Nemesis
(1992)

Move over Ah-nold, there are some NEW cyborgs in town......
Olivier Grunner stars in this film as Alex Rain; a futuristic police detective working the streets of Los Angeles. He has a very tough job to do and gets injured frequently. This is the future though and when he is injured the medical professionals of this time can just repair him with cybernetic parts. A message sent him by one of his close female police officers soon reveals a secret plot by cyborgs to seize control of the world governments and replace humans with cyborg duplicates. He makes his way to meet her and eventually clashes with Farnsworth, the cyborg leader expertly played by the very talented Tim Thomerson. He is faced with making a difficult decision to join the secret rebellion of the machines or maintain his position as a cop and still serve humans. This film climaxes with fantastic battle scenes between Alex and Farnsworth. This film has lots of action and some excellent stunts. Please add this one to your DVD collections next to all the other good "B" science fiction movies. Great film!

Heartbreakers
(2001)

ANOTHER MUST SEE MOVIE FOR ALL MEN CONTEMPLATING MARRIAGE!
Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt team up in this delightfully funny movie as a mother/daughter confidence game duo. Sigourney is perfect as the older and wiser mother who is well versed in just about every con ever played. Jennifer Love Hewitt gives a fine performance as her sometimes mean and nasty daughter who is still learning the "tricks of the trade" from mom. Together, they seek out and find wealthy older men for mom to marry and then divorce for as much money as they can get their greedy little fingers on. Gene Hackman gives a hilarious performance as the older, chain smoking wealthy widower who becomes their latest mark. For him, Sigourney becomes Olga Yevanova; a type of phony Eastern European (Russian) gold digging aristocrat who worms her way into his life and Jennifer gains admission to the house as his new (and very sexy) house maid (after the two of them "set up" the woman now holding that job by "planting" and then "accidently discovering" his deceased wife's jewelry and his cigarettes in her room). So to all men out there thinking about marriage, SIGN AN IRONCLAD PRE-NUPTUAL AGREEMENT BEFORE GETTING MARRIED; ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WEALTHY. And see this movie; especially for the great singing performance by Sigourney of the song: "Back in the USSR" by the Beatles. This one should be added to all our DVD collections as one of the funniest comedies of recent times!! See it!!

Automatic
(1995)

Oliver Grunner steals the show in "Automatic"!!
Oliver Grunner stars in this very entertaining movie about cyborgs and the effect they have on a futuristic society. John Glover stars as Goddard Marx, the president of RobGen; an artificial human production company. This IS the future and these things or androids are as common as automobiles and are used for factory labor, security, entertainment and even as sexual surrogate partners. Everything is fine at the company until a RobGen executive tries to savagely rape a female secretary named Nora Rochester (well played by Daphne Ashbrook). Oliver (he plays multiple roles very well in this movie!) interrupts the attack (he IS programmed to protect life, after all!) and in the course of the encounter accidently kills the out of control corporate man. What follows after this is a mad struggle for survival and escape as Goddard Marx calls in a special human merc unit led by a Major West (well played by Jeff Kober). There is lots of good special effects action as well as a few very interesting surprises in the plot. Grunner is always at his acting best and carries the role of J269, etc. well. Add this one to your collections of movies on the science fiction shelf! Good movie!!

Cyborg 2: Glass Shadow
(1993)

Angelina Jolie ROCKS the house in "Cyborg 2"!!
The VERY beautiful Angelina Jolie stars as an android named "Cash" in this exciting, futuristic and fast moving movie. Her "makers" or "god", of course is the famous Pinwheel Corporation; one of the largest android making concerns in the world. Things are very competitive in the future; especially in the artificial human business. Everything seems to be fine until one of Cash's female android friends reveals a sinister plan to eliminate rival corporate leadership; the plan involves injecting an undetectable explosive in her and then detonating it at the appropriate time. Terrified by this knowledge , she enlists the aid of her human martial arts trainer named "Colt". With his help, she battles past armed guards and escapes to the outside world. Jack Palance stars as "Mercy", a renegade android who assists other androids seeking freedom and appears mostly as a mouth on a television screen throughout most of the movie. Billy Drago gives his typically good performance as the tough, greedy and antagonistic bounty hunter sent after Cash and Colt. This movie, while limited in budget, has nevertheless earned a respectable place on my shelf along with the other great "B" movies. Add this one to your collection of fine science fiction films! Two thumbs up!

Last Action Hero
(1993)

Arnold STEALS the show in the "Last Action Hero!"
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars again in this excellent fantasy/action film as Jack Slater; a fictional but tough, determined and vigilant police detective. A magical movie ticket somehow sends a young boy (one of Jack Slaters' biggest fans) into this make-believe world of non-stop action where he is able to become part of the action and share in the heroics. There is a lot of typical Ah-nold humor in this film and the action is well mixed with the jokes. You just can't get tired of Ah-nold playing this type of role. This film is a great example of the combination of fantasy, action and comedy. Get yourself a copy and add it to your DVD collection! And hopefully, Ah-nold will "be back" in many more films!

Spies Like Us
(1985)

Chevy Chase STEALS the show in "Spies Like Us"!
Dan Ackroyd stars as the typical CIA think-tank intelligence analyst and Chevy Chase is our answer to the inept, stupid, lazy and bungling agent who wouldn't even pass the first interview in the REAL world of spying. These two collide (comically) with each other in a complicated scheme orchestrated by rebellious military and civillians where they are used as a "distraction" from the real mission. Ackroyd's leadership enables them to survive to complete their mission while the lascivious Chase spends most of his time thinking like the typical male. When they find a Soviet mobile missile launcher and then receive instructions from their rebellious controllers to "accidently" send the thing on it's way to a target in the US, only the quick thinking of Ackroyd can save the day. This movie has some great comic elements as well as good action scenes with decent stunts. Chevy Chase never fails to entertain with his suave, intelligent(he only acts stupid) and sexy character he made famous in other roles. Dan Ackroyd is GREAT as the straight man who keeps Chevy out of trouble. Add this one to your collection of DVD movies in the comedy section on your shelf!

Cobra
(1986)

Quick! Get me the snake bite kit! (Ha-ha).
Sy Stallone leads the cast of this film as Marion Cobretti, a VERY tough, determined, dedicated and alert SWAT-type detective. The streets have become infested with violent, malevolent, malicious and murderous gang members who have been causing a lot of serious problems for the cops. When a VERY beautiful super-model (played by the lovely Bridget Nielsen) witnesses an abduction and murder, she is placed in the protective custody of none other than the "Cobra". After that, there is almost nothing but non-stop action as the battle rages between the ruthless and determined gang and the Cobra. He shoots, punches, kicks and even tosses hand grenades at his foes, and quickly thins out their ranks. This movie has earned a respectable place on my shelf with the other fine action movies and should also be on yours! Sy is especially great with the one-liner black humor comments. Great film!!

Commando
(1985)

Ah-nold saves the day again in "Commando".
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in this action film as Colonel John Matrix, a retired special operations commando. Life has been somewhat pleasant and he enjoys his retirement as well as time spent raising his teenage daughter Jenny (well played by the lovely Alyssa Milano). When an evil banana republic dictator-el-presedente-wannabee kidnaps her to use as leverage in order to use him to help take political control of his country, he embarks on a one man mission and fights countless battles with numerous minions of the evil leader. He eventually gets to the location Jenny is being held where he faces off with both el-presedente himself and the only opposing soldier that gives him any great resistance, his old military friend named Bennet. Rae Dawn Chong gives a GREAT performance as the frantic and confused woman-in-distress airline stewardess who reluctantly helps Ah-nold. This is one fine action film and has earned a respectable place next to the other fine action movies on my shelf! Just please get Ah-nold some more driving lessons!

Eraser
(1996)

When you have to absolutely, positively have to disappear overnight...
Arnold Schwarzenegger gives a fine performance as US Marshall Jack Kruger who is an expert in the art of "erasing"; (giving a witness a new identity, eliminating all ties to their past lives and moving them secretly(?) to a new and safer(?) neighborhood. He is given the job of protecting the lovely Vanessa Williams who discovers high-level government corruption in the form of arms sales to enemies of the United States. NO ONE can be trusted in this action-packed game of deception and he must rely on his wits, physical strength and years of experience to aid him in his search for the entire gang of culprits. James Coburn gives a fine portrayal as the corrupt rich tycoon Arnold encounters along the way in this fine film that climaxes with a SPECTACULAR ending! This film has earned a space on my shelf next to the other fine action movies and should be in your collection as well! Get a copy on DVD. And wait for AH-nold to "be-back" in more films soon!

True Lies
(1994)

Is that anything like jumbo shrimp or military intelligence?
Harry Tasker (well played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) is your typically boring computer salesman (really a secret agent for a VERY secret government agency). His work takes him to many far away exotic lands and thus the time spent with wife and daughter is minimal. Helen (his wife) seems to understand and maintains their home when he is away as well as holding down a job as a secretary in a busy office. When trouble in the form of a slick, fast-talking used car salesman who makes a pass at Helen happens along, Harry uses the electronic surveillance equipment and tactical skills he has been trained with to stop this casual romeo. What follows is an action-packed thrill ride through many exciting scenes leading to a FANTASTIC finish. Jamie Lee Curtis is GREAT in the role of Harry's wife. Tom Arnold gives an above average performance as Harry's co-worker in the intrigue business. Just get yourself a copy of it on DVD and LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY AND SEEK APPROPRIATE SHELTER if Ah-nold (or any other unqualified or crazy person) is attempting to fly a Harrier jet(or any other type of aircraft) over your position! Just add this movie to your collection next to his other fine action films. And get this guy some proper flight lessons quick! Or "ground" (no pun intended) him until you do! Or I will file a formal written complaint with the FAA!

Twins
(1988)

Schwarzenegger and De Vito (both!) steal the show in "Twins".
Arnold "is back" as "Julius"; the result of a secret genetic experiment to help create a better human being. He has lived a sheltered life on a distant tropical island and has no real practical experience with real life issues; especially with dangerous situations involving criminal activity. He has matured into a kind of naive innocent not unlike anyone you may have found in the proverbial "Garden of Eden". His desire to trace his roots leads him to the big city where he soon discovers he has a "twin" brother named "Vincent" (expertly played by Danny De Vito). Vincent was raised in an orphanage and subsequently has led a life of crime; he seems to favor car theft as his main source of income. These two soon meet and the antics from then on are nothing but hilarious. Arnold attaches himself to Danny like a puppy dog and is very determined to help and protect him. Together, they seek their birth mother as well as get into all sorts of amusing and sometimes potentially dangerous situations. But don't worry fans; with Ah-nold around what could possibly go wrong? Just remember to add this VERY funny movie to your collection of comedies on DVD and remember to pay (or avoid altogether) those parking tickets! Or get a bicycle! Or a scooter! Just don't forget the pop corn!

Rambo III
(1988)

Rambo returns (again!). This time it is personal!
Sy Stallone completes the Rambo trilogy with this final effort. We find the lead character now working with Buddhist monks by day and fighting (for money) by night. Word reaches him that his mentor, Colonel Trautman is being held hostage at a prison somewhere in Afghanistan that is run by a sadistic Russian officer. He eventually accepts the mission to rescue the good Colonel only to find himself facing a much larger and better equipped Soviet army. This is no problem for our hero, and he battles it out with them (with the assistance of Afghan "freedom fighters(?). He eventually finds Crenna and continues to fight side by side with him against overwhelming odds. If you put the unrealistic plot aside, this is what it is supposed to be: a good action film. Add this one to complete the trilogy and don't forget the popcorn and snack food!

Rambo: First Blood Part II
(1985)

A GREAT action film; Stallone IS THE PERFECT RAMBO!!
Sylvester Stallone returns to the silver screen in this second chapter of the Rambo trilogy. This time, he is released from prison under the condition that he return to the Viet Nam area to take pictures of suspected camps where American POW's are being held. He has to deal with having orders not to use deadly force and then having to dis-obey those very same orders or be killed. He has a new antagonist in the form of a Washington Bureaucrat named Murdoch who leads this fact finding mission. He soon realizes that no one can be trusted and even his former mentor Colonel Troutman (well portrayed by Richard Crenna) is in no position to assist him. What follows is battle after battle with Asian as well as Russian troops leading to an exciting climax where he confronts the REAL enemy. Add this one to your shelf of DVD's in the action section. This is a well directed and excellent film!

First Blood
(1982)

A fine dramatization of the need for absolute victory in battle and what happens when a soldier who is forced to accept defeat.
Sylvester Stallone gives a brilliant performance as John Rambo; a highly skilled and decorated army veteran of the Vietnam War. Brian Dennehy plays the typical "jerk-water" town sheriff who arrests him for the misdemeanor charges of "vagrancy" and also for having a larger than average hunting knife used primarily for survival purposes. What follows is more than the entire town is prepared to handle as Rambo escapes the controlled custody of the very mean, un-wise, overweight sheriff and his group of sadistic and stupid deputies. The pursuit is then on, as the cops (with the assistance of equally stupid, ill-equipped and under-trained pseudo-macho army weekend warrior national guardsmen types pursue Rambo deep into the woods. Rambo uses all his skills to survive their advances and shows great restraint in his struggles against these "defenders of democracy". The casualty count just keep getting larger until US Army Colonel Trotter (well played by Richard Crenna), arrives on the scene in an attempt to stop him. Things just keeping getting worse for the sheriff until the exciting climax where some of the most important points of the movie are made. This is a MUST SEE movie for the important lessons it teaches about freedom. Just stay out of "small town" America. Especially if you are a military veteran of the Vietnam era or later and don't fit into the acceptable image of a "respectable" citizen.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day
(1991)

Who says you can't teach a Terminator to be good?
Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to the big screen in the role he made famous; the tough, logical thinking and dedicated Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 (Terminator). He has gone through some extensive re-programming (thanks to his capture by the older John Connor of the "future" and is now serving as little John's protector in his "past". This was a necessary move as now there is a new enemy to deal with; the Cyberdyne Systems Model T1000 (expertly played by Robert Patrick). This newer model is made of a special "liquid metal", is able to morph itself into any object of similar size and is VERY difficult to destroy or disable. Don't worry fans; Arnold is up to the task of dealing with this new enemy. He has more combat experience and better tactical skills. These two fight battle after battle throughout the film giving us some really fantastic stunts and GREAT special effects. Linda Hamilton gives an excellent performance as John's mother, Sarah Connor. Eddie Furlong also did a very good job of playing younger John Connor. This is another FANTASTIC movie that HAS to be added to our collections of action films! (and look out for Ah-nold to "be back" in T3!)

Judge Dredd
(1995)

He IS the LAW; and makes a few mistakes (in judgement!)
Sylvester Stallone returns to the silver screen in the leading role of this movie as the alert, tough, sober, vigilant and determined kind of police officer/judge combination that sends fear down the spines of all criminals. He is the ULTIMATE weapon against all forms of crime. After all, this IS set in the future and crime has gotten so out of control that justified the need to give more powers to public safety officials. Life for him is as well as could be expected and he enjoys a perfect record of service to the community. That is, until he is framed for murdering two other judges and must then stand trial for these capital offences. Being a good detective, he eventually discovers just who framed him which leads us to the exciting climax where he confronts the real culprit. This movie has some comical elements to it as well as some serious lessons about the criminal justice system. Just enjoy it for the good elements and remember to never attempt to hide in a vending droid! Especially when Dredd is on the scene! Otherwise you may be stamping out license plates for someone's flying car!

The Terminator
(1984)

Just when you thought the streets of L.A. were getting safer...
Linda Hamilton plays the part of a typical L.A. girl with a typical life. Until NOW. She soon is thrust into a mad struggle to survive due to the fact that soon she will be giving birth to a son who will save the world from a high-tech computerized defense system known as SKYNET. Arnold stars as a cybernetic terminating machine sent into the past to kill her. Michael Biehn gives a great performance as Kyle Reese; a volunteer soldier from the future who follows Arnold into earth in the year 1984 in order to protect Sarah. This is a true action classic science fiction film and should be added to all our collections of movies. Just remember to get an unlisted telephone number; especially if your name is Sarah Connor.

The 6th Day
(2000)

Just when you THOUGHT it was safe to go home after a long day of work...
Arnold ("might be back?") as a futuristic charter pilot named Adam who starts off in the film with what seems to be the trappings of a normal life: beautiful wife, daughter, exciting occupation, nice home in a quiet residential setting and good friends. He is shocked into a living nightmare when he arrives home one night only to see an exact duplicate of himself celebrating "his" birthday party! He quickly learns of a sixth day violation; he was cloned illegally by an evil corporation and should have been "terminated" earlier. He is very soon attacked by goons sent by that same company that seek to eliminate him to cover up their previous error. He battles his way past them (repeatedly)(ouch!!) all the way to the corporate headquarters to confront the top culprits in this high tech game of deception. Nothing can stop him and he even teams up with "himself" to put things back to normal. This film HAS to be added to your collection of DVD action movies as there is no way you can appreciate it fully if seen only once. Arnold Schwarzenegger is just a GREAT actor and even is able to mix the role of action hero and loving husband and father in the same movie. Just get yourself a copy and patiently wait for him to "be back" in Terminator III!

Gone in Sixty Seconds
(2000)

This movie will change how you think about auto security!!
Nicholas Cage gives a great performance as a "retired" car thief just released from prison who is forced into one last job of stealing fifty cars in one night to save his brother from a dangerous criminal who is holding him hostage. This is no problem for him, as he has the beautiful Angelina Jolie among other capable members of his "gang" of auto thieves ready to do their share of stealing. Robert Duval gives a good performnace as the experienced body (chop?) shop owner that assists Cage in the thefts. This is the MUST SEE movie for those of us who don't take auto security seriously. Just remember fans, always park in a well lit area, roll up your windows, lock your doors and beware of car thieves. Your vehicle CAN be stolen in SIXTY SECONDS OR LESS! INVEST IN A GOOD SECURITY SYSTEM AND USE IT!! This movie had a lot of good action scenes in it and deserves to be added to our collections of action films. And don't leave your keys in the ignition!

The Last Man on Earth
(1964)

Expect the unexpected and be ready for anything!
Robert Morgan is your typical family man with a beautiful wife and small child. So far his life has been for the most part pleasant and without any great stress. Things begin to change when one of his fellow colleagues (also his closest friend) shows him their local newspaper where he sees word of a deadly plague in Europe that is already claiming the lives of hundreds. He remains both sceptical and optimistic, even after people in his greater Los Angeles area begin to show symptoms of the disease. His optimism turns to alarm, especially once he begins to see bodies of once what were his neighbors taken away by the authorities for disposal. His dilemma is even made worse when his small daughter falls victim to the disease and is frustrated due to the inability to find a cure for her. He begins to believe what his close friend told him earlier: some of the "dead" are still somehow alive and have transformed some way into some sort of vampiric creatures who wander about at night and seek blood from weaker victims. Thinking he is the last man on earth not infected with the plague, he embarks on a pro-active campaign of seeking out and destroying these creatures by day and then retreating to his well boarded-up and stocked home by night. This is a true classic as Price gives a wonderful performance as the desperate, lonely and still hopeful and determined to survive and overcome what his world has become. This gem of a movie has earned a respectable place on my movie rack and should be added to yours as well!Just don't forget the pop corn and soft drinks!

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
(2001)

Angelina Jolie brings Laura Croft to life in Tomb Raider!
It amazes me to see all the negative comments made about this film. You either like action films or not. Angelina Joile works so well as the intrepid, intelligent, tough, refined and VERY HEAVILY ARMED character of Laura Croft; the daughter of an archeologist who died some years earlier. She is thrust into an intriguing chain of events that involve a mysterious artifact that has the power to alter space and time and the secret evil society known as the Illuminati that seek to "appropriate" it from her. She adapts to the role flawlessly and fights, shoots, swims, jumps and even showers (in the water closet)(wink-wink) to the delight of all those who play the Tomb Raider games and those othes who do not but may start after seeing this movie. This is another movie that HAS to be added to all our collections of action films. Angelina worked so hard making the film and she deserves kudos for her performance. So stop being jealous of her and try to be a little more like her. Playing the PC based computer game can help. It is a GREAT way to relax after a long day at the office. Just have fun with the thing and remember that no one ever erected a statue to a critic!

Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine
(1965)

If your fiance is a gold-digger, her god could be an evil mad scientist!
This has to be the MUST SEE MOVIE FOR ALL MEN CONTEMPLATING MARRIAGE. Vincent Price stars as the evil mad scientist, Dr. Goldfoot, who, along with his bungling assistant Igor, (well played by Jack Mullaney), seek to seperate wealthy men from their worldly possessions. The evil doctor uses an android making machine to create beautiful young women and then programs them individually to seduce each targeted man. His plot is foiled when secret agent Craig Gamble played by Frankie Avalon finds out Goldfoot's plans and then seeks to put an end to the mad doctor's quest for easy money. Susan Hart absolute STEALS (no pun intended) the show as android number 11. So to all men, the lessons learned from all this are 1. STAY SOBER 2. SIGN AN IRON-CLAD (no pun intended) pre-nuptual agreement BEFORE MARRIAGE and 3. BEWARE OF GREEDY GIRLS THAT ONLY WANT TO SEPERATE YOU FROM YOUR MONEY! This film has to be added to your collection of B movies! Just get the DVD and play it on one of those special occasions when you are in a mood for some campy fun!

Cherry 2000
(1987)

Tim Thomerson again steals the show in 'Cherry 2000'!!
It is the future on earth where anything is possible: even robots that look, act and perform like humans and can do almost any task. High powered businessman Sam Treadwell (David Andrews) has a problem: his android model Cherry 2000 short circuited during some heavier than expected foreplay. After a brief trip to the repair shop; seeing some newer models he doesn't like and realizing that there is no hope of fixing his current model, he embarks on a treacherous trip into 'The Zone' to find an identical model. He hires the tough, very pretty and VERY heavily armed E. Johnson (Melanie Griffith) as his guide. She along with her trusty modified Ford Mustang adapt themselves to the task. Tim Thomerson absolutely STEALS the show as the criminally insane, antagonistic, would-be crazy gang leader of the future who leads a rag-tag group of Rambo wannabees in various acts of military mayhem in his pursuit of these two protagonists. This one is not to be missed and should be added to everyone's library of classic B movies in DVD or video tape format!!!!

Trancers
(1984)

Tim Thomerson once again steals the show in "Trancers"!!
This underrated movie opens to a Los Angeles of the future with Tomerson playing the role of a bounty hunter/cop who is facing the likes of which would probably make any real officer quit and take a safer job. The time period is somewhere in the 1980's. The antagonist is an ultra futuristic criminal who has the ability to control the minds of weak people and get them to do his bidding. This is the classic B movie dramatizing the never ending battle between good and evil; good being Jack Deth (Thomerson) attempting to stop the antagonistic subtle evil criminal who is even able to travel through time. His job is made more difficult when he discovers his nemesis is a high ranking police official which gives him a powerful position from which to do his evil deeds. This one is a true work of art and Thomerson did a GREAT job in the role! See it!!!!
