With a really impressive performance by Brigitte Helm and with spectacular filmmaking for the time, this movie had me in awe the whole runtime. I can't believe that this film is almost 100 years old and yet it still has significance and relevance to the present (specifically with A. I. in a certain respect as well as meal/macro class conflict). Fritz Lang truly crafted an unforgettable visual masterpiece and throughout the 3rd act, it was super tense and so impressive with how they filmed the models and the big streets with the people running on them, including throughout the film. While it is a bit too old-fashioned in some ways, from the production and story-telling standpoints alone, this for sure gets an A!
I first watched this movie over 2 years ago and didn't like it that much then, especially as the film progressed.
However, I gave it a second chance and it's actually quite good now in my opinion! I'm happy I gave it another shot since I knew I was missing something.
The cinematography feels very old-fashioned which gives it a gritty and authentic feeling and the soundtrack/score is good too! It had good, scary moments as well as tense scenes that kept you focused, even beautiful and wholesome moments! The zombies actually felt threatening in this film and looked pretty cool! While I was still bothered slightly by some of the quick camera cuts and the story getting a bit side-tracked with the main characters trying to escape the infantry-men at the base camp, I was still mostly entertained.
This is actually one of the better horror movies I've seen now!

I usually really like old-fashioned horror movies and black and white films in general. While I feel like this movie inspired a lot of films that came after it (i.e. Films about the paranormal and supernatural), it didn't really stand out that much to me until the very end. I liked the overlaps and parallels that took place towards the end without giving anything away, however throughout the film there was too much talking and not enough happening. They could've easily made it an hour and a half instead of almost 2 hours. Lastly, I liked the look of the film and how creepy they made it look for the time, that feature worked well!
Overall it's not a horror movie I'd entirely recommend as a serious movie-watcher but it wasn't all bad. It was mediocre in my opinion.
