The Flood
(2020)

GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY BUT WEAK PREMISE
From the moment I saw an image of a family on bed of trees a poorly edited cross dissolved shot - i knew this was not going to be good. A bad decision by the editor and or director. Then came the instant disjointed shots jumping from current to fantasy flashbacks so quick - it puts you off and irritates you instantly. Then you get some text on screen explaining the characters and their history and traits. So we are already off to a bad start.

Its a shame that with all the great Aussie landscapes here that this film falls flat on its back. Cast were very good as well as the cinematography, locations and costume design but thats it. The story is weak and the characters have NO layers and no emotion other than hatred or revenge. The Aboriginal flashbacks and fantasy / spiritual aspects are just plain artistic arty farty rubbish that is an obvious attempt to try and be artistic. These moments makes the film disjointed and the female revenge plot feels very tarantino and very feminism politically. These moments add nothing to move the story forward and there are way too many characters to follow. If you have NO emotion, you have no film, a bunch of sensless killing and repeated rape scenes made me feel nothing. When the lady was being raped, as a director you need to show us the pain of what this poor woman is going through instead you chose the wrong shot size and angle. When the daughter is shot dead, you cut so quick to the next scene you didn't even give me a chance to feel the death, so important for the audience. I feel there this may be a bunch of white folk trying to tell an indigenous story to pat themselves on the back for feeling of white guilt. On the contrary i do applaud them for the effort overall. The score could have been much more cinematic with these landscapes so there is another missed opportunity. People say this was a good film, but in fact it was hard to watch and was boring even with all those action scenes. Would not recommend at all.

Its an obvious attempt at recreating a Tarantino style film. The pop music really made this even worse as the film fails at sticking to a theme. Is this experimental?

To finish it all off were the cheesy closing credits, with The Bag Guys, etc this felt unnatural in a film that should have focused more on the indigenous story and not all the cheesyness and excessive amount of kills.

Overall good acting, landscapes and cinematography. Bad story, directing and editing and music.

A ABOMINATION TO CINEMA AND RELIGION
WOW, do not waste your time. There is no story here or any emotion that not contrived. The main character has no real goal and clearly trying to be a straight character but all his mannerisms are clearly feminine and gay. (i have nothing against that, just NOT believable acting - the main character seems to have done no research and never had any acting experience). The directing is terrible and you would think after so many films Davo Hardy would have gotten better. The story was weak and boring and the characters were wooden. It was very hard to watch this film, although somewhat amusing on how bad it was. The best thing was the female minister a very strong actor and that fresh faced teen girl who was a natural. The father was OK but just passed. Also since when do Christians walk around with extra large crosses around their necks, its just not believable and somewhat a mockery? The religious aspect made no sense whatsoever, its like the director was So against religion that he wanted to say something negative but he wasn't clear. A female minister one minute preaching and then having sex. Same as the kid, keep speaking and defending his faith and then convinced so easy to go and have sex with a hooker and then gets hooked? Its just bad writing. Im sorry I would like to say some else that's good but its very hard. Photography bad, music bad, and not even colour graded. Making a film is hard and I applaud anyone who makes one, but making a great film is a miracle. Keep on truckin, but stay away from this film, not worth the money or the time. Go and watch The Room.

A FILM MAKER TO WATCH - EDDIE ARYA
This is NOT a great film but its a great first film for a director. Main actor is ok, needs more acting classes but the concept is good and the film holds your attention. Some good cast members in there and not a bad story overall. Give this one a chance as its better than alot of other Aussie film, His follow up - The System shows he gets better and seeing the trailer for his 3rd film - Risen - he will be known as one of Australia's formidable directors.

THIS IS VERY VERY BAD
Sorry but there is NO story here. Bad script, casting, direction and acting. looks like it was shot with a backyard camera. Colour grade looks very cheap and the Amercian accents are horrible, I should know Im an American living in Oz. Was extremely hard to sit through.

The Legend of the Five
(2020)

LOW BUDGET FANTASY DISASTER
Aussies should steer clear of making anything fantasy or sci-fi, or horror, we cant do them well. Bad script, terrible and uninteresting characters, bad CGI / VFX. It was shot very well, Ill give it that. Actors were poor choices except for Lauren Esposito, she just passes but at least great to look at. Dont waste your time.

DONT UNDESTAND WHAT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT
Its not a bad movie, it s=does have charm and some interesting moments but overall there is no plot or story, its just a bunch of scenes. Th main actress just passes in acting but she doesn't belong on screen, its hard to watch people who don't look like actors or unrelatable or not the right fit for a role. I'm a huge supporter of Australian film and spend alot of money going to these films but I will speak the truth. Female directors for some strange reason love to indulge in overly sexualised content. Its always crude and vulgar and they say men are pigs. Don't believe me just look up any Aussie film directed by a female. Fantastic work getting the film done. Looks like students shot it, not filmed well, backyard job and terrible colour grading.

INTERSTING & ENGAGING FOLLOW UP FROM SERHAT CARADEE
Serhats first film Cedar Boys was a great film out of Western Sydney. His follow up his very different but worth the watch. This film although slow, it has an engaging topic about a Muslim Australian returning from fighting in Syria. The characters are interesting and the conversations are heavy. If you don't like dialogue heavy films - this film is NOt for you. Its a slow unfolding drama that's worth the watch if you want to watch a basic story about a family torn by one mans actions. Excellent performance by Tyler DeNawi and supporting actors Jaqui Pervis and Buddy Danoun. Special mention to Helen Chabatte and Maha Wilson does a fine job. Its a one location film that will keep your attention. If your looking for action this film is not for you. Overall its a better Aussie film then those with bigger budgets. Well done to the cast and crew.

NOTHING WORTH YOUR TIME HERE
Don't waste your time, another Aussie film with a terrible story with a weak script. Concept could have been pushed further but was wasted. Actors are weak to mediocre, no stand outs. photography looks like film students. Overall well done, its hard making a film but maybe next time study great films to understand story structure and what makes interesting characters and more importantly what is great acting.

NICE TRY BUT A POOR COPYCAT OF HOLLYWOOD CLASSICS
For an Aussie film pretending to be an American film its not a bad effort. But there is no compelling story here. Weak script so executing a weak script results in a weak story. Lots pf good action and effects but means nothing when your characters are not interesting. This is a bad mashup of Event Horizon, Aliens and other great hollywood classics. So fedup with bad ripoffs. Get original.

BETTER THAN MOST AUSSIE FILMS BUT NOT COMPELLING
Charlotte best is fantastic and very photogenic. Shot well, great locations and production design. its trying too hard to be a cross between horror and art. story is weak, not that interesting at all. was so confusing and boring. Part 2 really? Dont waste your time.

Damaged
(2015)

A WASTE OF TIME
This film has a disjointed story that makes no sense. Shot over 5 years, and rewritten multiple times it shows many cracks in the story. The characters are wooden and have no depth as do the actors especially the lead actress who manages just to pass in acting. Alot of the actors seem to be non actors or friends which could be the reason for the terrible and cringy acting. Dont waste your time. Looks like a student film and the especially the way it was filmed. 1 star for effort, the director should stick to acting.

Crushed
(2015)

NO HEART OR SOUL
The best thing about this film is the locations, other than that the story is weak and the characters are NOT interesting and are 2 dimensional. Found it very hard to watch, very slow and boring. Most of the acting was average or below. Dont waste your time 2 stars for effort.

Landfall
(2017)

TERRIBLE WASTE IF TIME
Bad acting, uninteresting characters, cringeworthy and not believable at all. This film has no heart or soul and evokes no emotion or feeling except the cringe factor. Sorry tried to support another bad Aussie film but the Aussies continue to prove that they cant stand up to the Americans. Sorry mate, 1 star for effort. But this is an amateur attempt at making a film. I've seen better short films. Suggest the director masters an excellent short film first.

The Day Hollywood Died
(2012)

NOT A BAD EFFORT BUT STILL LACKS SUBSTANCE
When I saw the teasers for this film and the poster I was excited. Finally a film that looks like an American film, there was hope that the Aussie's could pull off a micro budget film. The Characters are very interesting but an obvious ripoff of Tarantino style dialogue and similarities to Reservoir Dogs. The best thing in this film is definitely the lead actor Tommy Bradson who gives a riveting performance as a bald headed lunatic boss. I like the look of the film, it has a nice color to it but the camera work looked like students shot it. Further investigation led me to the man who coloured it worked on lord of the rings. How these guys pulled it off it commendable. The story was interesting and the reveal at the end was not obvious but I did find it a little disjointed and confusing. The special effects explosions although better than most micro budgets looked like a video game. Some of the characters made me laugh so I give points to that and by far the most points goes to the musical score - which you can listen to on youtube. Overall I think this could be a cult film and belongs in the $5 bin at your local Best Buy but at least it kept my attention.

NICE TRY BUT THIS FILM IS SOULESS
Nothing worse than Aussies pretending to be Americans, the accents drop out and then it takes away the suspension of disbelief. Great looking actress but the standard of acting is very low. Another supernatural genre film made by Aussies and the special effects are also very poor. I would forgive all that if you just gave me compelling characters that are not flat and wooden and were 2 dimensional with layers. Give me heart and emotion. Locations were fantastic but 1 star for effort.

ANOTHER BAD AUSSIE FILM
The constant need to make SAW type films, or supernatural and horror films is just mind-boggling. Indie films in Australia need to wake up and stop making poor intimation. It's hard making a film and efforts to all who made it but there is no excuse for poor character development, poor storytelling and extremely bad casting. This was so bad I saw someone walk out of the screening and never came back. I want everyone to succeed but we need need to stop making bad films. This is so cringy its so embarrassing. I actually feel bad for the cast and crew. It's hard to watch this film, it has nothing going for it at all except the looks of Imogen Bailey. Sorry I honestly tried to support this film but please dont waste your time. Films need strong compelling story and characters, they must be interesting and they must have emotion. Even for a saw style film, you must have some sort of emotion, likability of the main character. 1 star for effort.

NO COMPELLING STORY HERE
Another Aussie film with no real story. 1 star for all the great locations and how well its shot, all credit to the cameraman. The main actor is not interesting enough and the character I dont care about. This was so boring, I honestly cant believe this was funded. Getting Jessica Mcnamee in here too is kudos to you, she must have been desperate. The best scene is when you see the local thugs. Love Steve Lamarquand, he's the best thing in the film but as for the guy from book week, he's not believable=le at all as that type of character. And a strip club scene with no nudity and the lap dance with clothes on? Has the director been to a strip club. Believe it or not I actually champion Aussie films but this is a weak story and it's no wonder local Aussies wont support our industry.

Tabernacle 101

ONE OF THE WORST AUSSIE FILMS IN HISTORY
Most average audiences will catch on quick to the many FAKE reviews on here. Just watch the trailer and you will see. This film has nothing going for it. The main actor is the most unlikable character and poor actor. The special effects are so childish and cheap. By far the worst thing is all the actors and the story. This is the most weakest story I have ever seen, its so obvious it was Flatliners ripoff, please get original material. There was some good production design but other then that I was cringing the whole time. I feel bad for most of the people involved in this film. The Director has no idea about powerful storytelling. There is no emotion whatsoever and you feel nothing. If you feel nothing, joy, sadness, any basic human emotion then you end up caring. The child actor was not very good, but good on him for trying. The main girl was a pass in acting but moreso great to look at, eye candy. Another poor attempt at the supernatural genre in the Aussie film industry. 1 star for effort, it's hard making a film.

THERE IS NO STORY HERE - ANOTHER REASON AUSSIE FILMS ARE BAD
If you think filming a whole bunch of people walking around doing mundane things or everyday things is interesting then watch this bad film. A bunch of late teens walking around, taking drugs and there is NO story. No emotion, nothing compelling, nothing interesting, nothing entertaining and definitely no heart. There is no struggle or even a goal for the so called protagonists. I've never seen so many shots of houses, trees, birds, planes etc to fill in a film that has no story or purpose. There is NO vision here, a Director should understand storytelling. You cant shoot a bunch of stuff and try an and be arty farty and expect people to understand it. Gender bending, confusion, winging teens. Basic dialogue and characters are walking around with no motivation, no goal. People don't want to watch nothing. The acting is passable but mediocre, the most interesting actor is the middle eastern actress, who is by far the best actress and great to look at. 1 star for effort.

THE MOST BORING FAKE SUPERNATURAL FILM
Was excited when I saw the trailer and was wondering how a director would get a feature film debut with a big budget with a known British actress and Jake Gyllenhall produced. This film explores dementia but with no heart or emotion at all. Where is the soul of the film? I felt nothing. At moments there are cool creepy moments but its so disjointed in storytelling. It jumps from flashbacks to present time and trying to be super stylistic to cover up the lack of a compelling story. Give me something to remember, something I can talk about. Shot extremely well, great lead actress but wasted here. Great VFX but thats it, there is no story here worth your time. So disappointed. This is another poor attempt at an Aussie supernatural film. Dont be fooled by the great polished images, sound and VFX, money buys those things but you cant jazz up poor storytelling. This was so slow, you cant call it a great slow-burn film. Great slow burn storytelling is Better Call Saul.

Book Week
(2018)

ANOTHER BOREFEST
This film got nominated at the Australian Academy, really? WHY? There are some good moments and its shot very well. But the main actor Alan Dukes gets into situations with women which anyone will tell you is highly unlikely with this type of character. I found it hard to sit through, it wasn't compelling or engaging at all. I loved the actress playing the police officer, so credit to her. Airlee Dodds by far was the most interesting character and she's got a bright future. There is nothing special here, no standout. But I also liked the African guy too. Sorry but dont waste your time. Go and see a real Aussie film like Lion or 1%

UTTERLY DISSAPOINTING
When I first saw the trailer I was genuinely excited but what a huge let down. Not overly surprised at another poor attempt at an indie Aussie horror film. The story is weak and not interesting at all. The subject of fatal sleep insomnia could have been something to really great if executed well. Actors were mediocre, characters were ordinary and it was so slow for a supernatural film I wanted to fall asleep. It's shot restively well. Dont waste your time, 2 stars for getting the film made and for some great locations.
