The Yellow Sign
(2001)

The Yellow Sign is a disturbing film with a fine cast!
The Yellow Sign, another of Aaron Vanek's creepy shorts, deserves the acclaim it has won from various film festivals. Without using gratuitous nudity or gore, Vanek has crafted a film that remains disturbing long after the final credits have rolled. All of the actors are excellent, especially Dale Snowberger as the charismatic, Mephistophelean artist. Snowberger is both menacing and sexy and delivers his complex dialogue in a sonorous baritone that makes one shiver. David Reynolds, a fine and underrated actor, is truly ominous as the Watchman. The DVD also comes with several other shorter films that are weird and fascinating - well worth the investment!

Special Dead
(2006)

Being politically incorrect is SO much fun...
I would love to give this movie more stars if I could only see what was going on! Why the release print is so dark is a mystery. I hope it can be fixed because this is a minor gem of satire, the type of film that the Politically Correct of the world loathe before they've even seen it.

The actors seem to love their molto-bizarro characters. Mark Bates as a Tourette's zombiehas his share of the funny moments, spewing out filth and bloodeverywhere. And David Reynolds sympathetically plays a bald ox of a zombie who literally loses his head in one of the most bizarre and mirth-inducing sequences in the film.

Weird people made this and weird people will like it. Now if the film can only be made more visible, it might attract a wider, weirder audience!

Earl's Your Uncle
(2004)

Weird film noir wanna-be with hilarious supporting actors
I have seen this film three times and am still not sure what's going on in it. That said, the dialogue is very funny and well-delivered and the cast features some hilarious performances, especially in the smaller roles. David Reynolds (soon to be seen in "The Hills Have Eyes II") plays Tusk, the stereotypical shaved-headed bad guy with a curious mixture of bemused wonder and uncomprehending ruthlessness. The actress playing Sheena should have an entire film devoted to her character. And the Jewish Mafia guy manages to be both despicable and appealing in an odd twisted way.

How about another film reuniting these three characters?

Night of the Dead: Leben Tod
(2006)

An insane doctor invents a serum to bring dead loved ones back to life. Problem is they come back as flesh-eating ghouls.
The plot of this outrageous, tongue-in-cheek thriller is fairly predictable. Dr. Schrecklich invents a serum that brings loved ones back to life. Problem is that they come back as flesh-eating ghouls who in turn change their victims into ghouls as well. This film is very well done with excellent acting and production values. There is a tone of dark humor throughout that adds an extra frisson to the clichéd plot. The actors believe in the situations and are obviously having a lot of fun so the audience does too. Special praise must go to David Reynolds as the reprehensible, shaven-headed Gunther. He manages to be creepy, funny, and sexy all at once. See this film and enjoy shivering all over again.
