The Chosen
(2017)

Captivating embodiments of Jesus and his disciples
I was reluctant to watch this series though family had told me about it last year. I really thought nothing could compare with the Zefferelli series Jesus of Nazareth or Gibson's The Passion of Christ. Finally watched it 3 weeks ago ( August 2020) and was so captivated that I "binge watched" it a second time. They had biblical consultants from different faiths and fleshed out the disciples in a uniquely different way. I am a Secular Franciscan (Catholic) and found myself rereading the Gospels after watching this. Although I read from the Old Testament and New Testament everyday, I felt that I had gained some new insights. At 72, I find the computer frustrating at times so have ordered the Dvd and look forward to binge watching again and wait for the second season with great anticipation! Acting was incredible!!!

Madre Teresa
(2003)

I loved Olivia Hussey's portrayal
I own this movie and watch it every so often. I had the great joy to actually see and hear Mother Teresa many years ago. Olivia Hussey has her movements down pretty well. I only wish they had included some more of her early life for contrast. But the focus is on what procurred her sainthood and that is most edifying. Especially the recounting if the events that lead to her decision to form her community. I read the other reviewer's comments and do not agree with his assessment.i do believe that a new movie should be made that would include her tormented years of spiritual dryness. This movie is worth watching especially for those who did not live in her time. She is a woman for all seasons!

Preferisco il paradiso
(2010)

Charming movie about "the cheerful saint"
Gigi Proietti" perfectly embodies what I know of St. Phillip Neri.( that was my high school parish name). This has the best english dubbing, I have ever heard. ( I usually watch in Italian with English subtitles). The relationship between the saint and the children he serves is absolutely engaging and when they sing before the pope you will fall in love with him as well as the children. It's no wonder this song is sung everywhere in Italy. Even if the movie was not good it would be worth watching for this one song. I have been humming/singing it ( in Italian) ever since!

Rita da Cascia
(2004)

Great movie poor English dubbing
I will confess that I generally find English dubbing of foreign made movies deficient. Don't know how dubbing actors are selected but they are not usually done well.( And I have purchased a lot of foreign made movies about the saints). I prefer to watch/ listen in Original language and read subtitles. I would rate this a 9 in Italian. St Rita's story is compelling as she basically lived the life of a mafia wife and eventually lost much before she gained All.
