3:10 to Yuma
(2007)

Grand re-make
I'm actually not really much of a 'western-fan'... my favorite movies within the genre are 'Young Guns I+II' - which should say it all.

Russell Crowe has always been one of my favorite actors and Christian Bale... well - he has had his ups and downs in my view (some of his best are The Prestige, Batman Begins and Equilibrium/Cubic... the worst are American Psycho and Shaft). But my view on Christian Bale has changed completely - from this movie on he is in my good book.

Rarely have I seen a better western - it has everything (though the indians only have a very small part to play in it)- the saloon, the gun fights, the good guys (with white hats) and the bad guys (with black hats) - and of course - the sheriff who actually shouldn't be a sheriff at all... But apart from all these very common things in all westerns, this movie has both feeling, morale and empathy. The story is intriguing, the plot is deep - and good, the acting is superb, the camera guys should get a raise and the instructor likewise a lot of equally good scripts (with equally good actors).

I am not going to give any spoilers - any preview you see or read will say it all, but if you're going to see only one western movie this side of the century - make sure that this is it. I have recommended it to all of my friends - and have yet to hear an 'it is OK' or a 'that is not a movie for me at all'... and we do - oftenly - not share the same taste in movies...

From Denmark - two thumbs up and 9/10 (can't be a 10 because I'm more of a horror-man than a western-man... but as good as 'Young Guns'... or maybe even better...)

Pirates of Ghost Island
(2007)

Be warned...!!
Possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen - and I have seen a lot!!

The plot is stupid, lacking intelligence and could have been written better by a three year old moron. The acting is a six letter word none of the people involved in this misery of a movie have ever heard of. And the costumes - well I have seen better at kinder garden plays. I don't mind watching low-budget, moronic movies (like 'I bought a vampire motorcycle' and 'Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD'), because I usually find them rather amusing (much to the dislike of my friends) - but this one? If I ever told anyone to watch it, I'd be certain that I would never see them again. I love movies and usually try to find the best in them - even when it seems terribly hard - but there is absolutely nothing good or even slightly positive about this movie. I would rather have open brain surgery without anesthetics for a couple of weeks than laying my eyes on this 'movie' ever again. I almost feel like I should apologize to the people behind this production because of my harsh comments... but actually they should be apologizing to me (and everybody else) who wasted precious time of their lives watching this... this... well - you know what I mean. Anyway - if you get the chance to see this movie.. go do something constructive instead - like cleaning your stairway with a toothbrush or count the hairs on your head... It'll be so much more worth while...

666: The Beast
(2007)

What a frightful waste of time...
This is probably one of the worst movies I have seen so far this year. Dull, boring, not-making-a-lot-of-sense... lots of holes in the plot and acting which I have seen better in school plays.. Actually I think I would prefer watching 'Bloodrayne' and 'Bloodrayne 2' again as opposed to this lame excuse of a movie. If you have never seen any movies in this genre (The Omen, Stigmata, Bless The Child and so on) - please - do not watch this one. It will make you run away from the genre... But OK - to be fair to this movie - I haven't seen the first one (666 The Child.. I think), but I do not feel any urge to see the first one. It probably could have been OK for a Sunday with a hangover if they had changed the script, the director and the actors...
