Merlin
(1998)

The Best Fantasy TV Movie EVER!!
Sam Neil... What an Inspired choice for the lead role of Merlin, with him there is a presence on screen that is hard to explain, he has such a relaxed way of doing things in the movie yet at other times he has an real ora of power.

The Story is one of an extended universe on the whole Camelot/sword in the stone/Arthur story. It starts with Queen Mab (Miranda Richardson) talking with the Lady of the Lake (Also Miranda Richardson) who wants to bring all the people back to the 'Old Ways' when everyone worshiped and believed in her kind. Mab is a kind of Element/God/Witch who has many powers and has a helper named Frik (Martin Short). They plan to create a Wizard to unite the people and get them to follow her (Merlin if you hadn't guessed). It goes without saying that in the process of things Merlin turns on Mab based mainley on her allowing his 'nanny' to die. Merlin swares to battle all the Mab stands for and so starts the cycle of this movie. The movie covers Merlins love of Nimue (Isabella Rossellini) and all that tries to keep them apart. For the most part it sticks quite faithfully to the Camelot Mythology and really only takes liberties with Mabs influence on the whole proceedings and Merlins extended life (after the normal story would have finished ). The acting on the whole was very good and you only need to look at the cast list to realize this wast and all star turnout. It has to be said that while there was some very good acting there was also a few performances that didn't quite live upto the standards of the others like Jason Done who played Mordred (The Son and Arch enemy of Arthur) who just can't do sarcasm of which most of his lines are based. Also worth adding is that for a TV movie the CGI and MakeUp is VERY good, not quite ILM but for something that cost about the same as 10mins of the latest StarWars Movies I think they are excellent. My only real down side in this is that there is no uncut/extended version of this. Even on the DVD it is set out as two 1.5hr programs and this is a pain if you like an interrupted viewing experience (like me).

I rate this an overall 8.5/10

Pros: Effects, Acting, Stong and Extended Story line, Sam Neil.

Cons: Some Acting, No uncut edition, No 'Movie' Gloss Finish.

Gangs of New York
(2002)

Not Rubbish But MAJOR Room For Improvment
I went to see this movie with High Expectations, I thought I was going to see a Martin Scorsese work of Genius on a par with Casino or Goodfellas.... It Fails. This Is NOT a Rubbish Movie, There where parts of It I quite Enjoyed, but not many and certainly not enough to keep me watching for THREE HOURS. The fact this was 3hrs long was not the reason I didn't like this movie, In fact many of my favorite movies (Lord Of The Rings, Dances With Wolves, Casino) where that long, The problem was that it just didn't have the pace or enough of a story to warrent that sort of screen time. Another thing that has bugged me is how over hyped this movie was. Day-Lewis was very good as Bill The Butcher BUT by no means should he win Best Actor for this role, the way he droned on sometimes made me want to get up and leave but I put this down more to the script than him. Leo was on a par with his usual stuff (I'll leave it up to you to decide if that is good or bad) and miscast in the role, he was too... well Leo for want of a better word. Diaz was as Stunning looking as always and was one of the only things worth keeping your eyes open for, her acting was OK but not her best work. All the others worked as well as they could with the material provided. My Main Gripe with this was the way the movie was padded out with so much stuff to do with the Civil War and the being Drafted into the army.

I realise this is a very negative review so far and I admitt the movie had its good points, the fight at the beginning was well done and the first hour looked promising but after that it justed dragged and was letdown by its end. I rated this movie a 5/10, This was mainly due to the Directing and the actors doing the best with what they had. I will close by saying that you should NOT go and see this thinking you are going to see a movie like Goodfellas or Casino or any of Martin Scorsese's best work If you do you will come out thinking the same as me.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil
(1989)

10 OUT OF 10 .. A* .. TWO THUMBS UP .. GREAT MOVIE
This has to be my one of my all time favorite Comedy movies... I love this film. The movie is based around two guys one Black and Blind (Played to perfection by Richard Pryor) the other, White and Deaf (Played by the equally funny Gene Wilder). Both are accused of killing the bookie of the Blind Guy this leads to a hilarious chase across the county and them trying to uncovering the people who set them up. I could easily go on and on about this movie but in doing so would ruin it for you. This is one of the only movies that I have seen that I remember laughing untill there where tears in my eyes. This gets a 10/10 from me and I only hope you love it as much.

Series 7: The Contenders
(2001)

7 people, 1 prize.
This was a very good movie, I went into the cinema hardley knowing a thing about this and came out amazed at what I had seen... The basic plot is that you have 1 raining champ and 6 more people chosen at random to take part in a kill or be killed shown, This movie really takes the mickey out of the current trend of 'Real Life' shown like Big Brother, The contestants do not all want to be in the show, the are picked at random and have no say in the matter, If they don't play one of the others will kill them. The movie I felt was a little long for what was on offer but I think that it still delivers the goods. While watching the movie I got flash backs of things like the blair witch project in the way it was filmed and because of this it is unlikley that we will see the actors that where in this in anything else for quite a while, even though they all did very well.

Men in White
(1998)

Oh so bad!!!
This 'Movie' has to be the biggest pile of steaming C*^p I have ever

seen, What more can I say than BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD. There is NOTHING to save this 'movie' and I pray that they NEVER even talk about making a sequel. If you are thinking about watching this then you should know that the storyline is that two garbage men get dragged into saving the earth. Movies like Men in Black has been torn to shreds and put back together to make this 'Comedy' but have TOTALLY failed. Please avoid this movie, (save yourself).

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
(1983)

The way of the force.
This movie is often over looked when people talk about star wars, For me this has to be one of the best. With out this movie the is no end to the battle between good and evil(Rebbles V Empire). We see Luke now a Jedi knight face Darth Vader and the Emporer in this final battle. I'm sure every one and there dog knows the story line but to do a fast forward on it: They have to rescue Han-Solo, escape for Jabba the Hut, Fight and destroy the empire and get the girl. This is a truley Excellent movie with what I still feel is a first rate cast.
