Social drama film. A great story of a young man who meets the love of his life and as soon as she tells him that she wants to go far to study, he tries to find a purpose in life, something to continue... He joins the army and the things he will face there as well as his subsequent drug addiction and the criminal life that he will continue are finally his biggest mistakes... A story that on the one hand shows the harsh image of the war and the army, on the other shows the drug addicts who die slowly day by day. In all this, it shows the true love of two young people who go through the difficulties together and approach death together... It's a pretty long movie, it could be shorter possibly, since at times it gets a bit tiring, but what it wants to achieve at least in terms of the criminal life and the "dead ends"of drug addicts it does. Tom Holland, although he does not look like a criminal, shows how a romantic young man can make wrong choices and does it very well in his role. Overall quite a good movie and generally achieves its goals. Not too dramatic overall, has also some light moments, so it is not too heavy for the majority of people, which is good.

Action movie / adventure. This is another film about a heist of valuables, in this case the legendary golden eggs of Cleopatra. As with most films in the genre, it has plenty of action and adventure, very good direction and scenery in luxury houses, in the jungle, in old abandoned basements, etc., with an unusual trinity, the classic cool character of adventure "The Rock", the charming but also very smart and powerful 'Wonder Woman' and the comic athyrostomus "Deadpool" in an ancient treasure hunt! Despite the opposing interests and the conflicts between them, eventually either the two of them or all three of them will be forced to cooperate and the cooperation will be followed by betrayal and change of side with pot twists. A film that does not want to become as serious as the classic Indiana Jones or other films of the genre, the athyrostomy of "Deadpool" could have been excluded though, as well as the excessive humorous element in from time to time, as the adventure alone was more than enough to earn the interest of the watchers. Nice recommendation to spend some relaxed time and enjoy, but due to the athyrostomy of the never serious Reynolds is not recommended for families or young children.

Social drama film. It is the Prequel of the 101 Dalmatian dogs where it is slightly based on the first film and uses some characters but with several variations. Unlike the 2 movies with Dalmatian dogs, Cruella is not a humorous / family movie but has more social character, with a tendency towards drama. Young Estella is a poor girl with a brave and untamed character that is not given to anyone, she will hit back her bullies, but also defend others when they are attacked. This part already shows messages against bullying. This little girl though wants much more, she dreams to become a fashion designer, feels she belongs to the fashion field. The rest of her life brings huge reversals and she struggles alone to stand on her feet, she eventually gets some friends and later she manages to get closer and closer to her dream that is the fashion field. There things are even harder and when she discovers an astonishing truth, she gets blinded from anger and hatred and turns entirely to the cruel and strict Cruella de Vil we know from the next films. The whole story of Estella is a survival journey initially in a cruel world and then the fight for the dream of a little girl. Her life has its up and down and though it has mainly dramatic character and reminds somewhat the classic story of Oliver Twist, there are some bright moments where she gets closer to the conquest of her goal until she has her own House of Fashion, and also her characteristic car and her remote castle we met from classic films. Excellent direction, very well made scenery of old times, great performances from the two "opponents" Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, nice effects in the difficult scenes and in total a serious movie with a social character. But a movie that leads to the viewer to take the part of Estella, as opposed to the classic films we know, and also a movie that changes several characters of the first film resulting in plot incompatibility with the Dalmatians movies, so it is recommended not as a prequel but more as an independent movie. A journey of a poor girl for survival and dreaming! It is recommended to everyone.

Musical film. Although I do not watch musicals in general, no matter how many times I watch this movie, I never get bored! It's really one of my top favorite movies! It is a real opportunity with the change of the year those who have not seen it yet, please do a favor to yourself and watch this masterpiece! It shows really positive messages that have sadly eclipsed nowadays, it shows what really matters in life! Some of its messages show a poor child who dreams of becoming more than what it now is, a family man that struggles to offer his family a life he wants, people who have been isolated by society for their appearance, color, genetically or health issues etc., they also have a place in the world, also the nonsense inequality of social classes and the depreciation of the poor by the rich, and true love for the "other half" and also love for the family. These and many more messages are shown in a true masterpiece, a magnificent scenography with everything in perfection, beautiful colors, scenery, costumes, very well-practiced choreography and really wonderful songs with deep meaning! Even if you watch the movie for its songs, it is more than worth it! The entire soundtrack is amazing! Also in the positive choice of actors and especially talented Greek Australian Hugh Jackman our favorite "Wolverine" in a role of a family man, a great showman and a dreamer. Finally, one more positive thing is that although the film is based on a real story and real people, there are huge differences from reality in order to better give the nice positive messages, so there is a lot of fiction. Overall, it is one of the best musicals that have ever been made, and a really wonderful movie that gives beautiful and positive messages and emotions. An amazing musical you must not miss!!!

Destruction / satirical film. A special mix of genres, where an impending catastrophe of the planet occurs, but despite the fact that the scientists who discovered it tell everyone, politicians, tv shows, the Internet, etc., no one does anything despite the ability to neutralize the danger. A film originally inspired by climate change, but whose messages could be interpreted in the current epidemics and in many different ways, shows in a satirical way that humanity is worthy of its fate. Everyone cares about the individual benefit and is not interested in something important that concerns everyone. In the leading roles are various types of people in the real world, some who shout the truth and can not bear to be silent, some who are interested in having a good time, others who are interested in power and political benefits, others who are interested in how their business will grow at the expense of people, others who seem pure at first, are tempted by individual well-being and leave their ideals and a majority who do not know what to believe, the obvious or what governments, big business and those in power have to say and power in general. So a satirical film of destruction, with social messages. Big names of actors played quite well in their role, and a great production that could still be much better. Pretty good mix overall, maybe some items could be skipped, but it is recommended as a whole.

Parody movie. Friends and family gather together for Christmas dinner, but actually that would be the last dinner they will ever have. Clouds with poisonous gas is approaching the country and the government told the citizens they will suffer a lot and then they will die. Therefore, they gave the citizens a pill to kill themselves without pain. Most of them have agreed to take the pill after the dinner, at night and leave peacefully. However, the young boy is the "rebel" opinion in the film and refuses to take the pill. He doesn't want to die. He doesn't want his parents to kill him with this pill. He doesn't want to do what the government says, but freely do what he wants. He wants to live. He wants to fight. He wants a chance to survive the apocalypse. He doesn't want to give up. Great actors, decoration and direction, but the whole movie was a parody, its style had elements of comedy rather than drama, and thus it can't be seen as a serious movie. Also the entire film had extremely bad language, certainly not good to be watched by children and families. Overall, the execution was mediocre, but the idea itself could have brought it to the same league of reference films like V for Vendetta etc, in the meaning that if govs force people to do something insane, people should always seek freedom and try to think as free entities not as a herd. Too bad, the idea had so much potential, but the result was just mediocre... Worth a watch for the idea though.

Science fiction movie with artificial intelligence. Although there have been plenty of movies about artificial intelligence from time to time, this concept is somewhat different. It is essentially a human hybrid with nanotechnology, and not primarily a machine. The film begins with a promising suspense, with a near murder in the secret facilities of such a hybrid who appears to be a young girl. Therefore, both the hybrid and the risks in the facilities are evaluated. So what will be the evolution of the hybrid as its intelligence develops? What will be her wishes? What is the real destination for these hybrids? A rather interesting concept on artificial intelligence but it has a simplistic scenario and only a few twists give extra interest. It could have had more action and more plot in general, as it had big names of actors to support it, but nevertheless managed to pass some messages about what is right and what is not, matters of trust and what can be considered friendship or family, but also the feeling and need of freedom. Although not among the top ones in this genre, still worth a watch.

Science fiction movie. A quite underrated film, as it has a special concept that is somewhat reminiscent of Inception and other similar films or even much older ones like Lawnmower man (1992), but with a different idea. So it is about the development of programmable biological substances in the form of ophthalmic solution, which put the user to sleep for a few seconds and during this time he lives experiences as real through programmed dreams. These scenarios each have a specific theme, e.g. Skiing in a snowy landscape, holidays on an exotic island, etc, but they have the flexibility for the human brain to freely choose the evolution of the scenario. Such technology could have infinite possibilities beyond a simple break. The deepest desire of the programmer, however, is to be able to develop it, so as to wake up her brother who is in a coma. Everything changes when there is a lethal accident with these substances and they force her to apply this technology to prisoners to save the company, but also to try it with such a scenario of prison on herself. What is reality and what is imagination? A very original script with multiple plot twists and quite well made as a whole. It could have had more action, effects and suspense, but it has done quite a good job overall and is definitely among the recommended films in the genre.

Historical film. An interesting surprise from Ridley Scott. The film is based on real events, but there are three different perspectives of the same story, where the wife of a knight denounced rape by his once good friend when her husband was missing in a battle. This film tells us three different versions before the final duel. The first, the knight's version, reminds a classic story, with honor and feeling of justice and was my preferred one personally. The second, the version of his old friend then enemy, showed intense immorality without a trace of justice or anything positive. The third, the wife's version, showed some gender/patriarchy stereotypes, some completely false beliefs of the time regarding science, but also a woman alone who feels to be drowned by everyone, who want to speak her Truth about the her rape and all are against her. The film is placed in France in the Middle Ages and has become an excellent work by Ridley Scott in direction, clothing, scenery and generally in details such as other big historical films. Actors were all also great in their role. Unfortunately, the immorality of the second part mainly disapproved me very much, quite some elements could have been excluded. Overall, however, it became a good work and is in the recommended films of the genre.

Metaphysical horror movie. This film is not a continuation of the story of the two girls of the Paranormal Activity franchise, but of a completely independent story and a completely different style, maybe something like a reboot or a spin-off with a completely new story. The only common elements with the franchise are the moving cameras and the demonic element. An adopted lady wants to find her biological family and while she learns that her mother is not alive, she has a brother and wants to meet the rest of the family. It is an isolated community that lives without electricity and without telephones, but hides a dark and extremely dangerous secret. The film escapes the amateurism of all the other films in the franchise, it shoots outdoors, in the snow, in old houses, but also in the in a deep hole in the earth. It has some influences from REC but towards the end it also has a bit of claustrophobic style of horror movie As Above, so below (2014), which I would like to give even more horror personally, but nevertheless it is a pretty good effort overall, with mystery, suspense and horror. It is by far the best movie from the entire franchise and since it has absolutely no connection with the other movies, you can also see it as an independent omitting the rest of the franchise. It is one of the good horror movies of the year and definitely one of the recommended ones.

Fiction movie. A couple of researchers at a pharmaceutical company have designed and brought to life two hybrids of a new species that produce a protein in large quantities. However, the wife wants to try to make a new hybrid based on the human genome so that the protein is more compatible with humans and is produced in larger quantities, even though both the company she works for and her husband are opposed, she proceeds. The film goes far beyond the scientific part, but shows some bioethical messages, what is good and what is bad and of course all this is seen through the special relationship that the couple develops with the new hybrid. The film is clearly watched with interest, it has a bit of a dramatic element in it, it has some erotic element and romance, and it also has thriller elements towards the end mainly. It is worth a watch, but some things could still have been excluded and on the other hand the film could become more intense and better overall.

Documentary / thriller film. The film is based on true events that took place around 2000 in the city of Nom in Alaska. It is based on narratives and audio and audiovisual footage. Strange events happened there, among them strange suicides, but also disappearances and no one could give convincing explanations. This material shows some bizarre things that everyone can give their own interpretation. The film tries to be as close as possible to a faithful representation of some events of that period, and gives the interpretations of Dr. Tyler, but without adopting them. It is one of the many strange and vague stories, in a serious realization that is worth seeing. Since it does not use fiction as in a "normal" movie, but is more of a representation/documentary from real events, it does not have much action, nor obviously it shows aliens or anything else, but it is a worthwhile effort to highlight strange phenomena. It is certainly recommended to those who are interested in something similar or just curious.

Survival movie / drama. A post-apocalyptic film, where a sudden flash of the sun triggered the end of life on the planet. A few years later, the few survivors are trying to survive as best they can, as few animals are left, mostly some insects, and the vegetation has also been largely destroyed, many unfortunately become cannibals. A father and his son are also wanderers, but he has promised his son that they will remain "good" and will never become cannibals. A long journey of survival in a gray and desolate landscape throughout the film, where there are moral messages and ethical dilemmas about what one would do for survival and what limits one could keep. A very good and serious film, without silly elements or immoralities like others of the genre, tends to the dramatic element more and not to adventure like e.g. I am Legend. The excellent performances and the impeccable direction also give a realism. It is one of the best films in the category and definitely among the recommended ones of the genre.

Thriller / fiction film. A group of young people go on a trip to a remote wooden house in the forest to spend the weekend. Except that the place where they go unsuspectingly, hides a whole set game against them, from behind ... or rather beneath them! For the most part it could be another zombie movie, but in the end then plenty of imagination is added to the end that finalizes it completely. It has some elements of humor and is clearly not horror, but a thriller / fiction adventure, with plenty of action and suspense. The script really had it all in, especially when you see it to the end, but I do not write more so that I avoid spoilers. Quite a crazy script though, in its own style, though I personally would have preferred it to be a more serious movie and more horror and not so much for fun. It can be watched, of course, but be prepared to watch it in a similar mood. Because of the unique, crazy scenario, I put something more on the score, something between 6.5 and 7/10.

Metaphysical horror movie from Korea. Korean cinema is famous for its mystery / horror movies and this is no exception. Filmed with animated cameras in a documentary style, and with a very dark style like REC, it gives a realism to the viewer. So a group of young people, youtubers, go live broadcasting to explore the legendary, haunted psychiatric asylum in Gon-ji-am. A rather dark and scary movie, as the team goes overnight to the remote and abandoned asylum to explore it, and its age-old interior, cold rooms and dark spaces create a very scary atmosphere to the viewer. Contributing to this is the horror on the actors' faces and the use of a moving camera that makes them all more realistic. The effects and the intensity that prevails intensify the terror even more. On the downside, the film unfortunately took too long to get into its main part and when the first indications started, as they admitted, they were fake to have views on Youtube... The film could have been 30 minutes shorter and have a small introduction so that it can enter the main part immediately without becoming boring to the viewer. Unfortunately about the first half of the movie is extremely boring, it is not worth more than 5/10, while the second half and especially the last part is worth 7/10 and is quite strong. Overall it is generally recommended, but they could remove most of the introduction which was boring.

Thriller movie. A struggling family man on whom he relies in addition to his wife, also his brother who has mental problems, as well as his father, is suddenly fired. At some point while he is alone, he receives a strange anonymous phone call from someone who knows everything about him and announces that he has been selected for a game with 13 missions, if he completes them all, then he will become a millionaire. Desperate as he is he starts with the first missions, which are simple or disgusting. But as the game progresses, the missions lead to more and more serious "sins", abuses, blasphemies, humiliations and ultimately murders. As long as he resists, however, he finds that it is becoming more and more difficult to escape from this "game". Is he, after all, the "game" himself of some multimillionaires from the world elite who rule the world? Can an honest man become a monster when he is desperate? A huge ethical dilemma we have in this movie. Quite a special script and with a lot of suspense, especially at the end with some revelations and a change in dramatic style, although it does not delve into the big heads of the game, but focuses on the "game" itself. So do not expect for it to pass political and social messages, there are other films for such a style such as the "Purge". Overall it has intensity and suspense and is quite good, although it could have been better. It is nevertheless recommended as something different.

Horror / Mystery movie. On the one hand, we have a series of mysterious murders, on the other hand, we have a woman who has strange visions and sees the murders as if she was there, but without being able to move at all. Everything started after a strong hit to her head that her violent partner caused to her. What exactly "woke up" after this hit? What happened to her since then? What is this dark evil that follows her since she was a child and now is awakened again? A really uncommon scenario inspired by an extremely rare and unusual idea that is slow to reveal to viewers. The whole story and the set-up try to confuse the watchers's mind, leaving room for other, more ordinary horror scenarios. However, this idea is extremely rare and it is very difficult to suspect this even with an experienced viewer. An extreme case that can happen in real world, however, here is greatly enhanced and although the case is based on something rare but realistic, there is plenty of imagination and a combination of rareties to reach the edges. What is this pure and powerful evil, this "malignant" that follows this woman so many years? Plenty of mystery and suspense, quite good performances and excellent effects that will hold the viewer's attention throughout the movie! A highly unusual and extreme scenario combined with a peculiar direction, in a special film that gives its own unique character and style to the genre of horror films. It is more than just the top horror movie of the year. It is a category by itself, a movie that can inspire other ones in the future, a new reference movie that comes out once in 10 years! The director of SAW, The Conjuring and Insidious from past decades, brings out the Malignant, the horror movie of the decade and a new "MUST" for all fans of the genre!!! Leaves some room for a sequel.

Thriller movie from Japan. The Death Tube sequel shows a new group of people who have been abducted and are called to pass tests within a certain time, otherwise they will die. In contrast to the first, however, here the victims, try to work together so that no one dies. So there is no competition and it gets kind of boring for a while. However, the rules will change at some point and they will have to deal with each other or even the far from scary yellow bears if they can. Overall, although it focuses more on how they will escape from there and not on the game itself like the first one, and therefore differentiates and brings a new plot, nevertheless loses significantly in suspense and in many times becomes boring. The direction as well as the killings are also mediocre. And unlike the first, here no attempt is even made to delve into the characters with the exception of the protagonist. On the positive side, I liked the messages and the ending much more than the first one. Generally it is fine for one watch, if you liked the first one, it is about the same level but there are definitely better ones.

Thriller movie from Japan. A case where people are abducted in order to pass some tests, but if they do not succeed, they are killed. All this show is being shown on the internet, except that none of the viewers notified the authorities to find them. The idea has been used many times in the past and is not new, but it always remains interesting. It also had some plot twists before the end where some tried to trick others into their own survival. However, the deaths were not very convincing and the film also made many long pauses, as a result of which it began to get boring. It is still worth a watch but there are better ones with similar concept. Saw films are probably the top ones with this type of concept.

Fantasy movie. After such a long time, finally, a new epic is born! An exceptional masterpiece, with impeccable direction and cinematography, unique shots and scenery combined with imposing music and serious acting. An excellent transfer of the Dune story, with absolutely realistic effects on the big screen. But as with another epic, The Lord of the Rings, so with Dune, this movie will split into 2 or 3 parts rather than one standalone film. A unique fantasy story that was realized for the first time in such a way on the big screen! It is a new MUST but also a reference film for this genre. Everyone will now look forward to the continuation of the film that I hope will be in the same or even better style than this one. The beginning of an epic!

Thriller movie from France. A gang try to leave France in times of political crisis and rising racism. Eventually reaching near the border, they make a stop at a remote motel to spend the night. The family to which the motel belongs has an old Nazi in the lead, and the whole family has another, hidden business behind the motel. Ultimately, unsuspecting passengers should fight for their lives. The film began by showing political crisis in France, rise in racism, and later on focuses on an old-Nazi, in an attempt to pass some social messages. However, as a whole, it is a survival film with excellent acting, direction, great shots in gray and rain, but also underground and dark tunnels. It also has gore and splatter elements. Very good as a whole that gradually leads to the suspense and a very strong ending. Although there are many similar films, this was quite well-crafted and had its own character. It is definitely recommended for fans of the genre!

Fantasy / romantic / dramatic film from Thailand. An excellent sample of Asian cinema on the theme of the legend of Krasue. So a girl has the curse of Krasue, where at night the head detaches from the body and leaves to hunt. The girl once she realizes that she has this curse, she does everything she can to hide from the hunters of Krasue. But two of her childhood friends are still by her side and both do their best to help her, each in his own way. A really exceptional movie and excellent direction with great melodies, and a special script around this legend. Perfectly crafted film that has it all, imagination, emotion, romance, modesty, family, childhood friendships, suspense, monsters and a very touching and dramatic ending. In total, a masterpiece once again from Asian cinema that is definitely worth seeing!

Mystery / metaphysical horror movie. A young woman who recently lost her husband who, without any indication, suddenly committed suicide, is trying to understand why she did it. Searching for his past, he gradually discovers that there were many things he did not know, but most importantly, there was something dark that is now haunting her. Excellent direction along with good music, plenty of mystery and suspense from beginning to end and constant agony, watching the protagonist gradually unravel the mystery of the unknown past until she discovers what is this darkness that follows her. A special presentation of the idea that confuses the viewer until he understands what does not leave her. Without constant terror, it has continuous suspense and enough plot, in a good balance, so that it does not get boring. This film is a typical example of how a simplistic central idea, if presented in an elaborate way can give something very special and unique. What is after death? Watch this movie to find out. One of the top mystery movies of the year!

Metaphysical horror movie. The very experienced Jeffrey Dean Morgan here in the role of a journalist who would do anything to make stories even if they are not very real, finally finds a story that seems to be real. A true miracle of a girl who, while she was deaf, can now hear and speak and believes that the Virgin Mary is speaking to her, to whom the miracle is due. But what really happens? Is it really the Virgin Mary who speaks to her or is it something else, unholy? When the journalist finds out the truth, what will he finally choose? To save his career or to reveal the truth to the world? A very interesting film focusing on the Christian religion, the miracles, but also the enemies of Christ, who try with false miracles to gain the worship of the faithful. Very good acting by everyone, but with a good direction by Spiliotopoulos, it is watched with interest and has some pretty good effects in the end, but it could be much more intense overall. It is relatively mild, possibly due to low budget, despite that however, it shows the messages it wants to show successfully. Recommended for all fans of the genre.

Mystery / metaphysical horror movie. A fairly modern but aged woman, due to some health issues decides to separate from her daughter and grandson and stay in a nursing home. Still, strange things happen there, and among other things she loses all the freedom of her life, and while she still seems to have a clear mind, they try to convince her that she is crazy, that she has dementia, like the other ones. On the one hand she sees strange shadows at night, on the other hand she sees that gradually people in there to be dying one after another. As much as she wants to return home, her family is convinced that she is really suffering from hallucinations and she has dementia and that it is better to stay there. But what is really happening? Has she really started to lose her mind or is there something really dark in the nursing home? A question that she must answer trying to find evidence against time since soon it will be her turn too. Influenced by other films, but interesting and well-rounded, with experienced actors and very good direction, with suspense and mystery throughout and with a dark element in various timepoints. Also, its short duration does not leave room for boredom, while the ending will surprise many people. On the downside, despite the ongoing mystery, it could have been much more intense and may have been extended to have a little more action in the end. It is still worth a watch for fans of the genre.
