Fleabag
(2016)

So good, hilarious all the way with some real gut punching sadness
I'd seen clips on instgram reels of this show over the last few years but never bothered to look further into it.

It popped up on my prime reccomendations and was looking to just stick something on but not really pay attention to etc FInished both seasons in a week.

Honestly so blown away by the show. At first I thought as a mid 40's guy that this would be a very female oriented show that I wouldn't have much interest in or it would be heavily anti men which I see a lot of.

I was wrong and I'm glad I was.. I have laughed my ass off the whole way through and teary eyed in quite a number of places too.

I think its all written so well, like it could have been the case (as i initally expected) that the guys she was going to be hooking up with were all just sterotypical doucheabags etc etc but tbh I found it done quite well that they were more so amalgamations of the type of people you meet during dating or just hooking up etc Like they all had great qualitys but then one deal breaker quality etc

The plot twist of finding out she had slept with her friends BF was such a gut punch and how it was all done was really imrpessive to me.

When I finished season 1 I had that worry that season 2 was going to be a decent in quality as can be the case.. ONCE AGAIN.. WRONG.

Just great all the way, love finding shows like this. Really left an impression.

I do like how it ended, it didn't have the OTT happy ending with everything tied up neatly.

Kept it a bit more realistic.

Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire
(2023)

Very Dull tbh
I'm leaving this review as the movie is running in front of me... The fact im leaving it during the movie says a lot.

At the time of review exactly im at the 90min mark and another 45 mins to go.

Uninspiring dialogue, weak action scenes, sterotypical characters you've seen a million times before. And tbh, pretty bad acting

There's nothing redeeming about any of them. If they were suddenly killed off you wouldn't realy bat an eyelid.

Bad cgi, bad greenscreen effects/scenes throughout

There is a scene with a 'spider lady' we'll call her and it could have been cool... but really bad CGI made her face and hands look terrible. Its the type of cgi i'd have expected very early on in its inception.

I think Synder got a discount on slow mo shots.. buy one get 25 free. If there's a hint of action you can bet there's going to be a slow mo scene.

I think the only reason this is getting any attention is because Synders name is attached.

This is movie is 2hrs 15mins... it doesn't pass quickly.

I did wait until the end to finish this off just for fairness... I wish I hadn't..

I see zero reason why a part 2 is needed for this uninspiring snorefest.

Chris Rock: Selective Outrage
(2023)

Seeing the end bit before the full special had me fooled
High expectations... I played myself...!!!

I was a huge fan of Chris Rock's specials up to and including never scared. For me I went from Eddie Murphy > Richard Prior and then to Chris. Chris was like the 3rd horse man of comedians that had me crying watching him.

But I got fed up when he was constantly doing the white people this, that and the other bits after that. He had them in pretty much all his sketches and they were hilarious but he seemed to becoming very reliant/focused on it and it got old and stale very quickly for me.

Watching Tamborine I nearly fell asleep tbh

I saw the end of Selective Outrage online as it contained the section about Smith. It reminded me off old Chris and it was funny seeing him going off like that. I know people wished he didn't but it's his right.. he doesn't need to answer to anyone.

So after seeing that I decided to check this out thinking it was going to be old style Rock.

Sadly it wasn't.. 15mins in and I've already heard him do a joke about white people worrying about losing the country/power etc.. he did that in a previous special and it was hilarious.. this is pretty much copy/paste of an old joke with a tiny difference.

All in all I found this quite a below average show and tbh I would have never have checked it out if I hadn't seen the will smooth bit at the end prior ot the full show. This feels on par to why I stopped caring about his standup as it wasn't anything new. He seems to be going just for the black audience (which is fine) but I would think even they would want better humor than boring jokes on racism that we've all heard before.

Even the crowd seem to be forcing a response to some of the 'bits'.

This is a 70 min show and I'd say 55mins of it is the same old boring racism related jokes/bits etc he's done to death in the past. It's not original or cleaver like you might see Chappelle do.

I feel most of the upvotes are for people just supporting him due to the Will Smith thing.. any Chris/Comedy lovers should see this for what it is.. boring and unoriginal.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
(2022)

Better than I expected
..and I wasn't expecting much

TBH I'm kinda done with the MCU. I don't find any of the newer movies or the weak tv series to be worth all the nonsense that surrounds them.

I saw the ads for this and winched as it looked really terrible.

Then tonight I saw it online and clicked to watch it out of boredom and despite the hard to sit through song bit near the start.. it got better.

I'd classify this as some harmless xmas fun.

Some funny bits and some actually touching parts ie the end that caught be of guard.

Must be going soft in my old age.

I gave it a generous 7 and mainly because it stars one of earths greatest heros.

Hellraiser
(2022)

Another horror chain that has been flogged to death...Just leave it alone...
It's going to be hard to stretch this out for 600 characters but just another underwhelming movie release.

3 hellraiser movies was more than enough. I didn't even realise this was number 11!!!

Remake, reboot.. who cares tbh when it's just a dull ass movie.

  • Person with drug/drink issue
  • Friends/brother trying to help them
  • Box opens.. things happen... eventually.

The whole thing does play like something you would have seen in your standard 80's horror movie.. nothing original at any point.

None of the characters were even slightly interesting at all.

For a 2hr movie I'd say I was mildly interested in aboot 20mins.

Takes about an hour for anything to 'really' happen.

Given the ending I am assuming they are trying to set up for another one which really, I don't know who would actually care enough to bother with.

Very little horror.. just a lot of tedious talking/crying/shouting and zzzzzz.

Thor: Love and Thunder
(2022)

It's fine, albeit underwhelming
This is actually the first Marvel movie that I didn't go to see in the cinema bar black widow but that didn't get a cinema release so anywho...

I had heard a lot of poor reviews about this so maybe it might have influenced my opinion prior to watching it today.

This is the longest of the Thor movies by 20 mins yet seemed to be lacking a lot in the storyline.

They tried to cram a lot in there, but it felt like they couldn't really expand enough on a lot of it.

I thought Russel Crow was excellent and gave me the first actual laugh in the movie was aboot an hour in.

They seemed to try to lean on the things that made Ragnarök one of the best marvel movies for sheer entertainment and 'fun'.. but leant in way too much.

The director who plays Korg.. seemed to sound different this time around. The character seemed a bit 'off'. Was weird... like it was someone hired to play that character.. but not as well!!!

Quill looked noticeable thinner and less beefy than usual heh

Gorr, kind of felt like he was put in there so there would be a bad guy but totally underutilized.

TGOTG, def there for a pay day hah. Almost wasted have full scenes. Might as well have left it as a flash back and spent more time on the main storyline like Gorr and Jane/her cancer.

On her cancer and the whole her becoming 'lady thor' etc... it again felt so rushed.

I dunno the whole 'vibe' of the movie just felt so mixed. Like again they were trying to follow Ragnarök's formula but really missed the target.

Still better than Thor 1 & 2 (which wouldn't be hard) but not a patch on Ragnarök.

Prey
(2022)

Average at best
This is an average at best movie that is being overhyped and rated way higher than it deserves due to it being better than some of the previous rubbish movies that have come from the predator franchise. Most notably the last instalment 'The Predator' which should have never existed.

Some of the issues I had watching this:

  • The CGI is abysmal.. I mean it's really bad for a movie at this stage of CGI being in the world.

  • The predator looks decent (the mask is a bit odd) but then you see it's face and it looks... well lit looks like a lazy design. If it's meant to be some type of under developed predator I don't know but it does not look good at all.

  • The predator has cardio issues it seems, goes from this super fast creature to a slow/clumsy plodding B movie monster.

  • I know there is a version using the original language but the english being spoken is modern english and does not fit in so many parts. It sticks out like a sore thumb

  • 'if it bleeds, we can kill it'.. I almost had an aneurism at how shoehorned in that line was. Again along with the last point, does not fit.

  • In typical movie fashion these days, the narrative of a girl being doubted and not knowing her place etc
She will show them all and be the best at all the things... .. in a really short amount of time when literally a few days prior she could bearly kill a rabbit.. But a massive creature that can go invisible, weight a ton etc etc no problem #girl power

There's so many opportunities to have strong female characters but the modern writers just can't seem to do it in a good way that makes sense 'yes even in a sci-fi' movie.

Look at Ripley in Alien/Aliens, she was and is a badass female role model for a strong female lead. Didn't suddenly become super soilder over night.. she was forced into the situation and used her cunning, strategy and bloody luck to bearly make it through. These days it's.. oh lets justturn her into an invisible killing machine to show she can do anything she wants 'bloody men' etc etc It's brainless and does not work period. Yet they keep trying to do it. I have no issues with GOOD strong female leads, but the way they keep doing this is .. uugh abysmal.

Pro's

  • meh, it's better than the predator
But that does not make it a good movie.

I think this had a ton of potential (as does the alien franchise) but as usual they fumble the ball trying to ring out the last drops of a franchise. Hoping to connect with a new audience.

I'm not looking for another remake of the original predator movie, just a good movie that looks good and makes sense.

I don't think we'll see that in our lifetime.

Let it go lads... let it go.

Rogue One
(2016)

The Original Trilogy & This!
Out of all the star wars movies and spin off since the original trilogy, Rogue One is the only that really holds up.

It feels genuine, not forced the main character does not feel shoved in to support 'the message' or some female empowerment crap. Everyone fits and works well for the most part.

I honestly enjoyed this start to finish bar 1 minor gripe and 1 MAJOR gripe

Minor) I felt Cassian's character was a bit copy paste han solo type character. Not the worst in the world but his persona and how he acted wasn't my favoritism thing.

Major(lol) At the start, I was waiting for the best bit '' DEH NIIIN!!!" *sings the rest of the star wars intro music* It didn't happen and while I laugh about it now I was so bothered I audible said 'WTF' in the cinema which got a lot of laughs >.<

The thing that knocked this out of the park for me was the fact that they died at the end.. blown away (them and me). It was like.. oh... we ain't going super happy disney ending. And I really appreciated that.

Also.. the scene at the end with Vader .. uuuuff that was so badass it, it brought back memories of seeing him for the first time in my uncles house with Star Wars was released on vhs

You could watch this and the original trilogy and be happy with life.

The Dropout
(2022)

Worth a watch but don't take for 100% fact
I followed the court case via the dropout podcast and listened to her in her depositions.

When I started watching this show I was wondering which way they would portray her. At the start it did seem like they were going for the 'poor little girl' and 'men are mean.. old white men specifically' etc It kind of started to go more towards her own actions and knowing what she was doing was messed up but she just wanted to 'show everyone'.

I think the show went maybe 60/40 split in her favor. It seems they are perhaps pushing a PTSD narrative for her in some way.

There are some good actors in here and some.. not so good. Always great to watch Steve Fry in anything.. he is just so pleasing to watch and listen to.

The thing that hurt my soul to watch is the excessive need to have them dance a lot. It felt so out of place and very forced.. coupled with the horrendous awkwardness of it each and every time.

Overall I know there are parts that are not totally accurate but of course that's to be expected. Worth the watch either way.

---

Non show review related: I personally couldn't believe the verdict she got... thought it was going to be so much worse. Conveniently enough she wasn't charged for the worst of her crimes in this.

And I honestly think she had a kid during the trial to gain sympathy 'who would send this new mother to jail and part her from her new born child'.. I honestly believe it.

I would not be surprised if she serves no jail time and her rich family and friends wipe their asses with any money she has to pay.

Pam & Tommy
(2022)

Made it about halfway...
Watched the first episode, seemed fine and potential to be good.

Second episode kick off and seemed good and then his dick comes out, OK it's part of the whole thing so unexpected they'd show it but also not 'shocking' by any means.

Then he starts talking to it and it back to him.. this was where I tapped out almost immediately.

Honestly can't be bothered to spend anymore time on it if that's the level they are going for with this.

Also not totally surprising given Seth R is involved..

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla
(2020)

What could be an absolutely amazing game, ruined by bugs and endless issues
What could be an absolutely amazing game, ruined by bugs and endless issues.

Pro's: Looks great, the music is so good and in no small part due to Einar Kvitrafn Selvik (of the group Wardruna) involvement. Very atmospheric.

I enjoyed the combat and the option of sneaking or just going balls to the wall berzerker mode if you wanted!

There's lots to do overall and some cool hidden items like the legendary weapons. Really nicely done imo

Con's: This was my first venture into the AC universe and was told by a lot of people to not bother as its so buggy. I jumped in head first anyway and was enjoying it.

..then I got to London.. and got disconnected Then for the next 2 months I couldn't do anything for more than 1 minute before the game would crash.

Ubisoft were absolutely ZERO support. It was basically just oh right.. well we will escalate you.. a month later still no reply and they never actually came back to me.

So firstly that's a primary issue outside the game.. the company themselves are utter trash for support and really do not care once you have paid for the game.

Eventually it became a little more playable but it was hit and miss. A lot of glitches and bugs throughout that tbh are too many to name.

The developers honestly seem to be staring up at the sky when it comes to the issues in game.

The content, the extra releases like druids etc They can be (sometimes) an interesting story line but tend to be very short/muted. And after a while you start seeing very copy paste sections/levels.

With new content comes new issues.

When leveling up, it was nice that you could switch your points around to have different builds.. but when you are maxxed out you can literally have points in everything possible which kind of makes the whole system a bit redundant tbh You have 4 pathways on how to play.. but at max you are all 4!?

The Size, I uninstalled the game month ago but if you try to install it now on PC you are looking at 137gb download! Insane..

In short the game could have been in my top 10 list but due to ubisofts ineptitude at fixing the constant issues in game and there lack of customer support just cemented the fact that I'll never spend a penny on them again.

I would suggest buying the standard game when it drops to a very low price if you want to check it out because again it has some great storylines etc but the points above just over ruled the game for me in that regard.

Bruised
(2020)

Underwhelming
Just finished watching this.

If you follow MMA you spot a few familiar faces in this.

The only reason I watched it is because Valentina Shevchenko is in it... I mean literally the only reason!

She is a legend of MMA and if you are not familiar with her, go check her out.

One of my issues is that there are some terrible actors in it. I mean for eg if you are an MMA fan like me, when you listen to the man and woman commentating the final fight.. it's horrendous to endure. They sound like radio personalities reading from a script.. just so unrealistic.

But even if you are not familiar with MMA the acting is still very 'hokey' along with other side characters/actors.

Without spoilers there are some odd parts to the story that don't really get explained. Things are kind of hinted at, eg someone she meets in the movie.. at a key point just ups and leaves and reappears at the end... it just seems very very sloppy how it was handled.

The movie has it's moments but nothing I feel that warrants it getting a higher rating than a 5 max.

Maybe others will enjoy it but for me it was generally underwhelming.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage
(2021)

Big let down, overly goofy
I enjoyed the first Venom, it wasn't amazing by any stretch but enjoyable and to date the best movie iteration of him so far.

I like Tom Hardy good actor and the back & forth between him & venom added a good element to the movie.

However in this it seems like they tried waaay to hard to push that part and it just got overly goofy and painful to watch.

It became less they type of Venom movie I was expecting to more of a slap stick movie. Tom Hardy's character kept talking/saying type of lisp/voice that I heard once or twice in the first movie but seemed to come out A LOT more in this one. Became bothersome and again seemed like they were trying to push it.. whatever IT is.

The comedy bits in the first one worked for me.. they weren't overly pushed and again goofy. This one just felt like they saw it worked so they tried to cram too much of it in.

Maybe others will enjoy it but for me it was a miss.

Loki
(2021)

Underwhelming
I've just finished episode 6 which is meant to be the finale it seems.. It has it's moments and I'm not saying it's the worst.. but it's certainly not amazing.

I felt some of the episodes drag and can get a bit forced in parts. Each episode just keeps going and going and there's no real 'pay off' for sitting through a lot of 'randomness'.

Some people seem to love this but for me, it was an effort to sit through those 6 episodes. That being said I couldn't even get through two episodes of wandavision.

Huge fan of the marvel universe and have been since a young age.. but these series just don't do anything for me.
