God's Not Dead
(2014)

Reviews from atheists
I thought there might be literally hundreds of reviews of this film from angry atheists, and I was right. Make no mistake, the portrayal of atheists in this film is 100% accurate.

I am on You Tube and have posted Christian videos. Some of the most hostile, antagonistic and hate-filled comments were from atheists. Atheists have bullied and badgered so many Christians, they make video after video raging at Christians.. they have B online "TV shows" that exist for the sole purpose of berating religion, more specifically Christianity. To be fair, there ARE some You Tube atheists that are kind and simply great people (ProfMTH for one... absolutely one of the nicest people you will ever encounter) but the VAST MAJORITY are angry and hate-filled. All that said, the way that the film depicted atheists was essentially spot on.

I really wish I had watched this movie in the theaters. I plan to watch their next movie at the theater and pay my hard earned cash in support.

All I can say is watch this movie for yourself. If you've ever debated with an atheist (I have) you'll see how incredibly accurate this movie really is.

A Thief in the Night
(1972)

I love this movie
I saw this movie around 1980ish when I was 18. Yeah it gave me a lot to think about, which is the whole point.

For all of the people saying that kids shouldn't watch this, I have to wonder why this is so bad and so many of the other horrible things in the media are okay? If you're not a believer I totally get it, but if you're a Christian, this is what the bible says will happen.

Sure, the acting isn't the greatest, but I love movies like this. They weren't really meant to be blockbuster hits, their intent is to get the gospel message across to people. As Christians, this is the purpose.

There are also a couple of sequels: "A Distant Thunder" is also one of my favorites.

Small Town Gay Bar
(2006)

Excellent Documentary
I've watched this film more than once. The only thing about it that is a "downer" is the discrimination and bigotry these people are forced to endure. They address a number of issues...the hostility toward homosexuals, the religious community that is against them, the fact that they have no sense of community with each other than within the walls of these bars.

Although they live under circumstances that are hostile to who they are, they seem like wonderful and delightful people. My favorite part is Jim Bishops speech in the limo. Now you have to watch it to know what I am referring to. You can find it on Netflix.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye
(2000)

This changed my view of Tammy Faye
I wish more Christians were like her. The church would be a better place.

I never knew what Jerry Falwell had done to them. I believe Tammy, and I disagree that Jim and Tammy were "cunning and manipulative". I think they genuinely thought they were doing something good with Heritage USA, but were not experienced in managing costs for the project. I also had no idea that they both helped the 700 Club to flourish and started TBN. Its an unfortunate lesson to all Christians that not everyone has the glory of God at heart when they do things, and that Christians are just as liable to stab you in the back as anyone.

I'm a Christian, and while I ultimately aspire to be like Jesus, one of my earthly models is Tammy Faye.

Valley Girl
(1983)

I think some people don't understand....
First off, I LOVE this movie. I love the relationship between the characters played by Nick Cage and Deborah Foreman. I love that they come from completely different backgrounds. But concerning some of the comments regarding the music of the era....

There were two scenes at the time: New Wave and Punk. Punk was considered FAR more radical and a lot less mainstream than New Wave (like The Plimsouls, for example). While bands like The Ramones and Sex Pistols seem pretty sedate today, they weren't so back then, which is why I think that this movie went in the direction that it did music-wise. The clothes are spot on, obviously! This is one of my favorite movies because of the love story, and I never get tired of watching it.

For the Love of Dolly
(2006)

Definitely Recommend
Overall it was a great movie, especially as it portrayed Dollys love for her fans. I could relate the most to Melisas story. I read a few other reviews online that took some of her statements out of context and called her "extreme", which I disagree with. I think Melisa was someone that needed a way to cope with unfortunate circumstances in her life, and I really believe that it helped her. I think this film focused quite a bit on this element for each person, which is a big part of why this movie is so great(besides Dolly herself).

It points out the influence of Dollys life on just 4 people, and this in itself makes a hugely positive statement about Dolly Parton. It is also food for thought in how we can impact each other.

In some ways I felt that some of the music choices (especially toward the end) cast a bit of a "weird" tone or feel to it, as if that was how we were to interpret the actions of some of the people in the segment. Not saying that this was the intent, but for me this was the outcome.

Overall I would highly recommend this film to any Dolly fan.

The Climb
(2002)

Awesome Evangelistic Movie
Contains real life scenarios that most people can relate to and is not at all preachy. They do give somewhat of a gospel message but are not at all in your face about it. Good acting, great production. Involves the lives of an unbeliever and a committed Christian forging a friendship based on a mutual goal. I really like that it portrays a relationship between the two men that is similar to relationships that I have had as a believer with unbelievers. This would be a great movie to watch with friends that you want to hear the gospel message without it seeming like you are showing them the movie just for that reason. I would highly recommend!
