious of his wife and Cochran after he asks Cochran to go with him on a trip. Then after a violent invasion of their trip to his cabin, Stowe spends the latter half of the film shown in bed, drugged and abused, while Costner runs around violently killing Mendez's men as he coincidentally crosses their path, until the ridiculous end.

Jersey Shore
(2009)

disturbing and sad
I checked this show out because I heard it was about a group of young New York/ New Jersey Italian Americans living together. Being one myself, I am ashamed of these people and how badly they treat one another. I checked in about half way into season 2. One of the roommates, who was not well liked by everyone, decided to leave after being tormented throughout the entire season. I'd say that was about the smartest move any one of them made.

I don't think I've seen so much outright abuse and calculated disparagement amongst any group of people, ever.

Nice going MTV - go ahead and encourage bad behavior and verbal abuse amongst young adults. Show fighting, swearing, drunkenness, lies and manipulation as being cool and in amongst young adults in their 20s over and over again so other young people can act just like that thinking its something to capitalize on.

Clockwatchers
(1997)

A good look at the dreary life of a temp
A very realistic, funny and well directed movie about 4 women who are trying to make a career with the limited, thankless position of a temp in a large corporation.

Everything from the sea of cubicles in a blandly colored floor, to the ridiculous elevator style music playing continuously is typical of a large business in any city, USA. Tony Collette and Parker Posey give stellar performances and the supporting cast of the office supply watchdog (Stanley DeSantis), and Bob Balaban as the obsessed corporate climber, pained a very real picture of the office politics and emotional, self centered wrecks people turn into when fighting for their chance of recognition.

The Anniversary Party
(2001)

Brilliant writing and acting
The cast had really good chemistry, partially because most of them are all friends, and from what I've read about the movie, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alan Cumming who wrote and directed the film, encouraged the actors to modify some of their dialogue or lines. But this only made each of the characters more appealing in that everything in the film seemed very real - not acted out. A great piece of writing, and I hope see more from both Jason-Leigh and Cumming.

Muriel's Wedding
(1994)

Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths were superb
A heartfelt story about a young woman who mistakenly feels that marriage will make her a success. Her journey to the alter and to her final awakening is heartbreaking and funny. Toni Collette is probably one of the best actresses on screen today.
