A Love Story w. a Sadomasochistic Twist Absolutely love this movie.
I'll admit, the first time I saw it I sat there, watching the credits roll past thinking "What the #$%& just happened?" It's dark, strange and surprising. But then I had to see it again. And again. And again...
All of the mental illness, alcoholism, and sadomasochism aside, it's a very sweet romance. The film deals with self-discovery, acceptance, healing, love and relationships in a very tender if unconventional way.
It's a truly original script. The director has paid close attention to all the details and each time you watch it you will catch something you didn't the time before. The score is wonderfully written and selected, including Cake's rendition of "I will survive" and some excellent original work.
Spader, Gyllenhal and Davies all turn in stellar performances as slightly neurotic damaged and ever-so-lovable people. People you can relate to :0) Very very highly recommended.
