Nobody's Perfect
(1989)

Boys Meets Girl, Boys Dresses Up As Girl, It Hits the Fan
Plot Summary: Boy (Stephen) who plays tennis falls in love with girl who plays tennis. When there's an injury on the women's tennis team, Stephen and his unscrupulous friend put him in a tennis skirt so that he can circumnavigate his love's violently possessive boyfriend.

I'm guessing that the title is a play off of the last line of "Some Like It Hot", a classic gender-bender film if there ever was one.

This film is a cheesy little romance, with an interesting plot twist or two and the occasionally witty bit of funny dialogue.

Girl (hitting on boy): What's your favorite kind of pizza? Boy: Large. Girl: Mine too!

I got a few laughs out of the love-struck protagonist's hijinks in a skirt. Nothing all that exciting, but decent entertainment if you don't have anything else to do.

A Love Story w. a Sadomasochistic Twist
Absolutely love this movie.

I'll admit, the first time I saw it I sat there, watching the credits roll past thinking "What the #$%& just happened?" It's dark, strange and surprising. But then I had to see it again. And again. And again...

All of the mental illness, alcoholism, and sadomasochism aside, it's a very sweet romance. The film deals with self-discovery, acceptance, healing, love and relationships in a very tender if unconventional way.

It's a truly original script. The director has paid close attention to all the details and each time you watch it you will catch something you didn't the time before. The score is wonderfully written and selected, including Cake's rendition of "I will survive" and some excellent original work.

Spader, Gyllenhal and Davies all turn in stellar performances as slightly neurotic damaged and ever-so-lovable people. People you can relate to :0) Very very highly recommended.
