Don't believe the hype
I saw this movie yesterday and having had a night to sleep on it, I think I can give my honest impression. Although visually it is stunning, I was disappointed overall, and I'll confine myself to just a few comments about why I didn't like it.

1. Incredibly cheesy, tortuous dialogue.

2. Poor acting - but then again the poor buggers didn't have much to work with.

3. Zero character development which meant you didn't care that they died.

4. Yes, the battle scenes were good but once you've seen one slo-mo shot of an arm or leg being hacked off, you've seen 'em all.

5. Very slow in parts and too long overall.

If you don't see this, don't worry, you're not missing anything.

Poor, very poor
I expected a lot more from this movie as it was billed as being directed by the man who directed Blair Witch Project (which I loved). However, this movie is a complete shambles.

The "plot" is an inane derivation of god knows how many other alien/abduction movies. The acting is without exception dire and seems to consist mostly of the actors screaming obscenities at each other. The special effects were poor. The plot holes were huge and seemingly endless. The aliens were about as scary as a bowl of ice cream.

All in all, a complete waste of time and DVD rental fee. Avoid like the plague.

Deja Vu
(2006)

Stupid movie...
..and I say that after much thought - it's not just a knee-jerk reaction.

I'm a sci-fi and action movie fan OK? And I have no problem suspending my disbelief if the story is good. But this was utter rubbish. The storyline is so weak and huge gaping plot-holes abound in this turkey. Once the "technology" was explained (not very well I might add, by Adam Goldberg's supposedly comic-relief techy) I thought, "Why not just send a message back to the cops warning them of the explosion? Or the ferry captain?" And whatever happened to acting? Denzel is sleep-walking, Val Kilmer has so few lines but he manages to invest them with all the emotion of a cabbage. And who were the others again...? Sorry, they seem to have slipped my mind.

Oh, and it didn't look THAT good.

All in all, a waste of £10.

Loved it, but feel free to disagree
I've only just recently finished watching both the mini-series and series one of BSG so I thought I'd come on here and see what other people have thought of it, and I can't believe how much it has polarised opinion! Ye gods, it seems like this is one show that people either REALLY love or REALLY hate! Well, sorry to say this but I'm firmly in the former camp. Love the new look, the characters, the incredible visual style, the grittiness (in comparison with the cheesy original), the tension - but hey, feel free to disagree if you want! I've read the negative comments and, as someone who tries to keep an open mind, I have to confess that some of them have merit. Yes, there are a number of plot holes. Yes, I can see why some people would be fed up with the cinema verite camera-work. I can't see why some people would get so worked up about the gender change to some of the characters but you're entitled to your opinion. Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on series two!
