The Simpsons: A Mid-Childhood Night's Dream
(2023)
Episode 2, Season 35

Best one for a long time
I'm not a parent at all, but this did bring a tear to my eye towards the end. We've been watching this show for over 39 years and there's only been one other episode where Marge has been worried about not being a mother anymore (where she wants to have another baby) but this one just seemed way more on brand for them.

Worrying she won't be a mum anymore just because her kids aren't little babes anymore is something I've witnessed some of my closest friends go through so to see it written in an episode and portrayed as a fever dream was refreshing for some of the recent episodes that are... well, I guess you could say lacking!

I especially loved how she remembered things Lisa told her so incorrectly.

So wholesome I wanted to die
I seriously was just saying 'awwwww' the entire time I was watching this show. The stop animation was just flawless. Seeing what they think pokémon's textures would be was so cool. Some were furry, some smooth.... they are just so freaking adorable it's insane. It just has cute little messages through it but it's suitable for everyone to enjoy!

Highly recommend, I'm reviewing at episode 4 because so far that's all out but I can only see it getting more fun as we go further down the track. I especially love the jungle environment and all the free roaming little pokemon enjoying themselves and the friendly characters.

Le calendrier

It does a lot with not much
Isn't it funnier how sometimes less can be more?

I was never bored during this film despite sometimes not understanding the entire thing - it's in French so I've had to pause to read the subtitles a bit! But in doing so little in the effects department it definitely created a creepy feel that made me want to keep watching.

As grim as it sounds, once Eva got as far as she did it honestly seemed like the only thing she could do is exactly what she did.

I'm late to the party by a few years, but if you're into those 'cursed object' films then this is definitely a good watch. It's a mix of German and French so try to keep up if you're Aussie like me!

Great twists!
I'm a bit of a creep when it comes to horror, so naturally I haha watched them all, even the worst of the worst to try and satisfy the craving of a good horror.

Was this it? No. It didn't suck by any means, I feel like there was a certain depth to it about how complex our emotions are and how twins - whatever type they are can definitely feed off each others emotions. It had some great little twists, some funny scenes and the effects were kinda lame but also didn't really need to be high budget for it to work. I was never bored, the acting was really good and it was a great horror-comedy. Few little plot holes that once you watch it you may think about later, though!

Sorority House
(2020)

Problematic and extremely low budget
I think they would have made this much better. It has people planning to roofie others, planning to r*pe a girl, girls covering up a r*pe and gaslighting a girl into thinking she enjoyed it, as well as a white girl dressing as a 'sexy pocahontas' for a frat party. If the acting was at least good and the gore a little more realistic you could *almost* keep watching.

Definitely props to the scene where the murderer digs into the professors nether regions with a chainsaw and then pulls his balls off, but the obsession with an ungrateful girl who doesn't reciprocate the feelings really doesn't feel like a strong enough premise for a film. The acting tried to hard and fell so short, the reviews are definitely bang on saying this movie is hair stinky garbage. Even for 2017 I don't get why all the problematic stuff had to be so heavily fetishised.

Cerdita
(2022)

Mixed messages
I understand, or maybe I don't understand this film and the subtle and not-so-subtle nuances it displays. Bullying and judging people for their appearance and weight isn't okay, and the fact Sara was admired by someone so much they were willing to kill slews of people for he gave her a glimpse of what it was like to be loved.

It's probably not even that deep, the movie was enjoyable and I'm one of those plebs who struggles with subtitles movies!

I hate that reviews have to be so long now, I feel like I've definitely said enough about the film that I wanted to! Either way, worth a watch for sure.

Revenge
(2017)

Why hadn't I seen this sooner?
I understand we are suspending reality for a bit, but I am so glad I went against the negative reviews and watched this for myself. Yes it is super 'I Spit on Your Grave' but who doesn't love a gory movie filled with revenge.

The moment Richard, who was cheating on his wife was willing to push her off a cliff instead of take care of his 'associate' who assaulted her, I knew he just simply had to go.

It defies basically all laws of survival, but if she had have died there and then we'd never get to see Jen get her revenge and give them the justice they so sorely deserved. Plus, did I mention it was insanely gory?

Don't Worry Darling
(2022)

Fun film. Super gaslighty but fun
I was fiercely confused for way too long in this movie, but it all started falling into place towards the end which I'm hoping is the same for others!

I thought the cast was awesome, Olivia Wilde is amazing and to me she always steals the show, despite Florence Pugh being equally as awesome.

It was a raunchy little number and I definitely loved how it was a little bit of 50s and a little bit of now which didn't feel like it was normal until everything started to make more sense and be explained! I'm curious about the plane crash though, if Frank didn't want questions being asked then why crash a plane in broad daylight to get people curious????

Eerie
Something about films that hold people captive are creepy but it's even creepier when they're forced into an initiation and then paired with other people against their will. I spent most of this movie feeling on edge and very uncomfortable, which is honestly a good thing when it comes to thrillers. I do appreciate a movie where you don't really know if it's a good ending or a bad one, all I know is it lost me for a few mins and then grabbed me for the entirety of the rest of it to the last minute.

I do highly recommend this movie if you're not against seeing films where women who want to be on their own are held captive and forced into a community they don't want to be a part of - it's worth a watch!

iCarly: iHave a Proposal
(2023)
Episode 10, Season 3

You're killin me!
As far as finales go, this was a ripper! Finding out about Carly and Spencer's mum and then having her pop up at the cert end (despite not seeing her) blows 15 years of the shoe right out of the water. It was an emotional episode, super well written and just a tiny bit of hilarity to not take you out of the mood too much. Will Freddie and Carly tie the knot right there and then? Did the appearance of Carly's mum ruin what they had both just planned spur of the moment?

I am DYING to see what happens after this episode and it's hilarious that Freddie's mum and Lewbert ended up eloping despite how perfect the venue was made for them.

Deadstream
(2022)

Yes.
Whoever rated this low for whatever reason sucks. This was a perfect blend of ghosts, gore and laughs.

Was it relatively predictable? Yes.

But it was gross, gory, funny and the effects were great.

I highly recommend even for people who don't like supernatural movies like myself. It's like you're meant to hate him as a person so it feels more enjoyable relating to him through the movie and actually starting to wish he was going to be okay.

The set was awesome too, looked super realistic, the sounds were very ASMR.

I don't have much more to say but I have to leave 600 characters or whatever it is.

Terrifier
(2016)

Rewatched again after 5 years, didn't disappoint
I watched this when it first came out and remember literally being terrified. Some of the scenes in this movie are just absolutely messed up. The violence against women is a bit hardcore, but I guess they were really the only cast they used. With a limited budget it was very good, you don't need a massive budget to set a horrifying scene after all! The effects were great, the acting was subpar but for some reason it was just extremely watchable.

I am so keen to watch the second one to see if it's set right after or if Art comes back for more the year after. I am into a lot of gore, I hate final girls and love everyone dying so I guess this movie was basically my dream come true.

Definitely recommend if you have a strong stomach.

Harley Quinn: 'Til Death Do Us Part
(2019)
Episode 1, Season 1

Entertaining and crass
I'm late to the party here but this is a great series so far. Harley is edgey, slick, and a little stupid but she's just the best. Can't wait to catch up and see what Kaley gets up to 🤣

The casting is really good, I'm not happy I have to write so many characters for a show I've only seen one episode of but if you love cartoons, comics, well drawn and cast characters and cartoon gore with tonnes of innuendo and naughty words then this is definitely a show you'll enjoy. I wish I knew about it in 2019 that's for sure, it's entertaining as hell. I don't know why it feels so nostalgic it's like they made it for me as an adult!

X
(2022)

that was wild
I really enjoyed this, I thought I would at first, then half way through I thought I wouldn't and then some stuff happened and I changed my mind. Lots of gore, tonnes of sex (which I guess we expected?!) no twists or anything, but it was still an entertaining film.

I tend to enjoy modern slashers set in the 70s/80s/90s etc purely for the lack of technology to make things easier for victims 🤣

Anyway, this was on my watch list for a while and the acting was great, it was entertaining the entire way through and had some great little slashy bits all through it. Wasn't sure who was going to make it out alive, if anyone!

Bodies Bodies Bodies
(2022)

Strange strange strange?
This was a very '2022' movie. If there's a woke phrase or word that could be used to describe the way people talk online, this film has them all.

Pete Davidson was funny as per usual, it was kinda slow in parts, but it has little bits where things start to add up. The cast was really good, seems like a group of people who didn't like each other very much but stayed friends because they didn't feel like they had any other options or prospects in life since they all came from money.

I waited so long to see this film I feel like it was a letdown in comparison to what I had built it up in my mind, but it was definitely worth a watch and enjoyable.

Day Shift
(2022)

probably would have been crap if no stars in it
It's a fun movie with good effects and a lot of laughs - I watched it on a whim but usually I'm into more actual horror.

I enjoyed the concept, as always Dave Franco plays a dag but it works really well for him. Snoop is a legend and a total badass, and you'd expect nothing less from him.

Jamie Foxx is great, well the entire cast is great. Did we always have to use 600 characters to write these reviews???

Like my title says, if it wasn't star studded it honestly probably wouldn't have been as good as it was, but that's true for many movies I suppose.

Watch if you have 2 hours to kill and no real expectations of a Vampire Hunting movie.

The Rehearsal
(2022)

Someone gave this a 1 because they thought it was meant to be a comedy...
This isn't a comedy - this is a strange, but incredibly engaging and compelling social experiment that has smaller social experiments within it.

Is it flawed in a way? Yes.

BUT - it is a new idea, it's interesting, it's awkward and the actors (especially the children) are all incredible. I have felt so awkward during most of these episodes, but not for the wrong reasons. Sometimes I yell at the screen because I'm so confused by Nathan's way of seeing the world, but it's also important to understand how important perspective is. He delivers this serious beautifully, it's not even finished yet and I'm confident it'll end perfectly.

The Black Phone
(2021)

Enjoyable and creepy
Ethan Hawke is a creepy dude - and he really delivers. I didn't want to see him as evil, but I've seen Taking Lives so I guess I know it suits him.

The entire thing is creepy, the protagonist speaks to the past victims on a phone that doesn't actually work, and they all help him find ways to get out of the basement and break the cycle of this child abduction and murder.

It's not the best film I've ever seen but as far as a little bit of good gross makeup goes and some great acting, it's definitely worth watching.

Unboxed
(2022)

I had to turn it off
The first few mins got me - and influencer gives a shallow, very fake thanks to her subscribers (it seems legit then she spits the stuff out off camera) for the gifts she receives from them, and then dies because she eats poison gummy bears someone sends her while she's live streaming. Or does she die? I dunno, they mention she just 'disappeared' even though she was foaming at the mouth like she had rabies.

Her acting was fine, but it just went downhill from here....

The acting of all the other cast members was SO BAD. It was like they were reading their lines directly off the screen. The sound was also all over the place. Someone would speak and it would be turned up so loud, and the others were normal volume standing right next to the loud one. Like their mics didn't work.

Do not recommend, I think I lasted maybe 10 mins tops.

The Free Fall
(2021)

Some of these reviews are rough!
Was it perfect? No.

Was it a new idea? I don't think so.

Was it engaging? Yes.

I wanted to know what was happening, I annoyed myself husband the entire time being like 'look at the mirror!' 'Do you reckon her husband is really who he says he is?!' At the end of the day the concept isn't new. You always wonder why amnesia patients don't ask for photos of their holidays and friends to jog their memories? Is that how you know it's fake?

Anyway - the 'big twist' I read so much about wasn't big and probably raised more questions than it answered.

As for the quiet talking I honestly didn't even notice that. I had the TV loud and I caught every word!

5/10. The acting was fine, the characters were fine. It just fell short and didn't make a lot of sense.

The Little Things
(2021)

Where was the wow?
I don't get all the hype, yes it was a good film but Rami Maleks character barely opened him mouth when he spoke and I had to keep turning up the tv to get what he was saying. Jared Leto slid right into the position of creep show. Was he the murderer? We'll never know, because Denzel basically covered it up so Rami could sleep at night.

It was an interesting movie but honestly it just fell short in some parts for me which make me not get why it was raves about so much. Perhaps just because it was star studded?

I onde dager
(2021)

Wild ride all the way through
It started off a tiny bit strange, but the further you get into it the more you see they were just little clues placed so we could go back a few hours and see where and why.

If you like people crapping in public, shooting each other in the ass, attempted sodomy, elder abuse, marital issues to the point of wanting to actually murder each other... plus a whole lot more; than definitely watch this movie. I'm so glad I did, it was a lovely blend of gore and comedy.

Watcher
(2022)

Nervy
It had it all really. Good suspense, a very good actress depicting a very real fear of being followed by a man.

At one stage I actually felt for him when it seemed as though she was stalking him!

It was honestly a bit of a slow burn but right towards the end it was quite explosive. Entertaining, not the best film I've ever seen but definitely was worth the watch.

Malignant
(2021)

Fun and gross!
I don't get the reviews giving this a 10 and saying it's the best thing they've ever seen and it's off its chops - but that's subjective, people might think that genuinely so whatever. I also don't get the really bad reviews about it being a crap bad quality B grade film - this isn't a realistic film by any means and I don't think it tries to be, so complaining about the 'twist' or the effects is kinda moot.

Anyway, this was an insanely entertaining film.

Gore? Check Decent special effects? Check Cool plot line and adequate 'twist'? Check

The only real downside was some of the lines the characters said felt like they fell right out of a hallmark card, a lifetime film that would be shown at midday on a Tuesday. But if you look past some of the cheese the premise is good, it's interesting, you won't be bored for a second either. Maybe if you're someone having issues conceiving this won't be the film for you as it does have mentions of miscarriage, and elements of DV as well.

The Night House
(2020)

I needed that
I've been avoiding these types of movies for so long, I'm really more of a 'slasher' type of gal. BUT the reviews for this we're good so I got in on it.

It was amazing! I was never bored for an entire second, my heart was racing at some of the scenes. The acting was amazing, the house is stunning and the scenery is breathtaking. The concept is very cool, it took me a while to understand her husband was a serial killer out of love for his wife not because he was a total creep. I mean there's no good reason to be a serial killer, but i'd there was this would probably be it.

Beautifully done film, definitely recommend for the person who enjoys ghosts, violence and lake houses.
