She's Gotta Have It
(1986)

Ahead of its time
A fun movie with a message. Nola established her sexual independence and makes it clear, she is no ones property.

The Jacket
(2005)

Acknowledging Jack London, "The Star Rover," (aka "The Jacket")
When I saw "The Jacket," I assumed that Jack London would get some credit for the story. The film is, after all, an adaptation of London's "The Star Rover," which puts the protagonist, Darrel Standing in San Quentin prison for life. Standing gets put in a straight jacket as special punishment, and finds himself slipping into trances that enable him to re-experience past lives.

"The Star Rover," while not as widely known as "Call of the Wild" or "White Fang," was one of London's last books, and in my opinion, his best. According to London's daughter, Joan, he lavished material he had compiled for future books into one: "The Star Rover," which he almost titled, "The Jacket." Anyone who enjoyed the movie is bound to enjoy London's book.

But why does this film not give him credit? Is it legal to borrow so much from a book and ignore the author?

London himself had a bad habit of plagiarizing other authors, his stories: "Before Adam," "Love of Life," and passages from "The Iron Heel," are all flagrant plagiarism. So I guess he had it coming.
