I enjoyed this movie from start to finish. It was tense and well directed. I felt the white claustrophobia of the bell, the knuckle desperation, the clock ticking, and the disbelief when Chris was okay. (It's still unfathomable that he comes out of this unscathed.)
Some other viewers felt this movie was long enough or developed enough. Personally I found the shorter run time to only increase the tension and really highlights how simultaneously fast and long everything takes to unfold. There could have been some more dimension built for the characters, but I don't think that's the story they wanted to tell. I think they accomplished what they set out to and did it well.

Jennifer Lawrence should have gotten a lot more credit for this role. Her accent wasn't perfect, but everything else was extremely well done. She played Dominika the way she needed to be played. Her emotions, motivations, deception, and capability kept my attention through the whole movie as she moves through this unfathomable situation.
This movie is perhaps a little long, but the slow burn element feels necessary for storytelling like this. There was a lot that had to happen for everything to unfold as believably as it did.
This underrated movie is heavyhanded when it comes to sex and violence, but it still feels as graceful as a tragic ballet.

This movie does exactly what a white knuckle thriller should! It does ignore reality at times for the sake of upping the ante, but it doesn't go too far off into cheesy unbelievable territory. Rather it sucks you in, and for an hour and 45 minutes you feel the thrill that these movies are supposed to give you.
I'm grateful to this movie for not shoehorning in the usual quips or out of place lines that don't have anything to do with the story at hand. This movie is great at immersing you, if you suspend a little disbelief. If not for the obvious/overcompensating CGI on the special effects and some other aesthetic choices that give away when this movie was made, it felt like a throwback to a popcorn movie that took the idea of entertaining its audience seriously rather than it being mindless background for phone scrolling.
Kudos to Gerard Butler for carrying the lead role in a way that made me feel invested, too. He was a strong protagonist of this entertaining film!
